Everyone is really stoked for MLB this season, eh?
I'm back to playing MLB "Beat The Streak", the new iOS app is great and makes pickin' easy.
Jays are :-o
I have to admit it snuck up on me.
The O's 162-0 season is still intact.
Twins get swept out of Baltimore!
Drew Storen is kind of garbage-like but this slider is bananas

I have a feeling it's going to be a long, hard fought season between the Jays and O's this year. A little surprised there wasn't more scoring in this first series, but I'm sure it's coming.
O's have some big roster decisions this weekend with Gausman and Matusz scheduled to come back
80 game suspension for PEDs, nice.

I need to post this. My team won but it kills me about baseball.
Mets are down 2-1 in the 5th. 1 run is on a syndergaard HR. Pitcher hits the 7th batter and walks the 8th place hitter after a lengthy AB. Syndergaard wants to bunt him over but pitcher is nibbling. count goes 2-2 (I think) and syndergaard swings and hits a 3 run HR. Mets end up winning 4-3. why are teams so reluctant to let a pitcher bunt the runner over in the 5th inning? I'm a believer that you need to get 27 outs. take the outs the other team is giving up.
How many outs were there at the time? I'm sure they were considering the much higher likelihood that they'd get a K or harmless fly or even a DP out Syndergaard than that he'd go deep for the second time in the game.
Pitcher should definitely just throw fastballs at the top of the zone, make it tough to bunt... Even the odds of getting a successful sac bunt down aren't great.
If you look at the Win Probability Index Syndergaard's home run was the big swing that game, the odds of any player that far down in the order going deep are so crazy out of whack that you can't even account for it if you're the Dodgers.
http://www.fangraphs.com/boxscore.aspx?date=2016-05-11&team=Dodgers&dh=0
on a similar note, went to Fenway yesterday. Great day at the park
Papi put on a show - solo HR in the 4th, game tying triple (yes, triple - the CF lost the ball) with 2 outs in the 9th, and game winning double with 2 outs in the 11th.
When Ortiz got up in the 11th, there was a man on 1st. You don't want to walk him and put a guy in scoring position. During the AB, Houston's P throws a wild pitch. Man on 2nd, 2 outs, Ortiz at the plate. My friend and I looked at each other and said, OK, so now they'll just put Ortiz on. No brainer, we thought. Thankfully for the Sox, they decided to pitch to him. Game over

Too good and entertaining not to share...
I must admit, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Bautista's punk ass get CLOCKED. I feel like hes had that coming for a while.
Rangers are trash.

I don't dislike Texas (or Toronto), but I'm not a huge fan. Growing up an hour and a half from Arlington, it was hard not to root for Texas though. Everyone here is a diehard fan. I use to write to players (Pudge, Juan Gonzalez, Rusty Greer, etc), and they actually wrote me back. No doubt it was from their assistants/publicists/whatever, but it was still cool, especially to a 10 year old kid.
Desmond totally flipped his bat the half-inning before they hit Bautista for flipping his bat... last October.
Rangers are trash, Odor should get 8 games, then lose his job when Profar comes up.
I could watch Bautista get punched in the face over and over for hours.
I can't stand that guy
*-my opinion has nothing to do with the bat flip from the playoffs last year. I actually didn't think he did anything wrong. And I hate taking up for a guy like that.
I didn't see anything wrong with the bat flip either.
Regardless, Bautista is a punk.
I'm sure I'll hate Bautista when he plays for the Yankees next year, but every single baseball fan would love him if he was on their team... so if you think he's a punk or like seeing him get punched, just be OK knowing that fans of the other 29 teams want to see your favourite player get punched in the face too.
definitely want to see a Texas/Toronto playoff series.
I want to clock Cespedes half the time and he is still on my favorite team.
I wish everyone was as cool as Prince Fielder who got hit, didn't care and walked to first base.
Texas was literally willing to put the tying run on base just to get petty revenge, I think that says something about their team...

I am perfectly OK with that. That's part of being a sports fan. I couldn't care less what another team's fans may or may not think about my favorite player.
Thanks for making sure though I was aware though
eta - and I didn't mean that in a jerk way. Just kidding around...
I also think I would feel the same way about Bautista regardless of who he played for though.

