Well, since its official I thought I would start a new thread. Begin speculation on spring/summer plans and everything else.

Ticket requests made
$339 2 ticks, each night
Pricey but WTF it's Phish
I just requested 1 for each night. My friends are on their own on this one
Everyone request multiples!!!!!
Someone here may need em.
remember that last time reunion tix were selling for $500 apiece. You'll get your money back regardless.
OMG.
Piper opener!
This may be the first time I've had an internet-induced orgasm that didn't include the phrases "schoolgirl", "MILF", or "girl-on-girl".
This is quite surreal
I may not be able to be productive today. Is it the 18th yet???
edit: oh wait, phishtickets. that's what i meant. Anytime before the 8th!!
Well I'll be damn diddly damned - so are these guys any good or what ?

The whole "he who knows the most people with credit cards" gets tickets pre-order is annoying, I think Radiohead has the best ticket distribution system.
That said, I wasn't sure how I'd feel at this moment and it seems a little surreal frankly.

That's great but if you know 20 people who are willing to put in bids for you, you're way more likely to get tickets. We've got 7 days, start bugging your relatives.
Does that mean my wife and I could both put in orders with different credit cards, but we might get denied because we are at the same address?

This is from the tickets request page:
There is a limit of one ticket request per credit card. As a security measure, Phish Tickets will accept only one unique credit card number for each ticket request. If you attempt to place additional ticket requests with the same credit card number, all requests will be rejected. In addition, we will be filtering out multiple ticket requests made by the same person at the same billing address using different credit cards. Attempts to make multiple ticket requests by the same person at the same address may result in a low priority assignment or even rejection of your requests.

Sounds like different people at the same billing address is OK.
I'm high on the very idea...
I don't care what my wife says. I'm in for tickets and the wrangling for that weekend away can wait.

it's been rainy & cloudy weather for like a week straight here in the northeast.
...but suddenly my day just got a whole lot brighter. :-)
I've never been to Hampton, and am really excited about the prospects of going! We'll sleep in the van if we have to!
So, does anybody know if this preorder going to be like a lottery or is it first-come, first-served?
wooot
It used to be a lottery. But I don;t know how that works now. I would guess its still a lottery though.
It's a lottery like the old days of M.O.
After the 8th they do a lottery of all requests.
Lottery.
I'll be here:

i plan on being there. cause i've never seen a show at hampton. BUT spending 500/ticket as was mentioned earlier on this thread though does seem a little ridiculous, since you KNOW they will be touring the rest of the spring and summer.
also, even if they're being a little sloppy, you know, that's what makes the good shows so good. otherwise what could you compare it to?

I didn't witness the first comeback fiasco, but I saw them at Walnut Creek that year, and then at Deer Creek in 04, and both were great times! Why are you conflicted?

I totally feel you on this.
There are many things that are able to get out hand for me. My excitement and my interest may not be in the same line as my wife/family's best interests.
My excitement is only tempered by how f'n much of a hassle I know itll be to find a decent room.
I do have a Hampton secret spot, but its about a 20 minute drive to the coliseum... if you dont get there early, its an hour in traffic, easily.

first off, the first reunion shows were NOT a fiasco... that NYE show at MSG was off the charts good.... the energy in that place could have powered manhattan for a week!
and as for my confliction... its a long long story... basically phish saved my life (in a round about way) and for that i love them... as such, my life became phish and that led to my addiction.... for which i am still recovering.
in any case, my desire to be there for the 1st shows back are trying so hard to override my logical thinking about my life, my family, and my finances... especially in light of our country's current economic situation.
i don't expect anyone to understand.. but RJ thanks
yeah, but that's what the rest of the year is all about. got to look at this as a vacation from life. theres a great quote from trey in the it dvd i think, paraphrasing here, about how yeah, sure maybe it's escapism, maybe for a few hours, a bunch of us get to get together, and escape the bullshit and responsibilities in our lives and just enjoy in something bigger than us as individuals, and then we have to go back to our lives. but i'm cool with that. gotta look at it that way.
i understand, jedi.
and i expect to see you there 8-)
There's definitely more bullshit at a show than in my "real life".

