So last night while the wife was working I binge watched the first 4 episodes if this show and I'm now hooked. I had dreams about it and have been thinking about it all day. I can't wait until Saturday so that I can binge the last four episodes.
If you have Netflix (or a jailbroken FireStick) I highly recommend watching it.
I really enjoyed it. So nostalgic in the best way.
I'm addicted to it. I can't stop thinking about what's going on. I'm sure when I finish the season I'll have questions I feel like discussing, but for now I just want to say "I love this show."
I loved it. I lost track of all the movies it reminded me of in one way or another. Everything from The Goonies and Stand by Me, to The Exorcist and E.T.
The soundtrack was amazing, too. It really added to the nostalgia.
I wrote things in the Netflix thread about it... Loved this show and have pushed it on many people.
The fact that the whole thing is rife with D&D references is a nice bonus.

This kid stole the show.
Ok I'm starting this.

This kid stole the show.
Yeah, this kid was just perfect. Great casting all around for this show.
We've been watching an episode a night with my almost-11-years-old son. Perfect age.
The score absolutely makes this show, especially the opening sequence
Before I knew about this thread or saw it in the Netflix thread, my brother described it as Goonies meets X-Files. Just finished episode 2. Hooked.
It's really starting to piss me off that I can't finish this series tonight. :hereitisyousentimentalbastard
Yup, thanks a lot guys.
French filmmaker Ulysse Thevenon made this killer supercut of selected scenes from the show with the associated scenes from its 1970s-80s counterparts.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Winona Ryder yet. Pretty damn good performance.
The wife leaves for work in an hour and a half, then I go to the basement and binge watch the last three episodes. I'm like a kid on christmas. :wtu:
Just finished it. Great show. Leaves it open for a sequel or two. The only thing I had a problem with was
Nancy getting back together with Jean Ralphio McDick-Tickle, I hate that guy.
Episode six almost had me in a panic attack it was so intense. Or maybe it was the :smoke:
Really enjoying the 3 episodes I have seen. Will try to squeeze in at least one or two more tonight. Very well done show.
MC, i'm too lazy right now to figure out how to black out my post like yours so I'm just going to be as vague as I can. I actually liked him throughout the entire show. They never really made him a bad guy, just a dumb guy who couldn't understand that there's a monster stealing people away to another dimension. And you know that thing he does at the end was pretty funny/heroic
Watched the first 6 episodes yesterday. Hope to finish it up tonight. Really great stuff. The whole 80's angle is really done well.

He's a dick to not only Jonathan (that one is slightly justified) but also a a complete asshole to Nancy and then Jonathan again (this time getting his bitch-ass kicked for it). He just seems like a sleezy "do anything to get laid' type to me. :sbw:
He reminds me of everyone I hated in high school.
I don't think he's that one-dimensional and the character does grow a bit...
I think they did that well, esp for a supporting character.

I read an interview with the Duffer Brothers and they said that he was written as the complete douche that I think of him as, but as they were filming they really liked the actor who was playing him so they decided to write him a better ending/resolution.
Also worth noting, that dude's band is kinda cool.

Loved this so much, probably the coolest thing ive watched in a while. The stepson did a bunch of research post last episode about it and I guess this might just be a two part event, which i love the idea of. Tons of theories after watching. So what sort of "upside down" connection is will gunna have? Crazy connections to 11? Obviously 11 is still alive, I think at least. If not who is eating the eggos? Lots of awesome stuff. cant wait to watch more, and cant wait for the soundtrack to get dropped(bet its gunna get pressed too).
I'm definitely going to grab the soundtrack when it comes out

I was kinda sad when I saw that it was only being released Digitally and on CD. Not pressing it would be a totally missed opportunity for more nostalgia.
I'm only through episode 4, binged 2-4 last night...
totally in love with every character's development, the music, the forensic side of it, and all else in between.
hopefully I'll be able to finish before we have our big move next weekend. I'm super pumped to see where this story goes.
Got an episode left.
Good stuff.
The wife and I are halfway through our second viewing. And I still stand by Steve is a complete douche.
finally watched this. some good stuff in there. also some cheese.
if you need more of an '80s fix, you really must watch a little-seen movie from last year, Turbo Kid. it does an incredible job of totally recreating the '80s aesthetic without resorting to specific call-backs to scenes from '80s movies. also it never pretends to BE an '80s movie, it just uses the aesthetic and totally captures the feel of those movies in a way i found way more impressive and real than Stranger Things.
of course ymmv, you might prefer Stranger Things, but give Turbo Kid a shot. it's so great!
Finished this last night (not a marathon TV watcher), while I got sucked in and enjoyed it, the scifi stuff got a little too out there at the end for my taste.
Still a fun watch and will probably tune in for season 2.

