I'm seeing this Marcus King Band (on the schedule) in a few weeks and have only briefly given them a listen.
They're actually pretty talented guys from the 5 - 6 minutes I heard.
They opened for Mule at Red Rocks, opening for TAB the weekend I see them.
Making a name for themselves.

I've been seeing that name a LOT the last 2-3 months...still haven't listened to them yet though...but they're definitely making the rounds and coming up quick...unless of course, they've been around forever, and just never got much recognition.

Listening to Sun Dried Opossum now.
Not too into the name but they don't suck.

Gonna listen all day until I leave work... then jump back on at 7 when I get home. Should be a good day.

after listening to slower gd with bobby and phil, i found it weird in general to listen to fast versions of gd with none of the members.

Yeah, I couldn't decide if that was a tribute (40th anniversary and all) or a real dick move. Especially when they played the whole suite when normally (I believe) they stop after Lady with a Fan > Terrapin. It was mildly awkward in my living room for a minute but I got over it quick cause it smoked. Loved that whole set. Russo is an animal.

I turned it off when JRAD dropped into Terrapin.

I don't agree that the Phil/Bobby one was bad. Slow? Totally.
I especially liked the way they incorporated Hunter's Jack O'Roses near the end... seems fitting.

Post by: Hicks on August 26, 2017, 06:06:31 PM
They sort of got it together towards the end but Bobby's timing was waaaay off at the beginning.  I guess he could blame technical difficulties with his mic, but it was painful.

Honestly did not dig that lineup overall.

JRAD smoked as usual, but you really have to wonder about that Terrapin, especially when paired with Been Caught Stealing later on.

:-D

I missed that, as I fell asleep during Truckin. I only know that because I remember hearing the beginning of that song followed by waking up on the couch at 5:30 am.

I think it's weird they played Terrapin, knowing well in advance that Phil and Bob were going to play the whole album. I guess the Jane's cover makes it...ironic?

His band for this (and for the last couple of years) is the Promise of the Real... they usually perform as Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real, when they're not backing Neil. Lukas and Micah Nelson are the two guitarists - they are two of Willie's sons.

Aside from the absurdity of a bongo player (might be congas but c'mon) Promise Of The Real is a perfect band for Neil. Loose when they need to be, tight where it counts.
I would like to see them together.

PGFest, FTW!! I saw a total of about 45 minutes of music over the course of the first three days out there! Half of that was the Barton Hills Choir, the other half was Tank and the Bangas.

FTR, I gotta say there is one performance I go out of my way to see every year and it's these kids!