For the hell of it, I just googled phish 2009 and RJ's website was #3 on the list! :-D Row knows google.

for those that don't know:

The arena seats about 13,800 for festival-style concerts and 9,777 for basketball.
Rolling Stones played the Coliseum, and broadcast on the radio. The Stones also recorded a video for the song (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction during that show. The Grateful Dead played the Coliseum many times during the 1980s and 1990s. Their first of many shows was on May 4, 1979. In 1989, they billed themselves as the "Warlocks" for a 2-night run. The jam band Phish recorded their live album Hampton Comes Alive at the Coliseum in 1998, to which they referred the venue as their "Mothership".[1] On New Year's Eve 1996, the Dave Matthews Band recorded Live Trax Vol. 7 at the venue. The Coliseum is also the final venue that late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton played in the United States, before his death in September of 1986 in Ljungby, Sweden. On March 6-8 2009 Phish will return to the stage following a four year hiatus at the Coliseum.

The wife gave me permission to try and go... methinks I'll wait and see if they come a bit closer to to town. Not sure what to think though.. I am of course happy that I will possibly get the chance to see the phish. But a part of me wants to remember them as they are on my cdr's and not have my thoughts tainted. f'd up I know.
eh.. If they venture near Chicago I am in. f n a
AWAITING HIS RESPONSE:
First I have to say I am excited about this run, however they have to know all the problems it is going to cause. 13,800 is a pretty small as far as Phish is concerned. Ebay scum already have tix for sale so they say. I wonder if movie theaters are out of the question. Why not a festival setting? The whole paragraph on scalping is such a joke...

Hello. This is Greg's mother. We regret to inform you that Greg has suffered a massive heart attack due to this news. On a piece of paper was scrawled this website, between the words 'let' and 'know'. We are waiting to hear back from the doctor on his condition, but the prognosis does not look good. Knowing how much this band meant to him, we are politely requesting that anyone who might end up with an extra ticket set one aside for him, in case we are blessed with a miracle and he recovers. I know he would not accept anything less than the first night. Money is not a problem. Thank you.

So...are you gonna make it down to VA?

but yo... how can there even be tickets on ebay? THERE AREN"T TICKETS AVAILABLE YET. So like, what happens if that person didn't win any in the lottery... you're out $800 bucks.
Umm..... I live in Albany. I didn't know that you could only put in 1 request per household, so I just put in 1 ticket for the first 2 nights. Fuck my friends, i'm not waiting around to see if they pay me. They can do it themselves. But yeah... I'll pick up whoever on the way down to Virginia; just help me a bit with gas.
Anyone have a room I can crash at? I'm going to be at the first show. The universe can't stop me. Not even Toni Braxton could stop me.

Chances? Well, someone in here posted that the venue only holds 13, 000 and change. How many people are going to try? I;d say chances are slim. :|

there's an airport in Hampton, the airport code is PHF. it may be cheaper to fly into a bigger airport... i don't know much about the airports there. would prolly try to snag a ride if i flew into a different city.

it's tough. in '02 I was in college at the Math Emporium (place with all the computers) with 20-30 other kids trying to get tickets. I think about 5 of us scored (I got 1).

would you think there is a much better chance of getting tix through the presale than ticketmaster??? It seems to me that most people who would get tickets to the comeback show would be aware of the presale anyways...

I don't know for sure, but I would think it would be cheaper to fly into a bigger one. When I was down there, we actually drove from Little Rock to Memphis(1.5 to 2 hour drive) a couple of times because it was cheaper to fly Northwest direct from MEM > DC. That said, I know for a fact that Southwest does a few direct flights from Little Rock to this area every day.

Norfolk, VA "ORF". There is a Hampton Airport, but its commuter... You'll be able to catch a ride from ORF. I imagine thousands of Phans will be flying in that day, split a cab with some of them... It's about a 30min. ride.
Richmond "RIC" is another alternative. Hampton is about 1hr from RIC.

i would go with norfolk in terms of the airport. plus, there's a whole crew of folks from here, myself included, that wouldn't mind giving people rides, letting people crash, and figuring all that out.

QuoteWhether his band will command the allegiance it once did remains to be seen. Word of the reunion lit up message boards a day in advance of the announcement, and hotel rooms in Hampton, Va., were said to be selling out quickly.
"The fans are much more excited than I expected they'd be," said Ellis Godard, 37, of Moorpark, Calif., who runs the fan Web site phish.net. "The fan base — the people who used to tour with them — is older. They have kids and jobs. But all the people who said they didn't care are absolutely nuts. The fan frenzy is much bigger than I expected."

I agree. I got ticket anxiety like mad. We must do something.
hey, anyone got any extra tix? i don't have much money, but i can trade you some maxells or something....

