Miles Electric Band
Saturday, October 14, 2017  8pm

The Miles Electric Band brings together contemporaries of Davis's with a whole new generation of musicians to perform music from the ground-breaking 1969-75 era, when he released the albums Bitches Brew, On The Corner and Jack Johnson. Led by Grammy Award-winning drummer, former bandmate, and nephew of Miles Davis, Vincent Wilburn, Jr., principal band members include two-time Grammy nominee Robert Irving on piano, guitarist David Gilmore, acclaimed percussionist Munyungo Jackson, saxophonist Antoine Roney (Lenny Kravitz, Elvin Jones), Prince bassist Dywane "MonoNeon" Thomas Jr., programmer/re-mixer DJ Logic, Toronto tabla master Ravi Naimpally, and, sitting in for Miles on trumpet, is Koerner Hall favourite Etienne Charles.

That should be incredible.

HAve a few things on deck.  King Gizzard on Sunday, Alt J on Tuesday, War On Drugs Wednesday and later in the month Gillian Welch/Dave Rawlings.  After that, seeing Hudson which I think is like Medeski, Jack DeJohnette, maybe Scofield?  I dunno, it's supposed to be good.  Also pumped for McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring in December.

anthrax

What a show and such a cool venue. They just seem to get better every time I see them and Russo really is a goddamned machine up there. John Mayer came out towards end of first set and played most of the second set too. He pretty much stayed out of the way cause he knows Tom can run circles around him and he seemed to struggle with the tempo a bit at times after playing these songs at 1/8th the speed with the old guys, but overall he was fine. I was 4 rows back and I'm pretty sure I could smell the puss dripping off him tho.

Can't wait to catch them again at the Fillmore Thanksgiving weekend.
