Funny you should phrase it that way...
Here's the description of yesterday's track:
QuoteNew Speedway Boogie
Fillmore East, NY, NY- 9/20/70
This is one of the acoustic/electric hybrid versions of this Workingman’s Dead classic. Although not residing in the Grateful Dead’s master tape collection, this was drawn from the tapes recorded by the Fillmore East crew.
I have that show.
epic acoustic set with Grisman guesting on FOTD
iirc, when the tapes hit circ, they were badly damaged.
seems like another (good) copy exists.
a future release, one can only hope
edit to add - this isn't the 1st time a separate tape recorded by the FE crew surfaced. Much of 2/11/70 was thought to have been missing.
I'm still waiting for a hidden copy of ABB 6/26/71

no idea what the date is, sounds like a '73 or 74 version leaning more towards 73.
QuoteIowa State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, IA- 5/13/73
This long, spacey Playing In The Band is one of the finest versions from a year that was filled with great Playings. This show in Des Moines was the first of three consecutive weekends of giant shows by the Grateful Dead, with May 20 seeing the band play at UCSB in Santa Barbara, and of course the famous 5/26/73 to wrap up May's performances at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

I'm stumped on today's Shakedown Street... it's obviously Vince-era and the tempo and playing feels like 91/92...

Does anyone think there will be a "download all" link at the end??
Doubtful.
That's too bad.. there are a few days i won't be able to get them
Oh well, i'll probably be able to find someone who can send them my way
I like how they are keeping the "Past Days" links though. I don't think they had that last year because I remember being pissed at myself when I would miss a day here or there (until someone posted the compilation somewhere at the end of the month).

I didn't even realize they had that this year.

If anyone wants to enter an official guess today, it's...
12/9/81.
Today's sounds like '74 to me, or even late '73.
kinda weak that they ended this with another Lazy > Supplication :|
the beginning of my dislike of Bobby is clearly Lazy> Supplication

Man, I love November!
That's a rippin' good Sugaree.
I am getting a kick out of people identifying the song in the comments, and the reaction it provokes.
Not the biggest High Time fan, ready for tomorrow's already (but I guess I will hang out with this High Time show today until then :music:).

How often does one get to say Toodleoo in the course of a day? Have to take the chance when you get it.
Matt - 5/17/77. But I definitely like the Bertha and Big River from that 5/26/77 show. That Jack-A-Roe is good too. Or perhaps I should just say "Roe".

I too am with Barns and RJ. I wonder if your lack of enthusiasm towards the song suggests a deeper retardation than that which is necessary for the shortening of "Half Step" to "Toodleoo". :hereitisyousentimentalbastard Check out the great band harmonization versions of '76. My favorite comes deep in the second set of Boston. Seek out Chapell's matrix. (I know I fluff this show too much).

didn't love the version they put up today, but if I was there I probably would have wet my pants (I did when I finally saw it in 91)

same here, even though I suck at picking out dead dates. This Playin is awesome.
And the lack of a second drummer, and donnas voice isn't a screechy siren yet so I would guess a 72/73.
but who cares Im really liking it.
Still making my way through all this material in runs and cycles, but after hearing about 11 things so far, the Bertha from 8/10/82 is outrageous.
The TMNS from Boston is also really good, but I've always like that version.
I always liked the Corrina from the Other Ones official release, but was quite bored with this one, until I heard Bruce Hornsby push through, and always enjoy that.
Prefer the So Many Roads from the box set of the same name rather than this one from 1994, but I understand the vocal aspect of the performance.
I just downloaded all 30 days. I peaked at the list, I haven't heard but 4-5 of these. Really made me appreciate the sheer depth in catalog this band has, as I plan to run through all 30 picks today. Man, I fucking love the Grateful Dead.

I agree. I never actually cared for the song until I was at that show. I remember almost heading off to take a piss but I decided to wait to setbreak.
It's too bad So Many Roads never got moved into that second set post-drums ballad slot.
Space > So Many Roads > Throwin/NFA
Space > The Other One > So Many Roads > Sugar Mags
etc..
Lots of nice combos
I will always love the version from the 'So Many Roads' box set. Soldier Field '95, no?
Love it... probably bc it was the first version I heard, and one of the first GD ballads I fell in love with and really got me emotionally.

It is the one from Solider Field, though thoroughly edited for commercial consumption (they cut out some of the repeats and aborted attempts in the lyrical delivery).

Edits are pretty spot on for me. I hadn't seen that video before (thanks!), but had heard the entire performance a couple of times.
Obviously, editing/reduction with the GD is frowned upon, I'm with you that it is weak/bullshit, but Jerry is pretty ill in that video, and who needs to be reminded of that?
Vocally 10/1/94 is superior imo.
Nothing in the 10/1/94 version touches the solo Jerry takes beginning at 1:45 and ending 2:40 at Soldier. To be honest, seeing the video it is stunning he even has the wherewithal to pull that off.
Did they make the edits to fit the disc perhaps?

I've been dl'ing them but haven't listened to any yet. I'm 3/4 of the way through my re-listen of :phish: Summer Tour. I figure I'll binge on these Thanksgiving weekend since I get the whole thing off for once.
Nice. Looking forward to grabbing this when I can get the whole thing at once. They are always great.
I swear they sneak "Blow Away" in there every year.
2 songs from 1994 this year, a gorgeous Lazy River Road from 7/31/94 yesterday and a smokin' Dupree's from the fall tour earlier in the month.
