I was able to get telephone support from apple even though I don't have the apple care. Anyway, there is no other way to get my tunes back other than deleting and re - adding.
he recommended a few things
1-sync from playlists like RJ does
2-if you manually manage music on your device (like I was doing), do it hard wired. There are apparently reports of wi-fi synching screwing things up, which is what happened to me
3-3rd party back up software (which I have been meaning to buy but haven't yet). This guy has used i-mazing and thought it was very good

W/r/t playlists:

I put entire albums, lots of them, into a single playlist and that's all I put on my phone. It works well when it works.
Wifi sync has never been a good option for me as I'm a laptop user so I'd have to keep my laptop open.

No mention of the new iPhone? We're slipping.

Looks like a nice phone, frankly I think Live Photos is stupid, I'm wondering how much Force Touch will impact my work flow.

I'm looking to upgrade my work phone in January, will probably get a Space Grey 6S.

Very happy with my 6+ so not upgrading yet, but iOS 9 is awesome. The new Siri functionality is great, and there's a ton of streamlining throughout the OS. Searchable Settings is worth the upgrade alone!

Oh, and multitasking on my iPad Air is friggin cool as hell.  Now that several apps updated for it already, I can see how useful it's going to be. Sucks that you need the Air 2 for the real multitasking but this will do for now.

Edit: the new iCloud pricing is amazing too.  Just decided to upgrade to the full terabyte and store my 500+ gigs of photos in the cloud.

I'm on the cusp of jumping into paying for iCloud as well.
Haven't upgraded my iPad air but I am liking iOS9 on my 5s and 6.
