come on, you have to have a LTP for "jam".   :-P

only caught the second set on the stream, highlight was simple.

Cought most the first and second on the stream. seemed pretty solid. Kinda wish i decided to go. Seems like it was a fun show to see. Except Joy killed the second set, and bailed to go on a short bike ride to the store when i heard zero. Show of life encore, i like the song don't really mind missing it through the stream or even if i was there.

I disagree that Joy killed the second set.  Everything after Weekapaug was a "bonus" imo.  Maybe you didn't like Joy and Zero, however, it doesn't negate everything that came before it.

Average 3.0.

Which means, it was great and fun to be at but doesn't bear thorough scrutiny or repeated listens.

Good point, i thought it was gonna end after weekapaug. and it didn't really kill the set, i love zero, thought the beginning sounded botched, i like joy. just knew what was to come so thats why i went to the store. either way, can't wait to give Simple another listen to on my way to boston tomorrow.

Nice to see Torn And Frayed in a set again. Thought it might find its way into the rotation, supplant Loving Cup as they both have a somewhat similar groove. (I prefer T&F)

any reports on turnout for the first night? it will be interesting to see if they sell day passes by Sunday

So the last time a set opened up with a 'jam' was back in '97 right? So fakkin pumped to hear this! Damn, my grown-up responsibilities for making me have to go to bed and miss the show.

I'd dial back your excitement on the "Jam". It was really just some weirdness with evil laughing. I don't think its even worth noting on the setlist.

super 3.0 balled...

bleh....

Moma, Sand and Simple.....

If the Ball were the only 3 shows I'd seen all year I'd be happy.....BUT.....with this many repeats, and how much of a snoozer this set is, I'd be pissed knowing that roughly $75 of my $200+ paid for a night like this...

It did sound like they were having a blast on stage, and some moments were very nice and tight......but there was nothing new here.....nothin to see, keep it movin....

if I were tracking a show, I'd probably note it either as unusual intro and obscure tuning and banter or whatever.

if you hadn't heard it and you saw that on the setlist and then you listened to it, wouldn't you find it misleading or at least be disappointed?

think about the soundcheck.  they opened with jam>  the soundcheck gave hope.  you see this on a setlist and you'd have high expectations.

Got into the venue a little late to meet up with anyone before Set I, so just jammed in the back drinking great beer. Not a horrible way to spend my first set at a fest. Set I was great for me, I got my first Peaches, AND Life On Mars.
Set II, I met up and raged it a little with AACB, WTU, and 'Lope. Crosseyed was fun albeit heavily played now. The >Chalkdust sounded great to me at the time! sand was very nice, Simple had some very cool stuff happening. Weekapaug could have raged, but then didn't.

The kid in front of us was pretty hilarious. He knew maybe one song they played, but was trying his best to have fun. He had this crazy schizoid dance he kept firing up in between asking us "what song is this"? And "is it one of theirs"? I had to laugh when Trey was looping into Silent In The Morning, this dude turns to his friend and says "sick jam"!

All in all, awesome day 1. I'll try to upload pictures to my Facebook when I can.

As far as I can remember the YEM on 10-10-99 The Knick Set II was Ambient Jam > YEM
Good stuff.
I was fading in + out all night on the live stream but I 100% remember that Simple...

That;s what it kind of sounds like: Cliffs Notes version of the Summer 11 Tour.

Kind of hard to avoid repeats when you play 12 songs per set.

Local TV reporter* at the festival says 30k in attendance. If that's true, it can't be much ahead of Festival 8. If it's ahead at all.

Her name was Greenberg, as luck would have it. She didn't get her song, though. Oh well.

Had a good time listening to the bunny and LST'ing but I was baked out of my gourd and I don't really remember anything except that trey was doing something really cool and then chalkdust happened. I need to listen again to see what's really up with this one.

The only thing I caught on the stream last night was Bug. Sounded like too much of that off-key soloing that Trey likes to do these days. I listen to the pre-CEP jam this morning and enjoyed it for what it was, which if nothing else was a nice change of pace. This is the kind of jam they could easily drop into after the typical post-shred ambient breakdown we hear so often. If they did, people would be loving it.

Well, at least they tried to pen Set II in an interesting way.

Perhaps they should play behind a curtain and call it tech rehearsal.

simple is the one cool jam in here. but otherwise there's some good playing in this show, even if it's not one for the ages.

wolfman's is especially hot. peaches and life on mars are both nicely played. the segue into chalk dust is smooth and for real.

I really enjoyed this show albeit suffering from the same set flow problems as most 3.0

Peaches, Torn and Frayed & my first Life on Mars in the same set was a real treat.

Highlights were the Wolfman's, High energy C&P (w/ a nice segue into CDT) a real ambient Simple, and an extra rocking bug imo

Cliff Note'd:

Moma, Gin, Quinn, Jam> C&P, Sand, Mike's> Simple

Moma was nice and relaxed, it's always a good sign when Fish doesn't start singing until after the two minute mark.

I was expecting a 14 min Gin but instead got a standard 3.0 11:30 version with 3:30 of crowd noise and some tepid ferris wheel banter, lamerz. . .    :x

Quinn, I dunno mang kind of "pitchy" runs by Trey here, it was just aight for me "dawg".  And by "aight" I mean fairly "craptacular".

Jam, they're laughing with us, not at us, right?

C&P sheesh the song just keeps getting more and more standard.  To think at one time it was one of my fave covers and now it's almost a guaranteed meh.  I guess the last couple minutes were OK, kind of sounded like everyone but Leo gave up on the jam though.

Sand, they recapture the relaxed/effortless vibe of the Moma, really liked the flowing quality of this jam and enjoyed it.

Mike's> Simple, the Simple breaks down in to real nice ambient noodle jam just after the six and a half minute mark, Trey let's Mike drive for a minute and Leo comes in with the alien synth sounds.  Some borderline whale call from Trey but it works well in this context.  It's funny the 3rd Stone teases kind of reminded me of Roses when I first heard them.  In any event, satisfying jam here, definitely the highlight of what I heard.

On to 7/2. . .

Enough can't be said about this Simple > Bug. This is what I want from them nightly.

Highlights were the Wolfman's, High energy C&P (w/ a nice segue into CDT) a real ambient Simple, and an extra rocking bug imo
I remember the look on both you and Lope's face was just  and knowing my face was the same. Just relistened this, and it just confirmed it is one of my favorite segues of 3.0 for sure. Totally nice.

On a separate issue, this set is great. That Jam>C&P was money (and the jam was hot too in parts).
