Just finished set I.  That was rough, really rough.  In the same set you guys got the worst Runaway Jim, and Stash of 3.0.  Half assed CDT, and a boring ass Mike's Groove.   The only redeeming factor I could walk away with is at least Trey doesn't sound like he's on heroin, again.

Now, granted it's a tour opener and homeboy has been bleeding broadway in his veins for months, personally, I expected this.  I watched a vid of CDT, new lights are dope.  '09-10 Trey tone kills me though.  Very heavy on the sustain and the whale call.  His dexterity seems slightly better; albeit, he's still masking mad errors behind a collage of effects.

Fish sounds really good.  LP SBD on my phone I can barely hear Mike.  Page was page.
we listened to the FOB recording on the way back and mike is very much heard.
the recording we heard is not posted yet buty mics on the same stand are on BT now.
this was Mike's show.  listen to a proper recording and it will be better.  Trey was nonexistent to me last night but I LOVE shows that Mike shines.  I didn't love last night but it was adequate but you NEED to hear Mike.

Had a blast!  Got to hang out with Pieguy, Birdman, Pcr3, and redrum at times at the Casino which was cool.  Hung out with bvaz for a few near his rig before the show started.  The venue was definitely not prepared for that type of crowd.  Ridiculous concession lines and tough to make to the portopotty lines.  The one cool part was that the sound was amazing throughout the venue so people were just dancing in the lines.  My highlights were Mike's, Antelope and although nothing amazing Hood.  I love Hood encores.  Got to see the 2nd set from center stage about halfway from the stage to the sbd with a friend of mine.  It was a pretty rocking 2nd set.

sorry, can you explain that statement to me?
obviously ive been completely out of any sort of phish news loop, but i thought he'd been clean since he got clean in 08 or whatever... was there some sort of relapse i missed?  :?
if im just reading your phrasing wrong i apologize.

I wonder if the new stage set up added to the issues with the 1st show rust?

Guess I'll listen and find out!

Slim, sophist is just staying consistent--no relapse news or rumors.

I thought the show was a typical tour opener warmup. Weekapaug and golden age were hot. Silent in place of Hydrogen was a huge letdown for me, though.

The new lights, what I noticed primarily was the backdrop--as someone else noted: no round screens, instead a square divided into three rectangles one above the other, sometimes looking like an animated Mondrian painting. I was thinking it might be a special deal though--I don't think all the summer sheds have room for it; this stage was tall.

The people running the venue have their head in their collective ass. So many wrong-headed setups, it boggled the mind.
Missed the boat, but snuck on after they docked again to grab my ticket from birdman. Definitely glad I didn't get laid there. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

as much as people here are complaining about staff, try walking in with taping equipment.  we had top go to a 2nd line or go home.  definitely a clueless staff.  it all worked out though.

Standard fare overall.  This being their 30th year Anniv. opener, we were hoping for some new curveball.  As pcr3 and I discussed on the jaunt cruise, the mind blowing jams of yesteryear are over, today its more about a holiday with low expectations.  NICU was a set 1 highlight.  Golden Age from set 2 was another highlight.  Not because the jam was totally mind blowing, it wasn't however it was more then 7 or 8 minutes in duration and I was hoping they would chart into the unknown.  The rest of set 2 was pretty standard, much like the whole show.  Antelope raged hard, a solid, jammed out version.  Mike sounded titty throughout.  I left right after Antelope and wasn't surprised when I heard the first few chords of Hood for the encore.  Back at the parking structure I could hear generation noob exclaim, "what a great show!" or, "that was fucking sick!"  It was a fun day with friends.

k, thx for clearing that up.
sorry for distracting from the discussion.
just found it an odd statement since personally i prefer Trey's playing from his using years when compared to his sober years, lol.
i'm not saying i want him to use, but i absolutely would love for him to "sound like he's on heroin again"...as Sophist put it,

.......AAAAAAnnyway, so glad to hear Paugers made tour opener and are reresentin! go team!! :rockout:

Great time yesterday.  Susep and I headed down to the venue to chill and wait to board the Jaunt vessel.  Heard pretty much all of soundcheck.  The Jauntee cruise was sweet.  Finally got to meet and hang with pcr3 and PG. Hadn't seen birdman since cccc and of. Purse met his brother.  Missed emay on the boat. The weather was perfect and of course the Jauntee ripped!

Regarding the show, pretty typical tour opener. Possum opener was expected but at least they got it out of the way early.  Like previously stated, they have definitely slowed down, esp the CDT. I dig Theme but didnt care for the placement.  I did enjoy the Mike's, Weekapaug and NICU.

I dug the jam out of Golden Age which led to the hopes of them taking Twist out there.  Nope.  Any momentum that was there quickly evaporated with BDTNL with Ocelot to follow.  I'm always a sucked for 2001 and Antelope so I lapped that up.

The place was muddy and getting out of there was a dumpster fire.  Oh well.

Oh yeah, I dig the new light setup.
I grew up in Bangor so to be with good people, the Jaunt and then pheesh = WIN

@susep and @mehead - really wanted to catch up with you guys but knew it would be tough with not going on the jaunt cruise.  Hopefully we'll catch up sometime soon.

sober or not the biggest problem still is his tone. it used to be the most sweet, pleasing sound ever; now it's like nails on a chalkboard and the numerous gaffs are magnified as a result

Yeah I spent a good portion of set 1 on my own which is perfectly fine.  Hard getting ahold of people with the cell service the way it was.
