Curious to hear 1st-hand experiences.

I'm thinking of jumping on Amazon's $19.99 deal. I don't want to leave Verizon because (1) it works where I work, and (2) I have a corporate discount that makes VZW cheaper(!) than the alternatives. I had thought about Sprint, since they can roam on VZW's CDMA . . . but I don't think they have any phones worth paying *more* for.

I know, I know, next-gen iPhone and next-gen Droid are both on the way. Sprint's 4G is on the way. But I don't really need bleeding-edge tech for a phone. And $19.99 is a powerful incentive...

I'm in somewhat the same situation as you with verizon, and my New-ever-two just kicked in.  the HTC incredible is my #1 choice at the moment.  I'm biding my time while I deal with the idea of an extra $30/month out the door...

In reality:  do the math of how much your phone will cost over the full 2-year contract.  The upfront "price" of the phone is small compared to the ~$2K overall.

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

I have a robot vacuum, does that count?

I'd say the Roomba totally counts.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

I have an HTC Hero. I pretty much love everything about it, except for the battery life.
I'd rather dwell in some dark holler where the sun refuses to shine, where the wild birds of heaven can't hear me when I whine.

appears the new droid OS will fully support flash, kinda cool

http://mashable.com/2010/04/27/android-flash/
QuoteIn an interview with The New York Times, Google's Andy Rubin revealed that the upcoming version of the Android mobile operating system will fully support Flash technology. Code named Froyo, Adobe showed us Android 2.2 with Flash 10.1 on a Nexus One last month.

According to Rubin, Google's (Google) definition of openness "means not being militant about the things consumers are actually enjoying." This is pointed commentary about Apple's HTML5-or-bust attitude toward supporting Flash — or even allowing developers to use Flash when making applications –on Apple mobile devices. Google — at least based on our perception of the company's public face — seems more focused on the interoperability, compatibility and diversity of user experience.

Rubin also commented on Google's commitment to keeping Android (Android) open — open for developers, open for porn, open for API access, simply and completely open.

And as far as "stolen" phones are concerned, Rubin said Google would have been flattered by the attention.

All in all, Rubin's statement came across as a thinly — and we mean thinly — veiled "screw you" to Apple. As the platform continues to grow, both in end-user adoption and in developer interest, who can blame him? We can't wait to see what happens when an Android tablet is released to challenge the iPad.

I use records for that and don't have to justify it to my friends.

yup.  I love it.  The "app store" doesn't have the same volume as apple yet, but they're catching up rapidly.  They're gaining around 5k apps a month.  Still though, it's tough to beat the iphone.  My GF has an iphone 3G and I def. like it a bit more right now.  But for Verizon, I love the Droid.

I hope the next droid doesn't have the physical keyboard.  I never use it.  I know some people love it, but for me, I'd rather have a slimmer/lighter phone.

The HTC Incredible is the "next Droid" from what I can tell.

If you're an Android guy, that's def the way to go.

So I can look forward to making George Lucas ever so slightly more insanely wealthy.  :-D

The incredible looks nice. I think I've decided to save the $200(est) and get the Moto-Droid, though.

I got to play with a Droid several months ago and was quite impressed with it, but the touchscreen isn't even close to the iPhone's level of responsiveness.  Also, I was told by its owner that the battery is weak sauce, but thankfully you can swap in a new one without any hassle.

the new HTC Incredible does look pretty sweet, but may also suffer from similar screen complaints as the Nexus One (as it is the same exact LCD), which has been accused of being overly saturated and also not having touch sensitivity that rivals the iPhone.  still, it is a solid contender of a phone apparently so if you're with VZW, go for it as it's unlikely the new iPhone is going to be hitting Big Red any time soon...
