I hope the big announcement is that Phish will never play again.
I'm very very dissapointed in their "comeback" if that's the announcement.

Hopefully it's a Live Phish announcement about the New Years 96 run.

I'm just saying that I would prefer that to an announcement that was "Phish will play ___________"
are we talking "big" or "monumental" or "so damn big it will change your summers and falls and sometimes springs and might require you to quit your job so you can go to Europe to hear some live music"?
I'd settle for an announcement on the '96 New Year's Run.
i have a feeling they'll be gettin' jiggy wit it, DVD-style...

Yes!!!!! A '96 holiday tour box set. T'would be nice.
Don't be suprised if the whole deal is over the o :phish: ial release of the life size disco cardboard cut-outs
It's the Europe 1992 + 1996-1998 box sets extravaganza. Women, children and Dutch Phish heads first!
Sorry to burst your bubbles, folks.
Word is that the announcement is that Page is stepping down as "Chairman of the Board"
In order to fill the office, runoff election between Ben Folds, John Medeski and that guy from Coldplay will be held early in the new year.
I'm keeping my mouth shut.......
ok.
I'm not that concerned about the announcement. I'm betting it is a Dry Goods/LP release type thing.
cypress dvd.
They just released Brooklyn this year, I doubt it'll be another DVD (I hope I'm wrong)
Seriously, I have heard a thing or two...
Dry Goods is preparing to apologize for their misguided attempt to create November 31 out of thin air...

I'm w/matt here, nothing major, more drygoods stuff. Some photos would be nice, but Bring on Hampton Comes Alive part Deux, 1997. A cypress DVD would totally honk.

Where did the emphasis on "Big" derive from?
If it is a DVD do you think they have ample time to deliver before Xmas or even NYears?

that will make:
The Summer of George
The Winter of Marmar
and
The Fall of Michael Richards
lmfao :)
+K for the laff.
I'd be happy with a livephish.com release. A new dvd would be sweet, but, in all honesty, I listen to music a lot more often than I watch it on tv.

"The rumor" over at Phishposters is that Phish will reunite @ Bonnaroo '07.

Quote from: jedifunk on December 14, 2006, 03:04:05 PM

It's a helluva lot easier just to show up and play Bonnaroo than it is to get the Phish festival team back together. I'm not saying I like or endorse this rumor, but that angle I can see...
bonnaroo does seem like the ideal place to reunite, but jedi has a point, reuniting there would seriously FLOOD the place with phans (nothing wrong with that), but it would probably also overshadow the other performers.
with regards to a reunion idea, i love the optimism and i can only hope for the best. if/when they get back together, it probably will be something big like bonnaroo, or possibly another NYE show like 12/31/02. another option (and by far my favorite) would be for it to be unannounced. thoughts anyone?
Hampton, Shoreline or Deer Creek would all be better places to reunite than Bonnaroo, imo.
I don't really care that tickets would be tough - that never stopped me before.
None of this better happen before 2010 though, or I'll be pissed.
Bonnaroo Superjam: Featuring Trey, Mike Jon, Page. You heard it first here!!!!

I would honestly PREFER a NYE96 livephish.com release to a Bonnaroo/Phish annoucement.
Yeah, Bonnaroo would be a tall order for myself. I think I would wait for them to return to someplace like Deer Creek, etc...to see them. After Coventry, I just don't think I can do the massive festi anymore...
Ok...I'll share a few things......
1) That "joke" blog from Tom.......Fishman sold his house in VT....moved, and now he's back in VT.................kinda strange........
2) If it were going to be a festi release, it is going to be either Clifford or Cypress......DVD's
3) Too much talk from everyone *except Page*....and there-in lies the weakest link........but he;s always been the quiet one.........
Just my thoughts from things I've noticed/witnessed lately.......esp. the Fishman thing coupled with the Marshall blog......
i love how this band sparks a fire under all our asses, and lights up our imagination...i'm bracing for impact tomorrow. i know what i wish it was....
Page may not be public but he's not altogether quiet.
Side note about fish returning to VT... Trey mentions in the KFOG interview that the Barn is not in use for music but rather for an artist in residence program... Trey's new studio is in nyc.
Listening to 11/14/95 today on my bike ride I thought to myself "please god don't let phish come back... unless they can play with the energy, precision and emotion that they played with on 11/14/95"
I definitely feel that way.
Anything less than the best would be pointless.
I won't see phish if they come back and are a "nostalgic novelty".
^^
imo they wouldn't want to come back that way
lol...isn't that a reason Trey gave for them stopping?
Dammit Art. I had my heart set on NYE '96, but since you mentioned Clifford Ball, I just don't know what to hope for anymore? :beers:
I'd rather see NYE96 - one set of the Ball is already on DVD and you can't get better recordings than the ones that circulate (thanks to Marmar)...