Sure it is. Part of it, anyway. I seriously dislike Bautista, and I believe he deserved a punch in the face. I could say that about several other players, just like the fans of the other 29 teams you mentioned.
if you are watching and feel this dislike and hatred, you are all doing it wrong.

good call on the 8 games.
Rough week for Gibbons...
I think teams now are thinking they can get under the Jays skin if they throw the ball inside and play jerk ball... made no sense for the ump not to toss Hughes yesterday, the whole "warning" system doesn't make a lot of sense.
So Hughes throws inside at Donaldson and both teams get warnings, next pitch Stroman throws inside gets him ejected, whether it's intentional or not?
MLB saying they'll stop making teams throw pitches on an intentional walk, as early as next season.
I find that really dumb.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmW71-OK50s
Fight with Ventura and Manny last night. Sketchy pitch. Sucks a suspension is coming for Manny, interested to see if Ventura gets any sort of fine or suspension. Seemed like he was pushing the limits on the pitches up until he hit him, which looked intentional.
Both are repeat offenders and should get big suspensions. Ventura could get 20 games, Machado 10-15.
That stuff happens all the time to Buck's teams since he seems to condone it. I have a strong dislike for his "brand" of baseball.
Lol....love the haters.
I'm guessing Manny gets 3-5 games.
I'd be pretty sore too if someone nailed me with a 99 mph pitch. Manny got a good crack in at his mug before they went to the ground.
Confirmed: 4 games, $2,500. Most likely appealed and dropped to 3 games

yep, and Ventura got 8
Ventura misses 1 start. Doesn't make sense. MLB almost wants brawls and beanballs.
I agree in that it doesn't make sense about Ventura, but yes, I think MLB doesn't hate the "excitement" of the basebrawl. Shit.....unless you're a diehard like we are, that sport can be boring as hell. I would imagine, for ratings purposes, they want all the excitement they can get to draw more viewers.
Well it's all fun until a guy misses a season or has his career ended after being plunked by a 95mph fastball...
As long as it's "part of the game," those same players who are at the greatest risk aren't necessarily gonna be at the head of the line of people demanding it go away.
Never ceases to amaze me the amount of press Boston and NY teams get. Sawx/yanks aren't in first, yet they continue to get the lion's share of coverage on ESPN and MLB Network.
Cracks me up. This race is far from over, but how about some love for Baltimore and Toronto?
Only good thing about the Yankees is that hopefully Chapman will be a Cub. We need a stronger bull pen. Badly.
O's aren't going to make the playoffs so I understand why ESPN is ignoring them... ;)

Hey! I lobbied for Toronto too! :hereitisyousentimentalbastard
Hot stove is heating up. Should be an interesting week.
I can see the Dodgers getting Archer & Longoria or something crazy like that, but I don't think there will be a ton of other significant moves.
I figure the Astros will over take the Rangers in the AL West, and either Boston or Toronto will win the AL East and top wild card spot - leaving the remaining wildcard as O's or Rangers.
Chapman!! Now that we have a solid closer, lets hope the hitting can keep it up, and maybe we might idk, have a shot.
About as big as a series can get in July this weekend between the O's and Jays. Should be interesting and fun to watch.
Yup will be tuning in from Denver can't wait battle for the AL East!
Jesus.....3-2 already after 1 inning. Fun starting early!
Good series. Winning 1/3 was exactly what I expected. Saturday was ugly though.
Our bats have been so cold in July. I am praying they wake up for an August/September run.

Boy 15.5 games ahead that is a comforting feeling, Rizzo and Bryant currently dominating, and this is all with Arietta having a down year. Hopefully he can turn it around this month. If we make the playoffs we really need him to be the shut down guy he was last year.
Seems like those regular season champions rarely win the World Series - something about the pressure of a close pennant race seems to improve playoff teams.
I've got tickets to Jays/O's on 9/29, last regular season home game, I'm hoping that's the game the Jays clinch the AL East.
It's on, mattstick!

Yeah, they're off to a pretty bad start, between Estrada's shaky control and Upton's inability to catch the ball.
Estrada's back is fucked and it shows. Hoping we can score a bunch of the Red Sox middle relief.

