Title: The Big Lebowski Thread
Post by: MiamiPhish on September 19, 2008, 09:05:53 PM
I think this just might be the "it" that this board is missing.

Of course, that's just like, my opinion, man.

Who else has attended a Lebowski fest?  I'm a pretty big fan so I have to agree that this thread is the "it" of Week4paug.net.  Fortunately, I'm adhering to a very strict drug regimen to keep my mind limber...

The Big Lebowski 2?!? (http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/02/01/big-lebowski-2-in-the-works/?hpt=T2)

I don't know if I like the idea. The original was perfect and I can't see a reason to make a sequel, other than to generate revenue. But if it's still a Coen Brothers movie I'm sure it will kick ass.

QuoteI spoke with Joel and Ethan Coen today (look for that story closer to Oscar time) and mentioned Reid's comments.

Ethan responded with a chuckle, saying, "I'm glad she's working on it."

When I asked if they actually had something in the works, Ethan said, "Well, we don't but we'll watch it when it comes out." To which Joel quickly added, "Especially if Tara's in it."

The Cohen Bros are from the neighboring town that I live, and their father lives in the nursing home that my wife works in.  He calls her "luv".  They are un-official folk heroes around here and me and my friends have sat around watching this movie so many times I can't count.  Sweet Topic!

So late night a few weeks back I am flipping through the channels and the Dude is on TV.  I watch it for a second, even though it's edited because it's the Dude.  It's the scene where they go to Larry's house and smash up the car.

The edited version, and I was dying when I heard it, Walter says:

"Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps, Larry?  Do you see what happens when you feed a farmer scrambled eggs, Larry?"

I've seen that version, I liked when Jackie Treehorn asks The Dude if he'd like another white russian. In the regular version The Dude's answer is 'Does the pope shit in the woods?', but in that edited version he say's 'Sure, John Fogertty would.' alluding to The Dude's love of CCR.

There is no good excuse as to why you haven't seen it. It's got Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams and was directed by Terry Gilliam. And it lifts themes from Don Quixote, what more could you want?

Smokey's bluegrass band, The Wronglers, came through town a couple weeks ago.  My buddy John got his picture taken...

I've heard smokey has a cover of Ripple on an album somewhere but I haven't tracked it down yet.

It's on his album One Endless Night.

He still lives here.
Btw, frankly more 'paugers should be familiar with JDG for the fact that he wrote My Mind's Got A Mind Of Its Own.

I got a chance to see him (and exchange a friendly nod) at a tiny bluegrass festival about three weeks ago in Westcliffe, CO.  (Hay Mountain Fever BG Festival)

Seemed to be a super down-to-earth nice guy.

why have I never seen the fisher king
There is no good excuse as to why you haven't seen it. It's got Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams and was directed by Terry Gilliam. And it lifts themes from Don Quixote, what more could you want?

The Fisher King is actually a part of the Grail Legend and cited in Eliot's The Wasteland.
Fascinating stuff that you do not need to know anything about to enjoy the movie.

BUMP

Just so that everybody knows. You can rent The Jesus Rolls on Amazon Prime right now for $7.

$7 & a 7 year bump... a coincidence? I think not!

We are planning on watching it today or tomorrow. I'll let you know. The trailer looks good though. Lots of big names in this movie.

Well, we finally watched it today. It's now only  $0.99 to rent on Prime. And that is way to much to pay for this movie. It is utterly terrible. There isn't a single good thing to say about it. It was like it was written by a 9 year old, there was no story, the characters had no characteristics, the dialogue was incomprehensible. Stay away from this movie at all cost!

Far out man.

In other Lebowski news, I highly recommend the Lebowski themed K-hole freak out in last week's High Maintenance.

Shit was bonkers.