1995 was 11 years ago, and Phish had everything to prove back then. That's all a thing of the past I'm afraid - once you've made it can you really ever bring it like you did when you were on the way up?

I would think that after august 2004, phish would definitely feel like they have something to prove.
Namely that they ARENT a nostalgic novelty.
And what I mean is that it doesn't have to sound like 1995...it just has to have the care and energy displayed in that music.
The FUN The WOW The ZING!
Anything less than that and it's not even worthwhile (imo) for them to plan any type of shows.

- do i remember a joke blog? i knew fish was selling the VT house, didnt know that he's back in VT... and what difference does that make?
- i'd shit myself if it were cypress DVDs.... really and truly shit myself.
- and what does page not talking mean?
Page hasn't spoken a word since phish broke up.

so what difference does that make?

I'm sure Sofi's happy that she doesn't have to put up with his lip any longer :samurai:
page didn't speak a word before they broke up either... i don't get it...
and Cypress DVDs would force me to replace the pair of pants i'm wearing right now as well as every pair of pants i put on until the DVDs have arrived and are watched... a brazillion times...
Well......simply means he is the only one who hasn't said anything about getting back with the rest of them...........

Personally.....
I think it's going to be a release.......or some announcement of philanthropy.....
Now I think I'm crossing my fingers for NYE 96.
I have a friend who has discussed Phish and its possible futures with Page.

Well, running IIS isnt going to help them with security. But thats another long boring thread that probably only about 2.5 people here are interested in.
The point is, is a new SBD release even that exciting? Enough to go through the trouble of making shit up to get a jump on it and be the first to post the URL to phantasytour? I mean, I realize its all we get, but at what point does it become just another release? Its not like we havent all heard this show 100 times from a decent FOB tape.
Well, people are prone to get carried away with this sort of thing and some people are hyped to be the ones to pass on the link because they want to be 'THAT GUY WHO FIGURED IT OUT FIRST'.
I think, if you look back to the beginning of this thread, you'll find that here, at least, the community is a little less excitable.
Will a sbd release of that show be cool and welcome? yup. Will I shit a brick and click right over to dl it? nope.

Understandable to be excited about it after its confirmed, especially in your circumstance.
Im talking about the week long rumor mill and people actually looking for the link long before theyre ready to take it public.
If

Understandably so.

That's just a rumour...
To hell with all this Trey stuff. That 12-29-97 link was such a tease. Speculations and incidents involving Trey's drug use are not exactly "new" news. As trivial as it may seem, 12-29-97 on Livephish is new news. I hope that maybe it comes to pass, I was excited about it for a little while.
id love that show in SBD. id download it instantly. But i still dont know what is up with this announcement rumor. Was the "announcement" the message from Trey about yesterday? Or was their a rumor started before Friday?

Its possible that Inc. saw the negative feedback Trey was receiving early on and said Fuck It.

