new forum look. I like it but...  It'd sure be cool if you could ease the witdth restraint on the avatar since the section is taking the full width of the screen anyway, maybe you already have... I haven't even looked.

yeah, i dont know about the new layout.  kinda prefer the old way.  just me though.

Im just messin around.  Im trying to make it so that its a per-user decision but Im not yet having any luck. Itll go back to the default if I dont succeed.

yeah, the avatar section of the profile says that images of dimensions 250 x 250 are valid for use as avatars
but the column that displays the images in the threads only displays images of dimensions 230 x 250...

I also would like to see a less liberal avatar width constraint...

Im using an LCD with maximum resolution of 1600 X 1200...



and at those settings, it seems like the height (250) is a-okay, but a width of 300 pixels would prolly be more than enough to satisfy the average forum member...

In any case, the maximum width should be greater than the the maximum height...


I create my own avatars, and usually when I find a nice image on the net, i'll save it,
then crop out any dead space using Adobe photoshopCS, then resize the image to the maximum dimensions
allowed...

I use Image Resizer to resize the images because it integrates a Resize Image(s) option into the left-click drop-down menu, making it alot easier to resize an image or a group of images...

I've noticed that it is a lot easier to customize an image for use as an avatar if the the maxWidth > maxHeight...

roadrunner cable.  5000/384.  i can usually hit anywhere from 300-525 on a torrent with 3+ seeders.  upload kinda sucks cuz i can only do 30up max.  but at least the DL is fast.

Ive got a 3 Mb/s cable connection and ive never really noticed a loading lag with the current avatar sizes...

I wonder if keeping the maxHeight = 250 and letting maxWidth = 325 would cause pages to load a lot slower?

That's only 75 pixels, I don't think it would cause a noticible page lag.

I second that emotion 'bout upload speeds, my upload max's out at 30kb/s, but I limit it to 20kb/s to allow myself some bandwidth to netSurf while I got a few .torrents rollin'...

yeah my up max is 30.  if my math is right 384/8=48x80%=38.4.  so i limit my up to 80% of max.  actually its far lower than 80% probably around 65-70% i would guess, since its set to 30KB/sec.  i suppose i could bump it up to 35 but oh well.

as for the avatars, it may on be an additional 75 pixels to to to 325 width, but just look at this thread.  you've posted at least 5-6 times, and each time it loads your avatar, so thats 75x5=375 pixels just for your posts.  now multiply that by the numbers of other posters and it gets out of hand quickly.

i don't think i have any lag here since my bandwidth is suffient, but in a general sense, the bigger the avatar the slower the page loads.

either way, i'm really indifferent.  i dont mind the extra .00005 sec it takes to load them. ;)

300 x 250 prolly better selection.

I used Azureus for a few months before I got fed up with pages loading slowly and took use of their upload limiter.

I've gotten extremly spoiled after having my 3Mb/s connection for as long as I have...

I disagree that width should be > height.  The height isnt going to force anyone to scroll their screen - they already have to scroll down to read the thread.  If theyre too wide people with low screen res's will have to scroll side to side. . .

I run a 19" CRT monitor at 1280x1024 and I never have to scroll my screen sideways for any of the current avatars in use.
