Title: macOS Sierra
Post by: VDB on October 05, 2016, 12:46:23 PM
So I guess this is out now (http://www.apple.com/macos/sierra/).

Anyone actually excited? I rarely use Siri on my phone, so I can't see myself suddenly talking to my computer all the time. Things like auto unlock (if you have the watch) and Apple Pay for websites seem like niche, ho-hum features. Handoff has been nice, so I can see universal clipboard being a useful extension of that.

Otherwise, let's see ... uh, app tabs? OK. Something to do with Photos? It's a mess anyway. Something about Apple Music in iTunes? Meaning, just a better way for them to push that paid service?

I'm still using Yosemite on my primary Mac and have El Capitan on another one; by and large I find no difference between the two except El Cap actually *took away* features in some places (e.g. Disk Utility).

But hey, I've resisted just about every Mac OS update to one extent or another since Lion, so maybe I'm just a cranky old change-averse cynic.

I'm not terribly impressed with Sierra.  It's fast and all, but I've had some stray processes running which have absolutely KILLED my battery life.  I've been working with Apple actually to identify them since the beta started, and they've yet to fix them... hoping that something is done soon as I otherwise have to do some hacks to finally have more than 2 hours of battery life again!  For the record, I used to get upwards of 4-5 hours on El Capitan (which was easily the fastest and best battery life I've ever had on my Mac).

I'm holding off.  new features don't seem to impact me.

Quite a lot of talking to the phones at mopper's. Oh, wait. It's actually swearing most of the time: "Fucking battery is dead again", "Fuck this shit", and "Come back, Steve, and make Apple great again".

I'm thinking about it here at work but I need to upgrade my VMWare first...

Installed last night, asked Siri what the weather was like today.  Probably the last time I'll use that feature.
