I already know what show I'm picking for this round.

I'm not sure if I followed this thread correctly, but what guys are saying is that Dave Thomas sold crack in inner-city DC in the mid-80's, right?

It better open with Crowd Control!

True which is why I am thinking of cutting back on the 3.0 shows.

I'll believe it when I see it.  See ya new years  :wtu:

That one was bad... but not the worst show I've ever seen....

I'm sure Hampton 04 and that Amsterdam show from 96 will make it on the list.

The crowd: mostly North American hippies strung out on dope, with a few Dutch folks (including yours truly) pushing them aside to get to the bar for another round of beer.

Everyone knows how badly that show sucks, but the first set is actually pretty good with a nice Split.
The must have gotten pretty fucked up at setbreak 'cause that second/third set is straight bad.

So this round is pretty much reviews of 2 and 3.0 shows?

I've never really thought of what 1.0 shows are regarded as "bad"

Curious to see what shows are picked.
Raleigh '99 comes to mind.  12/16/99

Thursday, 12/16/1999
Reynolds Coliseum, Raleigh, NC
Set 1: Wilson > Chalk Dust Torture, Lawn Boy, Limb By Limb, Horn, Back on the Train, Roggae, Heavy Things, Camel Walk, Possum
Set 2: Sand, The Mango Song, Wading in the Velvet Sea[1] > Tweezer > Runaway Jim
Encore: Bittersweet Motel > Tweezer Reprise
[1] Ended with a short, spacey delay loop jam.
Notes: Before the show, Mike brought a big shaggy doll on the stage and sat it on top of his bass cabinet. Velvet Sea ended with a short, spacey delay loop jam.

Faux and Gumbo drool over this show, personally I think the tour peaked w/ 13Dec. w/ a steady descent through Hampton.

of course it's those two that drool over this show. the tweezer is awesome, but other than that, it's pretty meh-tastic.

Since we are talking about December '99, I will say again that I prefer the 17th over the 18th.

the Sand from the 16th is far better than the dud from the 13th. the whole second set on the 13th is grade A boring. not sure how the tour peaked there. 17th and 18th also have second sets that kill the 13th.

that with the above statement i may be agreeing with faux and gumbo is of course worrisome, but there we are.

i think 'worst shows' will make for particularly interesting discussion if they're pre-hiatus. as dec. '99 makes clear, opinions as to quality vary widely around here.

I really like set I from 13Dec.99 esp. the Piper.

me too. the first set i do like.
but then that's really the story with those two weeks... few shows have a great first and second set.

I agree, it was either one or the other.  2Dec.99 for ex.  weak first set but solid second set.