So here's a good question: what happens if someone doesn't win the lottery, and can't get a good deal from a fellow pauger? Will the tickets sell out in minutes on ticketbastard? Will the traffic shut the site down?
Tickets will sell out in minutes.
that's frightening :|
I know. I'm quite scared.
Any which way you slice it, getting tickets will be hard. I put in an order of 2 for each night, and I have had three people who will NOT be going do the same.
I figure that I have 8 chances per night as of now. Trying to find another friend or two who are willing to enable a rabid phan...
Ticketmaster will be hard as hell to have success with. Good luck to all of the damned souls who must pursue that route...
I figure your odds are realistically about 100:1 for the lottery, and much smaller through Ticketmaster.
The lottery would be easier if everyone just ordered what they needed.
Oh well.

Wow, that's all I have to say. Unfortunately there is no way I'll be able to get to any of these shows, so they better get up on etree FAST. This is was one of the best and worst days that I've had in a long long time. Best for the obvious reasons, bet worst because as soon as I found out I knew that there was no way that I'd be able to go. But I will survive. They damn well better play SPAC or I'm gonna fuck some shit up. Thinking about it, because it's such a small venue, would they do something like if you get a ticket for one show that's all you get, nothing for the other 2 nights to try to make as many people happy as possible? Regardless, the boys better be hitting the practice space tough and living there until it's time to hit that stage.

Grinding that grain of salt right now. But how awesome would it be to see Phish at the Hollywood Bowl? I've seen a couple of symphonies there and I'll testify to the awesomeness of the place. Rich in history and legends abound. And the acoustics... :-o HELL YES!
The Mandalay Events Center is much nicer than the T&M. I'd dig seeing them in a new venue in Vegas.
Here's to hoping that grain of salt turns into a full course meal. ;)

JPJ Arena would be a great place for the Phish to play but I doubt they'd hit it so soon after Hampton.

seriously though, dont you think they'd hit are a lot more of the traditional venues before a whole slew of these obscure ones? let alone the cities? VAncouver, new orleans, omaha, missouri......just doesnt seem realistic unless there was another whole leg of the tour to follow. the entire list makes no sense to me, but whatev.
realistically, i foresee your typical summer shed tour including most of the major venues, ie: gorge, deer creek, alpine, etc.
i know normal trends dont necessarily anymore, but how many shows has phish played in APril since 1995?
the island tour and.....?? am i forgetting something?
Phish playing JPJ -- weird. Although i can't say charlottesville doesnt need a good ole fashion hetty invasion. the UVA area is nothing like it used to be (charlottesville can be pretty uptight nowadays...)

Vegas 'o4.......
Jazz Fest '96
JPJ pretty much beats anything Richmond has to offer. But it's not as if I think they'll be playing there any time soon.
I think that we may see another short run before summer but summer is when the shows will happen.
alpine here i come :-D
personally, i dont see them doing a "traditional" tour.
i think/hope it will be less stops with longer stays... ie hampton 3 nights, msg 3 nights, chicago 2 nights, etc.

AMEN to that!
been along time coming.
its better for the band and fans as long as the local can handle it.
actually it cuts down on touring which is always what phish has wanted.
the dead used to do 6 night stands.
as a result less folks felt the need to travel to consecutive venues/towns.
i know personally if i could get a six night run i would be more than satisfied.
agreed slim... i'd rather drive to chicago (8 hrs) and spend a week there seeing phish than going KS > MO > OH > WI > IN

fuck yeah I'm pumped to see Phish at Alpine again too.

I friggin hate that lawn.....
I really wanna see em at the SPAC again.....same with FLPAC, Vernon would be cool again.....Sandstone.....there's tons more cool places I'd rather they played....

I personally don't care for Alpine as a venue, either. It just happens to likely be the closest Phish will be to me. My days of the 3-5 show runs are long gone. :-(
^I'm in the same boat, kind of. Alpine is 10 hours from me and that's the closest they ever played when I was seeing shows, so I have an affinity for it (I think that word works there, haha).
Unlike you though, I will most certainly be doing multiple show runs :-D

ditto. freakin steep ass steps and hill that you can t see shit from... fuckin worse than climbin up red rocks.
not to mention the horrible cops in the lot.
It has been cleared with Stephani:
I can go to Hampton, regardless of cost, with my brother (GBL) or anyone else who can make it...
Summer tour will be 3-5 shows for me, hopefully a fest at the end since I haven't done one since BC...
I think at this point I'm willing to spend 1200-1500 bucks total for all three shows, hotel, gas and various expenses. Not that expensive when you really think about it. Plus, whoever I recruit to share the hotel room will cut down on my bottom line. Things seem like they are doable, when just yesterday the sheer magnitude of the news was hard to wrap my head around. I just hope Gavin can make one or more of these with me, as well as my old friend Tait...

