The Good Rats
A true piece of LI musical history

A fun, high energy rock n roll show. Gatto is a very good guitar player.

WLIR-FM Broadcast

I was inspired to dig this one out of cassette purgatory by the rats crawling around in the beginner section of Guitar Hero II.  I know that these guys were well known on Long Island and in Rochester but I never really had a good sense of national exposure.  The band is still around and does lots of gigs in the NYC/NJ metro area. There should be several other FM broadcasts in circulation.  I would be interested in knowing if anyone has any.

The rubber rat I caught at another show around this time is still on my desk having faithfully followed me through 20+ years.

The Good Rats Lineup:

Peppi Marchello - Vocals, baseball bat player, and rubber rat tosser
Mickey Marchello - Guitar
John "The Cat" Gatto - Guitar
Joe Franco  - Drums
Lenny Kotke - Bass

Notes:

"Klash Kabob" unfortunately cuts in the middle during the tape flip. The Rats were very tight
musically and it was nearly impossible to flip the tape at a dead spot in the action.

One of my favorite radio broadcasts, this concert takes place at the Mini Cinema which was mostly
known for showing underground movies including the Rocky Horror Picture Show. This 400 seat theatre
was packed for this event which wasthe 8th Anniversary of the cinema. Dennis McNamara of WLIR
was the mc, and the Good Rats even sing Happy Birthday to Dennis as it's his birthday too.

I just found that out - checked out their web site. It's a different band now except for Pepe though.
Gatto (former lead guitar) went to my HS - I think he graduated when I was in 7th or 8th grade. They played at FHS when I was there.
I saw them a few times at MFP- I was there when they taped the live album.

Funny would be applying super glue to your nuts and putting said nuts on her face.  Talk about "seeing the light" and remaining faithful to the indigo girls manifesto.

Phil and Friends with Trey Bethel Woods '06.  SBD  I had this before, but somehow lost it?  Maybe I deleted it after listening to it.  Well, I feel like listening to it again.
