Title: Glass Pony - Album 3 out now! (June 2023)
Post by: Gumbo72203 on August 30, 2017, 12:39:14 PM
Haha hey so... i have a new band.  We played our first "show" last night at an open mic.  I think you guys will dig it.  Here's the first footage, which actually isn't completely terrible.  It's all songs you know, and I don't want to spoil it, so just watch; it's only 13 mins long anyway.  We jammed together for the first time exactly 1 month ago, decided to make a band, and here we are haha.

We didn't have a name before the gig, and then after the host of the open mic was like "give it up for the Dark Ponies!" because he's called the Dark Horse in his band.... the surprise star, and because everybody in the scene here knows us all, but didn't know we really played, we were termed the Dark Ponies as the surprise highlight I guess haha.

haha I'm the lead guitarist, on the left.  I kinda thought everybody knew what I looked like.  And yeah, I know....  that was shot by our singer's mom on her phone.  I'm hoping there's a way I can edit that to flip it in Youtube or something.  Do any of you guys know how to do that?

There's other footage that's forthcoming so we'll see how those turn out.  But this was the first thing that was available, and Phish has conditioned me to expect instant replay footage after a show that I posted the first thing I could get my hands on haha.

And thanks guys!  I thought the connecting jam was pretty neat and came together nicely for what we were trying to accomplish.  I wish I had more time to fuck around with my tone though because I'm not super happy with it, really.  It sounded so bright and trebly up on stage so I went to my bridge humbucker and rolled my tone all the way back but I regret doing that now because it's missing all the high end bite.  Oh well, next time!

Should be pretty easy to flip in iMovie.

Profile video really grinds my gears. Tell mom she better not do that again. Also, she's filming you more than her own son. Somebody wants to bang the guitarist...

Good stuff tho, man. Looking forward to hearing more.

ETA: oh no she turned it to landscape mid-video?!? That's even worse than starting it in portrait to begin with. Oh well, hope you get dem digits.

She's not unattractive, and she also lives 8 houses down from me.  With her husband.  Who is way cool.  They're awesome haha.  But you have brought up an interesting point....

But quite literally she is about 1/4 mile away from me right now hahaha.

Playing for the first time in front of people takes balls IMO. I thought you guys sounded great. My only constructive criticism is that whoever is playing rhythm guitar, especially during Brown Eyed, should stop playing it like an acoustic. Sometimes less is more

In the video, which guitar?  Left or right?  Can you give me some timestamps for what you're talking about?  I'm curious.

Also, I have some new stuff I think you guys will dig......  we have our first real show coming up in a couple weeks and rehearsal last night was pretty decent.  I think you guys will like this.  Again, we only get to practice once a week for like 2.5 hours and have been together not even 2 months yet, but this isn't too shabby I don't think.

I jumped around a bit but caught some real nice lead work from you, for example coming out of Space Age prior to Weekapaug. Nice little jam out of Paug.

But listen, it's 2017, give us HD footage.

This was done via Facebook live, and the wifi connection at the venue was spotty so it degraded the quality.  Set 2 glitches at the beginning because it lost signal.  Next one will be better because we're bringing our recording rig from the rehearsal space.

Thanks for listening though man.  I'm pretty proud of this show, i think we played real well for our first actual gig and also considering that I was sporting nearly a 100 degree fever for this haha.  I was so sick last week with bronchitis.  It was awful.

Curious what you guys think of our Twist jam too.

so here's set 2 for those who are interested!!  Again, apologies for the clitches in the first song; we lost signal, so some of it is cut out.  Also hopefully next time we'll have better audio and video so it's not bootleg looking like this haha.  Still, there is A LOT that I like about this set.  I hope you guys enjoy it.

Hey guys!

So, I know this is opening up the rabbit hole of criticism but my band just released our first single.  It was recorded at our practice space which we converted into a studio for one night.  Our singer is an engineer so we set up a whole bunch of stuff and he used his home studio to run it.  I think it came out pretty good.

I would very much love it if you guys could take a listen and say what you think.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy_csFvVBHs

We also have an older jam from rehearsal we released back in January that I think is really good too.  This came out of Weekapaug Groove, and if you have a discerning ear you'll hear a melody at the very end which signals it is the completion of an earlier segment of music ;)

Hey guys!  So, we played what I feel like was our best show ever last night.  It was pretty fucking killer, and someone captured some really good video footage of a song I wrote that I think you guys will all like.

Please take some time and check this out.  Pink Floyd/post-rock inspired with a Dirt-esque pretty section in the middle.  No improv, just a big long thing XD

WOW!  So, things are getting wild.  We just played on Saturday with 2 other local Delmar bands, one of whom you NE ppl might recognize:  Raisinhead.  They've been around for a long time and feature Brian and Tom from the Ominous Seapods (They played Monopole and Good to be Alive for a Change).

There was over 170 people at this show

Anyway, we had Matt from Formula 5 sit-in on keyboards for some of our songs, one of which got captured on video.  I think this jam was pretty good, although the soundguy for some reason kind of mixed my guitar out.

Either way, this one was pretty fun!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al5pMySJV9o

We also took a fairly deep dive into "Blackberry Brandy" with Matt as well, and man, I've never seen people so amped up.  You'll see at the end....... everybody is smashed up against the front (it was PACKED) and they were SO LOUD and everybody was jumping at the end.  It was amazing.  What a feeling.

