I know, but for "me" I'm going to give preference to an actual album over a compilation of performances.
Hey man, it's my feeling on it.
I could have easily listed Phish – NYE '95 on my list and voted it as far through as I wanted but that takes away "my" feelings on an album tourney.
I'm not saying it didn;t belong here.  just this deep in, my vote would go more towards my feeling of an album.
You don't need to agree with me.  I disagree with most of the results of this tourney as well.

I think I know where bvaz is coming from, studio vs. live although the Dead did overdibs for '72(i.e Merl).  perhaps we could have a live album madness next time(ALO!)?

good idea

I'd go as far as to say that Euro72 is a Greatest Hits album culled from that particular tour...  And we know what they say about GH Albums:

Oh! That! No, no, no, you're not ready to step into The Court of the Crimson King. At this stage in your training an album like that could turn you into an evil scientist.

They can't be greatest hits if they were not released previously.

Previously unreleased material is presented on GHs all the time...  Often, its a gimmick in order to get the masses to buy some rehashed music...     :-P

But really, are we looking at this in respect to the Scene at the time of release?  Indeed Euro72 is a GH, now that entire Tour has been released...

Or are we looking to the overall historical significance?  Really, can we beat a collaboration b/w ABB and DnD?   :-P

ETA, you know me, so you know who I'm voting for on this one...

They learned many of those tunes for that tour (BEW, He's Gone, Mr Charlie, Tenn Jed, Ramblin Rose, Jack straw). Others, that they did before, were never previously recorded (It hurts me too, IKYR)
At the time it was released, 9 tracks were new, 6 were previously recorded (counting China Cat, although the arrangement was quite different), and 2 were jams.
Doesn't qualify as a GH album

regardless, I'm sticking with Layla

I voted for Layla too but the contention that E72 is a GH record is offensive.

Yeah, for it to even be considered a GD GH it would have to have both Truckin' and Tough of Grey.

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

LOL!  OK, maybe GH is too extreme...  How about "Best of"?   :-P

well, I find Rift beating Nevermind (by a considerable margin mind you) to be ridiculously offensive, but I have very low expectations from this board in musical discussion.

come over to the dark side and hate.  then everything will be offensive and life just flows.

obviously not but will do so tonight.
I knew my view on "album" would not be popular with everyone.  but then again, when is view everyone fully agreed with on here.  I don't do it to be difficult.  I just am a unique person.  what can I say?

PIE-GUY

The thing about Europe '72 is that that went to Europe with their huge multi-track recording gear specifically because they wanted their next album to be recorded live. In other words, they went into the tour with the goal of creating Europe 72, the album. It is unlike other live albums in that regard. It is not just a compilation of songs recorded on a tour. It's a tour designed to create an album of songs. Therefore, I can't agree with your assessment that it is not an album. More-so than most live albums, Europe 72 is and album.