Thank you. I wasn't going to check in until I got back from vacation, but wanted to see what all the hubbub was about (I would still settle for a NYE '96 release). And I couldn't decipher a goddamn thing.
I'll stow some money away for these releases, and chalk the rest of this business into the obvious category.
all I know is that THE best sounding FOB of any show I have ever heard is on it's way to Marmar right now, and it's 12/29/97, Boris' FOB B&K's from my seat....sounds amazing and I don't think a soundboard would be able to touch it, but that's my opinion...there are some people that prefer boards over pristine audiences, I'm just not one of them...wait till these new Boris tapes hit the street, people are going to freak....I think my buddy might have sent the whole MSG run, in which case we're stoked....
wow!
i love the U89's for 12-29.
and those are some of the best AUD's i have heard.

QuoteI think my buddy might have sent the whole MSG run, in which case we're stoked....
I certainly wouldn't complain about a crispy FOB for 12/30 either
So do we think the livephish release is gonna be all 3 MSG97 shows, or just 12/29/97?
The 12/30/97 Schoeps AUD is pretty good but theres no AUD that will compare to an official, mastered, release.
what about the leaked 11-28-97 sbd? perhaps thats part of it too...
maybe its just me, but a "Big Announcement in the Phish Community" should be about more than releasing the boards on a show or two. A tour, hell ya, thats big, but with the vast amount of stuff they have vs. what they've released, even the biscuits put them to shame
well my friend has them, I'm just not sure what he sent to Marmar. he asked me which ten he should send first, and I told him 12/29 or anything from MSG '97, but we won't knwo if he took my advice until Mar gets them this week. I am meeting my friend in NYC on Wednesday, so we'll seee what else he has....

Quality, not quantity.
Also, nobody "official" came out and said it's a big announcement.

The directors of the firm hired to continue the big announcement after the other
people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked.
The big announcement has been completed in an entirely different style at great
expense and at the last minute.

Ya I heard this too.
Its been announced! Video too!
http://www.livephish.com/show.asp?show=396
nice! video too!!!
only DL though?...
no dvdbrurner here, that sux. :-P
wow, certainly was a "big" announcement, that's cool I guess I was hoping for the whole run though.
Video too? I haven't been tempted before, but then they go and offer the whole show (minus GTBT, bummer).
New DL manager for firefox taboot.
The new download manager is lookin' pretty good. It's about time they upgraded.
What I'll do personally is run a slideshow during the missing video... I see that this show hadn't circulated in video so I can't patch anything. This is gonna be cool. I'll grab these within a few days. mp4 also, does anyone have stats on those? resolution? Did they make it 640x480?
Oh and I just saw that the other video comes in the package, so that's awesome. Just the encore video is cut! Not bad.
J
The videos have fades at the start and end of each so there is no seamless playback...
Resolution is still 320x240.
Well, that's shit for resolution. I'll just have to sync the faded video to the flac audio. Oh well. Should be OK, just like switching camera views or whatever.
I wonder if there'd be any complaints if I did this, and distributed it (only to people who bought both the video and audio). Technically, everyone who owns the audio and video could do the work themselves, so I don't see why not. It's just that I can't really verify who has it.

I'm not sure of the legality, but it's a convincing argument that you should be able to distribute it to people who bought both the video and audio. I still don't think Phish would be cool with it. You would have to prove that people bought it before distributing it. I think it's a great idea, and I'm all for it. Just don't know what Phish would say.
Here's what Shapiro said about this show:
The band hit the stage on the 29th, with NICU > Golgi Apparatus > Crossroads. This was one of only 9 Phish performances of Crossroads, Robert Johnson's devilish tale of the making of a guitar hero. A hot Cars Trucks Buses and soaring Fluffhead lead to a set-closing Antelope that belongs with the likes of 4/5/98 Cavern, 11/17/97 Ghost and 7/29/97 Gumbo for extended funk within a Phish composition. A dark and poignant Down With Disease > David Bowie opened set two before the band paid tribute to the Blues Brothers (and Otis Redding who penned the classic) with a double Possum/I Can't Turn You Loose sandwich preceding a deep, telepathic Tube and a smoking You Enjoy Myself to close the set. The Good Times Bad Times encore delved back into funk territory and unfortunately can't be included with the video for the show. Like Landover and the other two shows from the holiday '97 tour, this show transcends all worldly expectations and each deserves a chapter of its own.