Okay so, fuck.  We aren't the Jauntee yet, but........ my band is getting good.  You guys have to listen to these please:

1/12/19 Parish Public House (SBD)

Highlights:  Bolly Golly and Blackberry Brandy with Matt Richards on keys (Formula 5).  Don't skip Hypnos and Portraits either, both original tunes.

1/18/19 Low Beat (zoom H2 recorded in .wav - pretty great sound)

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cj24yn9lc2ywrjn/AAA7qNN950XkV-21JGJ_AIPia?dl=0&fbclid=IwAR2bdjwlJxNlHQWSrH5JDBhswuPGCEoe4wXMzWVLdXRJtAkJLfUvR4RhVTE

Highlights:  Swing That Maximus, Stardust, Walk Away (!!!!!!) - these are the first 3 tracks.  Also Blackberry Brandy -> Hypnos -> Blackberry Brandy was pretty hot.  The whole show was great.

Would love to hear what you guys think, i feel like we've made some huge strides over the last couple shows.

If nothing else, please listen to the 1/18 Maximus, Stardust and Walk Away and the 1/12 Bolly Golly and Blackberry Brandy (especially this fucking Brandy!)

So, we set up our rehearsal space and Eddie (vocals) recorded it into his Midas board.  Vocals were tough because we didn't put them through a PA so we were just singing into the ether haha but they came out pretty good.

There's a dude in Albany, his name is Frankie Cavone, and he runs a thing called Mirth Films which has been filming bands and doing all sorts of media content with interviews 'n whatnot, and he came out and did the shooting.  We actually filmed an interview too which will come out sometime soon.  But he did all the editing and production stuff, we just gave him the audio file after Eddie mixed it.

Thanks man, I'm glad you like it.  I think you guys will find the whole record to your liking.  It'll be up on Spotify, bandcamp, etc etc on Saturday.  We have CD copies too if anybody wants one.  They came out really, really nice.  We got a good quality product, so it feels legit in your hand.

We'll have a multi-cam video of the show coming too....  lots of stuff in the pipeline.  Big big big.

Thanks guys!  It's a weird feeling knowing that other people like yourselves are taking time out of your day to hear something we put together.  I really hope you like it.  I think it's pretty strong.  I'm really proud of how a lot of this came out.  Making an album is hard.

So, if you listen to nothing else from us, ever.... make it be this.  I am immensely proud of this jam, and it may be my most favorite thing we've ever played.

It's from the album release show.  You're going to like it, I think.

Thanks guys, you have music tastes I greatly respect so that means a good deal to me!  I really like how we've come along, I don't think we really sound like anyone else.

We've got a lot of rawk for tonight, I hope we make a good impression XD
Title: Re: Glass Pony - now on Archive!
Post by: Gumbo72203 on April 17, 2020, 05:40:30 PM
Hey friends.  If you're looking for some tunes, Glass Pony has our first archive link available now.  A searing lysergic night at a coke-fueled Dead biker bar.  This was wild.  Drugs make music go crazy, even if you're sober as the musician haha.

I love all of these jams, and I normally hate a lot of what we play.  This is some really good stuff.  Please enjoy.

Hey friends, we're down in the hills of Westchester finishing up album 2.  This.....  could be something.  These songs are real good.

You're going to like this clip from our last big stream we did....  really nice Type 2 stuff from our song "Daydream" as we sail into Walk Away.

Thanks again for all the comments and listens.  It's much appreciated :)

Oh man.  I think I know what it feels like to be Trey when he's gassing the hose.  I'd like to call you guys to this version of "Daydream".  I told Paul, we kinda went from Cypress/2.0 space-groove to full on 12/2/95 shred.  This is incredible stuff.  I'm often super, super critical of our playing but holy fuck, this smokes.

I'd really love to hear all of your critical-listening analyses of these jams.  There's a ton of hot stuff in here, but the Daydream is especially ridiculous.

Been meaning to report:

I was in Southern Vermont recently for a family wedding (lovely part of the country) and I had the rental car radio tuned to WEXQ, Manchester VT, The Real Alternative, for the whole trip, and on our drive back to Albany International they played a promo for an upcoming show featuring none other than Glass Pony (plus others) and there was even a little snippet of music to go with the announcement. A real proud moment.

oh damn that must have been Pearlpalooza!  I think they had a clip of "Something Good" they used...  unmastered and not finished mix of course haha.

That's the best radio station here, their jam show is sick and they always play killer stuff.  Discovered a lot of good music through them.

Oh and I'd be remiss to share this with you guys.....  finally some official new music from us.

Hey friends.  Could use your help.  We're in the 2 local march madness things again and getting close to the end.  Could use your votes in both, the prizes are pretty sick and we have a solid chance of winning both this time.

Nippertown:  You have to enter an email address, so you can use as many as you have.  My personal endorsements are for Playin' With Fire, Bendt, Annie in the Water, Super 400.

NYS Music:  You can vote from any device, but this website can be fucky.  I have no personal endorsements for this tournament.  It used to show you who was behind, so that's who i'd vote for if i didn't know.

Hey everyone, we just released our new album.  I think it's quite good - we spent a shitload of money on a great studio and I think it shows.  Would love to have you all check it out.

We've got CD's, cups, and shirts if anyone cares - tough to make a dent in today's world, but at least we made the album lol.

If i had to guess, you guys will like the first track, and the 5th track.  I also make my singing debut on the 7th track.   :willynilly:

ha....  we never could really figure that one out in rehearsal.  I have another thing going, and that's on the docket for that group.  Fingers crossed lol it's always the ones i really like that never seem to work in the band, and the ones that are after-thoughts that end up working out.