I love Alpine, but I've been in the pavillion every time - it's too easy to get down there.
Alpine Valley has a lot of magic for me, and would surely be somewhere I'd go on a summer tour in 09.

I'm in far west Wisconsin, so I'm actually closer to the Twin Cities than I am to Alpine. It's too bad there isn't a good, solid outdoor venue in that area. There's always the Target Center, but .... not the best venue for a concert.
xcel center in st. paul sounds really good for an arena tbh

Yeah, I'm just not a big fan of drinking quality beers in a parking lot. Don't get me wrong, I likely always start with a Sierra or two, but then switch over to Miller Lite cause its easier on the body when you've got a long night of partying ahead of you.

as long as they aren't complete FAGS and add a show on the 5th, the way Dispatch did when they came back for the MSG shows for Mozambique or whatever. My friends scored tix to the first of the original 2 shows, only to have them add like, 3 more dates before the original "reunion" show
I can't imagine they would add another show to the run so late into the game. With the lottery over and TM sales approaching fast how could they possibly add another show? Especially if it were the 5th, that would be very difficult and mean to the fans imo.
On a side note:
I have a (half-baked, hare-brained, straight-up silly) theory- Phish can only succeed under a Democrat. Although their shows leading into '92 were great at times, I think the real classic era started at the earliest in '92 (disagree if you want, I'm no expert) but then as Clinton was on the outs Phish went into decline. With Bush as President they were pretty shitty...but now with Obama (i hope to god) they can return in all their glory and melt faces once again.
Who's with me?
:-P
interesting theory....lets see how it pans out....
you have too much thinking time!!!
I hope they do add a show or 2.
10 shows over 14 days. Just do it already! Like Phil and the ABB does every year in NY. Just make it a tradition to spend 2 weeks in hampton doing shows. DO IT!
i don't think that would be the best move.
3 days (festival) tops is all trey could probably handle at this point in time.
and that might even be too much.
^^Agreed. Hit different stops for 2-3 day runs and move on. A good amount of cities can be covered, but less time on the road from venue to venue every day. They can even take a day off between runs to rest and prepare for the next run.
yeah, yeah, 2-3 night runs in all the big cities, i know, better choice, trey gets to rest, less gas, less travel, less wear and tear, etc......i'm just being greedy cause i live 20 mins from hampton colliseum and would love to spend two weeks seeing them in my backyard AND having my own bed to go home to every night. :-)
2-3 night runs, yes.
1 day off between? No way.
Weeks off would be better.

Good point. Anything to still be able to see a couple shows and not drive every day for days on end.
the notion of the whole scene squatting in Hampton for 2 weeks is hilarious. I don't care how chill Hampton cops are, after 2 weeks they'd start locking up w00ks for jaywalking :-D

EXACTLY! All the better reason to do it. cause we're thinking no, they wouldn't do that, it would be too obvious, and here we are thinking that, and so we are willing to completely dismiss it. All the more reason I say. Ahhhh....to be a dreamer.....
that's why it'll happen tonight. :)
they moved to a larger, more central venue due to "circumstances beyond their control" (= :phish: getting back together)
half the band lives in the city, and they love this place.
here's to hoping you (and the rest of roseland) get a nice "sample" of what's to come in march.
:beers:
oh wait, does that mean the show in CT will suck tomorrow if you do?

Yes.
But, whatever...
I'm looking forward to a sick version of Sand next weekend with Ray, Russ, and Fat Tony.

I am just hoping for a good time, with good friends next weekend. I don't think that's too far out of the question. I'm trying to keep expectations low.

I've got pretty high expectations but I'm 99.8% sure they'll be met.
but I don't really care what's played, it's been so long since I've seen these guys it'll all be good..
For the most part, I've given up on "High Expectations" going into shows. I feel like I usually am just setting myself up to be disappointed. If I go in with low expectations, the chances of me being blown away are much greater. :-D

if I somehow make it to Hampton, I'll definitely have zero expectations and just let them blow me away all over again.