Hard not to get choked up.
I watched highlights from that game today. I'm not a big baseball guy, but it was a really touching tribute. They said the whole game was like a memorial service. They didn't play any of the usual ads or music between innings, etc. just nothing but baseball. Yeah... real dusty in the Admirals Club today. Allergies were going nuts for sure.
Wild Card race is getting tight!
No matter what happens, honestly, it has been an amazing ride this season with the O's.
I can't even imagine where we would be without Jimenez and Kim. Kim barely made the team at the beginning of the year(Hell, he was boo'd on opening day because he refused to take a AAA demotion) and Ubaldo was almost traded/cut multiple times.
Don't get me wrong, if we miss the playoffs, I am going to be beyond bummed/borderline pissed, but it's nice to play meaningful, pacing back and forth, jumping up and down and screaming(literally, last night), bury my face in disgust, games in late September.
O's-Yanks and Jays-Sawx to finish the season with the three teams not nicknamed the "Evil Empire" controlling their own destiny. Love it.
Are the sawx still pushing for home field? I honestly don't know.

Seriously though....this season has been so much fun and I'll be really happy about it at some point regardless of what happens tonight.
I think the WC series should be a best of 3 with a double header on the first day.
It will be fun to watch tonight's game without any allegiance to one team.
The stress begins Friday, at least the Cubs won't have to face the other guys best pitcher till maybe game 3.

in some cases, that could make games 1 and 2 must wins as you'd be facing the other teams ace in a pivotal game 3 of a 5 game series.
however, the Cubs are just stacked in every aspect this year, including a deep rotation so it won't matter.
as a mets fan, it will be stressful, but you really can't ask for much more than a 1 game elimination game with bumgarner vs. syndergaard.

Not sure about the double header but it should definitely be best of 3. They start immediately by playing Monday and Tuesday, travel day if necessary on Wednesday and wrap it up Thursday.
One game to decide it after 162 games is a joke.
I agree on the best of 3 series. the 1 game concept has always troubled me because one team could have won 5 games or so more than the other and it still comes down to 1 game.
The one great thing about this year is both WC meetings come down to teams with equal records. In a way, it is like a true play in game for the 4th best record in each league.

I'll probably be at a bar though.
And absolutely agreed about best of three. Insofar as the new WC format is worse for the top WC team than the old format was, to punish them makes no sense to me.
Double Headers are awesome...
Another idea I have is that they have a "best of 3" but one of the games is pre-determined by head-to-head matchup.
So today the Jays would play the O's in the afternoon, and when they win the first game, they advance. If by some miracle the O's could sweep a double header they would advance.
Ooooo man tight one !

I've always been a Cubs fan first and foremost, but growing up so close to Dallas, I always loved the Rangers. I used to go to games all the time, and you used to could write the players, and the club would send you an autographed picture. I had SO many of those things.

Kudos to the Blue Jays Organization for the way they have handled this "situation". Frankly, I'm shocked there have been so many resources dedicated to finding this guy who threw the beer.
Very classy statement of apology as well.
Definitely stings....why they put Ubaldo in that situation to throw batting practice is beyond me. You've got the best closer in baseball on the bench. He's warmed up twice at that point. He's shown throughout the season that he is capable of going at least 2 innings. You don't put a guy who is ill prepared for that, in a hostile environment no less, and expect him to win. We'll never know why he made that move.
IMO, when the decision was made to have Tillman start, Bundy or Ubaldo should Not have been included on the roster. I would've much rather seen Worley, the guy who has carried this bullpen in the long distance spot all season.
Weird twist is that the beer tosser might be a sports writer...

Holy shit. Still feel like it isn't real that they won, a thing that felt, guess we'll just watch other teams win. But they really did it.
i blame phish. they must have left some of their magic up at wrigley last summer.

Yeah, Fish used the opposing teams urinal to put a fix on em this Summer, or so he said.
amazing ending - that team really was the best all year, and deserved it. way to go, Chicago!
I'm so happy.
Been waiting for this since I was a little kid.
Decked out in all my cubs gear at work today.
Crazy game! I was armchairing the hell out of Maddon there several times. Happy for all of Cubs Nation today.
So the Red Sox get Sale and add another crazy lefty to their rotation...
1. Fuck the Red Sox
2. Not sure why any organization rich in prospects would let Dombrowski just trade them away after seeing the position the Tiggers are in these days...

Because a good portion of their starting line-up are super young as it is. Betts, Bradley, Bogarts, etc.

Sad day for the Jays today, such a clutch player.

If you look close you can see a guy miss the home run because he's chatting up a server behind home plate.
EE was awesome, but I'd rather find the next EE than have another $20mil player on the roster in 2020, so it's unfortunate.
Will not miss facing that guy in the AL East. Good Riddance! :beers:
