are ring tones a special type of file or can any short mp3 / aac etc file be loaded into a phone and set as a ringtone?

audacity > cut wave to mp3, extremely small bitrate....8 second length max maybe?(verizon).....attach em in an email from your desktop.....

just make shure you cut your clip so it loops seamlessly.....

I played around with it, and actually there doesn't seem to be a time limit. I let 'em go longer (up to 25 sec , I think) so I didn't have to hear the same phrase over and over again. HDN is just the opening chord, good one for an "alert", imo.

Tonight I made a Stealing Time ringtone. No more stupid built-in tones!