Shit!! I was working on that exact design for a shirt last night and was planning on finishing it up tonight.
Heh, apparently you'd be at least person #3 with this same idea.
I gotta buy this and the leia wish you were here shirt. Love em
Shit..... should have known better than to think I had a clever idea before someone else in the phish community.
Just wrapped up this season. A good bit of the supernatural stuff -- which is to say, the entire underpinning of the show -- was left un(der)explained, which I tried not to let bother me too much on the basis that sometimes weird things happen in genre films just for their own sake, but it did feel a little arbitrary in places.
But, all in all, pretty entertaining.
And cactusfan, I'm with you on Turbo Kid.

Quite so.
Looks like season two is now official for next Fall.

The kids from the series were on Jimmy Fallon tonight, should be interesting.

I was calling Steve 'Jean Ralphio McDick-Tickle' from the start. Now look at this article/video about how Steve is Jean Ralphio's real father. :-o

It's so funny cause I totally thought it was the same actor for the first few scenes I saw him in.
But this show is fucking amazing!! I love it, it really is refreshing in it's own way. And I definitely dig the D&D references. The opening scene definitely got me hooked. I have a soft spot for any D&D playing nerds.
especially when they help save the town with using theoretical/quantum physics, D&D lore, and McGyver type shit
Next fall is too far away!
I know this is the wrong thread but I love to hate Jean Ralphio

So my buddy, Carl (the most artistic guy on the planet) made an amazing Demigorgon costume this year.
I couldn't figure out how to embed the Facebook video. But you can see the vid in this article I found about his costume.

I can see the vid unfortunately.
on Halloween I'm going to a club that has the dudes who do the Stranger Things soundtrack performing. It ain't Vegas but should be interesting.
So I have nothing to back it up, and I'm too lazy to google things.
But my buddy told me they are only doing a second season and ending it. I really hope it's not true.
Second season, yes.
Ending it? No word that I've seen... unless that's to mean, tiding up some of the remaining loose ends.
Plenty of spin off ideas they could run with too.
I kinda hope they end it after the next one. Tell the story, move on, and do whatever's next. There's no reason they couldn't wrap this up and start fresh with a new story for season three.

I've noticed shows starting to do this more recently. Fargo (the show) comes to mind. I was so curious how the second season was gonna continue, then they just switched it up on me.

I don't disagree with this.

I'm on board with it becoming an anthology series as well.
Shows can easily overstay their welcome.
Two seasons often seems like a good stopping point.
Merry Christmas, you filthy animals

just flew through this entire season in the last 2 weeks. great stuff!
i think i read somewhere recently it's on tap for a few more seasons, not just a 2 and done series.
My buddy Carl, who made the famous Demigorgon Costume for Halloween in 2016, sent his friends a picture of himself in the costume in holiday attire in front of a green screen. Here's what I just threw together whilst having some x-mas eve Girl Scout Cookies.

Holy shit!
My sister's been after me to watch this shit for months, so I sat with her this afternoon and we marathoned the first 4 episodes, and, well...
Let's just say that my yearly winter run-through of The Wire has been postponed.
season 2 lived up to the hype! but what was that shit with 11's sister??
Just catching up with season 3.
2 episodes in and I'm digging it.
Season two was dark but had that lame tangent. Season three gets back to the root of what was great in Season 1: Nostalgia, Drive-In monster fare & humor. The Red Scare business and the weight of additional characters manage not to weigh it down, either.
Thoughts on the ending/Season four:
- no spoilers -
I feel they know what they're doing for season four, at least in general terms. They've set us up with specific cliffhanger action; more specific than before.
- spoilers -
With the fam and Eleven moving away, they have an opportunity to thin the cast a little bit but those aren't really the ones I'd do away with. Surely not every will be back. The 'party' is getting too large. Anyway, I'm guessing that we're looking at Thanksgiving or Christmas 2020 for the new season and, it's gonna be a long road home from Russia for the chief.