I went on a two month or so hiatus before seeing them in summer 03 and 04, it does make the shows that much more special.

funny you mention this, I actually decided to do the same myself.....
I currently have not listened to Phish since they announced the hampton shows, my plan was to go until about february....then prepare the greatest live phish compilation ever and listen to all the great jams that made me fall in love with phish.......I figure this will get me PUMPED for Phish by march 6th!!!
I pretty much have listened to 90% phish for the past 3-4 years of my life so this is a huuuuggeee step for me....I hope to get alot of new music listened to in the next few months!
they do say absence makes the heart grow fonder....
(I did allow myself to listen to the latest trey shows.....i couldnt resist)
well I think its official I'm not going. No tickets.
I'm not a happy camper.

No reason to lose hope bro. Keep an eye on ticketmaster for tickets popping up (I got a call from ticketmaster yesterday saying my Billing address did not match up with what Visa had on file, If I hadn't called them back and fixed it I'm pretty sure they would have canceled my ticket order. I'm sure this happened to a bunch of people, thus tickets will be popping up).
Also check stub hub in january when they announce more dates (I'm assuming january, they said they'll announce in early next year), tickets to hampton will be mad cheaper whenever that happens.

QuoteBurlington, Vermont - January 13, 2009
Fans of Burlington's most famous musical export, Phish, are already clamoring for tickets for the group's reunion tour this summer. But aside from the concert goers, other musicians are also watching the group closely.
Grace Potter beams, "Oh yeah, I'm a Phish fan, I've been to like, 45 Phish shows!"
Waitsfield rocker Potter of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals was just a newborn when Phish was playing its earliest shows in Burlington in the 1980s. That group of four friends could have hardly imagined then how their jam rock would earn them a huge cult following, or, that they'd end up inspiring future musicians, like Potter.
The singer recalls, "I used to go with my parents as a kid, and when I got old enough to go by myself, my parents still came, but I was part of what they called 'the Phish art crew.' We would distribute paint and strange things to paint on. And Phish fans would come paint and I was one of the 'comandeerers' of paint!"
She's now herself one of rock's young stars, one of several in the music industry predicting 2009 could be the year of Phish.
In March, the group is releasing DVDs of its 1996 Plattsburgh concerts, and is also reuniting that month after a four-year hiatus. The band has long earned praise from other performers for being all about the art of music.
The classical musicians at the Vermont Youth Orchestra have joined band members for educational workshops in the past. They, too, are eager to see what a Phish reunion produces.
Caroline Whiddon, executive director of the Vermont Youth Orchestra, says, "It's fun to see they want to get back together to make music. That's something our kids can really relate to, because they have so much fun making music together."
But the lesson of Phish to other Vermont bands may just be that it's possible. This small state can produce a top act.
Kevin Coffrin, a bassist for the up-and-coming Vermont-based band The Urgency says, "I think it's very inspiring that a local band in a scene like Vermont can play bars and build a fan base in the area and grow from there to become very successful and get their music out, I think it's great."
The upcoming Phish tour includes no Vermont stops, and several music promoters tell Channel 3 it very likely may stay that way, since no area venues could easily handle the crush of fans that would turn out. Still, the group's supporters from inside and outside the music industry are eager for the reunion.
Grace Potter says, "I have become friendly with some of the guys, and if I could pay them a visit it would be a great reunion, not just for them, but for me too, to be able to be a Phish fan again!"
Some tickets for Phish's summer reunion shows are available online now. Others go on sale later this month.

there's Officially too many roll call threads.
Actually, all but two of the stickied threads already existed. I was simply adding the shows to the paug calendar, which creates a thread, and merging the created thread with the pre-existing ones so that the calendar would link to the roll call.
I'm done for now.
Only the upcoming leg will be stickied until those shows have passed.
i couldnt think where to post this, and i know some folks might wanna do one of these  , but i just resolved a question in regards to the upcoming tour that has been milling around in my head, so i thought i'd share.
so, i've been trying to discard any expectations for Phish 3.0 and just enjoy things on FAce, but of course the critic in me still has certain thoughts and questions... ya know.
well, long story short, being a dead head as it were, i cant help but compare the timelines of the two bands in relation to their playing ability, etc.
so, i've been trying to place what to compare 2009 phish to in "dead" years.
as of a few minutes ago, i think i've decided it will most be comparable to ~87-90 dead, or the 'touch-head' era as it were.
-thats all, just had to share. flame if it suits you.
:-)
I go with the twenty years apart theory. I've worked that one through in my head at times as well. 64-65, 84-85 73,93 77,97 etc. That would put 89,09 together. I've even went as far as saying/thinking there is a band that started around 04-05 that the torch will pass to. I chalk it up to an overactive imagination and psychedelics.
