Utley clearly made a play on Tejeda's body - he wasn't even close to the bag. To say it was a "late" slide is an understatement.
He should have been called out.

It won't change anything but he should be suspended.

Utley should have been automatically out and it should have been a double play.
Odor was off the bag too.

Replay requires more accountability, not just a shoulder shrug leaving the teams/players/fans/media to interpret which rule they're upholding.

Garbage move.
I wish Game 3 was tonight with Harvey on the mound.
The remainder of this series is gonna get ugly.
Mets are totally fired up.

Don't know how many Cubs fans are here, but tying the series with Arrieta going on Monday in Wrigley. Going to be a great game.

Takeout slides are never an issue as long as someone doesn't get hurt. And that's not exclusively within the runner's control. Frankly I'm kind of surprised they're allowed at all.
Is this still Wombat?

Fuck yeah!
The events in our lives happen in a sequence in time, but in their significance to ourselves they find their own order; the continuous thread of revelation.

Utley was suspended, Torre said it should have been called a DP.
Utley appealed, MLB wanted and expedited appeal, but Utley's representatives and MLPA "need time" for preparations, which means he can play.
So the suspension is meaningless

Definitely shitty that he gets to play tonight.
Hopefully the Mets hurt LA with 2 wins.
We all know Harvey is a hothead, be he just needs to pitch strong tonight and the team will follow.

Maybe Harvey, Wright or Familia bump into Chase at a bar or something after the season is over.
It's gonna hurt him a lot more taking those hits with rings on...;)

Hey, do you guys remember when Matt Holiday was suspended after "tackling" Marco Scutaro in the 2012 NLCS? Nah, neither do I.

(full clip here)

The Giant players were understandably just as furious as the Mets.

well boys, we fucked up by not being there.

that's going to be Utley's major defense.
The difference is, Tejeda was taken off the field in a stretcher, Scutaro finished the game.

good article from the SF chronicle here

unfortunately, it takes MLB years and several injuries before making rule changes - I still have distinct memories of Pete Rose taking out Ray Fosse (and dislocating  his shoulder) in the (meaningless) 1970 All Star game years before baseball change the rules to protect catchers.

(I must admit, at the time I thought it was a great play.)

Regardless, I'm sure that the umps will be strict about calls at 2nd base tonight, especially when Utley is on the receiving end.
If the score gets lopsided either way, watch out.

of course, the best retribution is the Mets winning this thing

Umps make a correct call on a run scoring play in the 7th. Toronto fans throw beer cans on the field. First time watching baseball?

You stay classy, Toronto!

As the announcers stated: Embarrassing

ETA: player just ejected from Blue Jays dugout! LOL

Just came here to say the same thing.

Stay classy Toronto.
