Yeah, The Philosophy of Star Wars, it's pretty good, I think it might be on the special features of the newest release, that and the next show Star Wars Tech.

i'm digging it. it's cool to get other peoples "philosophies" on certain things vs. hearing it from george lucas himself.

kevin smith says something like: i hafta love jabba the hut, one cause i'm shaped like him & two cause if it weren't for jabba we'd never see princess lea in a bikini.

totally.

he goes onto say that Jabba is sexy because anybody who just sits around and has things done in front of them like that is rich and powerful enough to lay around and get served all day is just sexy.

coolest pop up book ever.

Star Wars is the great american "epic"...i argue that media formats have changed culture enough to encompass more than texts and poetry into the classic epic formula...in medias res, clearly defined heroes, yadda yadda.

Word, II would be my pick too, the last 45 minutes almost conjured up the old Star Wars magic.

III really pissed me off though, it was supposed to be the best one of the entire series but was just more of the same bad dialog and poor acting.

The beginning of III is the best of new star wars...that battle is just enormous on the big screen.  Of the old school, Empire is the best, cause Luke turns into the little bitch he is...and Vader rocks his ass.

Anyone ever think there is a reason episodes IV, V, and VI were released first?  Think we would be discussing this stuff if it went the other way around?  I certainly don't.  Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of this series.  But I just don't think it would have taken like it has if the first couple episodes were released first.

Maybe if they replaced a bandmember and played the same one setlist, night after night.

Lucas deserves a Sarlacc treatment. It's like he colorized his own damn movie or something. The King of the Assholes.

My last: Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix. Awesome.

I thought the prequels had so much potential given the events leading up to Ep. IV.  They would have been much better had Lucas not directed.  Maybe then the actors could have gotten something done.  He's a terrible director for actors and is much better served in the producing role (IMO).

that's why I sort of compare it to PH phish.  I saw Eps I, II, III quite a few times each in the theaters (I couldn't help it) yet part of me wishes they had never been made... :|

Star Wars is considered an epic, and one quality of an epic is it starts en media res (in the middle of the action).  That's why Lucas had to start there.  It hooks us and then he can always go back and tell the story that leads up to it.
The Odyssey is the same way.  It starts in the middle of the action and then goes back and tells a bunch of pre-story which isn't quite as exciting as when he goes home and destroys the suitors- which he is near to getting to that point in the beginning of the book, but has to retell his whole story.

If Lucas started with Episode I, it may have never made it through the whole series, at least not with the fanbase it has today.

I actually spent about 30 minutes discussing the similarities of The Odyssey and Star Wars in terms of epic poetry to my 8th graders.

Whoa.  Among other things, in this charming anecdote, David Lynch tells us he told George Lucas to direct Jedi himself, and also that Lucas "doesn't really love directing."  Check it >

I'm doin that shit tonight. I have to do a research paper on star wars and how it relates to mythology. Best paper i've ever had to do. And those episodes I-III suck so much. What was Lucas thinking when he decided to add Jar Jar binks. And that awful scene at the end of the III one when vader just yells no. That was so bad IMO. Like dam he lost his touch.

I stumbled on this randomly last week.  It's a fan-made film called Deleted Magic that has TONS of deleted scenes, original scenes without the voice overs, special effects, behind the scenes, etc.  A definite "must see" for any Star Wars fan.  Apparently it's been around for years.  I'd never heard of it before.

Apparently there is one for Empire and Return of the Jedi, as well, but there aren't any seeders.

on the other hand i think the CLone Wars series on cartoon netowrk is the best thing since sliced bread. theyve really stepped up the maturity level the last season and its just incredible all around. by far the best star wars media after the original movies.

QuoteStar Wars Rebels, a one-hour animated pilot already in production at Lucasfilm, is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2014 on the Disney Channel before the new brand leaps to Disney XD for the ongoing series, according to Lucasfilm sources.

The series will mine material from the 19 years that follow Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and precede the Episode IV: A New Hope. In other words, using the life of the Skywalker twins as a measure, the series will be active in the story years that come after their separation as newborns and before their (unwitting) reunion on the prison level of the Death Star.

While it may be one of the worst performances ever, I wouldn't put much weight into a movie that was directed by George Lucas.  After all you've got Oscar winner Natalie Portman and nominees Liam Neeson and Sam Jackson looking like a bunch of idiots up there.

That being said, he may be a horrible actor after all.  I haven't seen him in anything else.  I can just envision Lucas saying, "Let's try it again, but try to be more annoying.  We want the audience to dislike you."

Empire is the least offensive of the special editions, of course. (Except for some of the more over-exuberant Cloud City CGI.) This is probably, and not coincidentally, because it was the best of the three in the first place.

Truth.   I even like the Cloud City stuff.

Part of the problem (maybe the main problem) with the CGI in the special editions is that it doesn't match the look of the films. There's a very analog look to them, because they were made in an analog age: actual props, optical compositing, matte paintings, puppets... So just sticking a CGI sequence in there, even if it looks fine on its own, is discontinuous. I don't mind so much some of the cleanup (e.g. removing the smear under Luke's landspeeder, fixing opacity and outline issues with compositing) that otherwise preserves the original visual intent.

I agree with this.  And I think the despecialized versions above *do* keep at least some of the cleanup parts you mentioned.

I think the intention is to give you the most clean version of the movie as theater audiences saw them back in the day. Minus all of george lucas's 'better making' and 'if i had had the money's.

There's a long discussion somewhere (non-paug) about what exactly he did - check that out for details from the horse's mouth.

I think the jist of it is that he cleaned up (or left cleaned up) some blurring and evidence of effects from the original (matte lines, etc.)

New info for the Stand-Alone movie as well as Ep VIII

http://www.starwars.com/news/rogue-one-is-the-first-star-wars-stand-alone-film-rian-johnson-to-write-and-direct-star-wars-episode-viii?linkId=12857863

This morning at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, across the street from Lucasfilm, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger hosted a shareholder meeting where he announced news regarding the first Star Wars stand-alone movie as well as Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Rogue One is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz (Cinderella, About a Boy, Antz). The first actress cast is Felicity Jones, who garnered an Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim for her performance in The Theory of Everything. The idea for the story of Rogue One came from John Knoll, an Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. He will executive produce along with Simon Emanuel (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds). Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To (Band of Brothers, The Pacific) are on board to produce and John Swartz (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will co-produce. The film starts shooting this summer in London and is due for release on December 16, 2016.

In addition, Iger confirmed that Rian Johnson will write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII. The film, which continues the saga after the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is set for release on May 26, 2017 — forty years and a day after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977. Johnson is widely considered one of cinema's most gifted young filmmakers, having directed the modern sci-fi classic, Looper, as well as Brick and The Brothers Bloom. He was also behind the camera for three episodes of the critically-acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad, including "Ozymandias," which series creator Vince Gilligan named as the best installment of the show. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, producer of Looper, Don Jon, Brick, and The Brothers Bloom, are on board to produce.

sexy trailer.
funny the Abrahms (sp?) screen glare made an appearance, lol.
i got chills when Chewy showed up.
no doubt this movie is going to be visually/stylistically perfect.
question is how 'safe' are they playing it with the story.
seems like the whole plan was to put out a class A hollywood abrams flick with no chance of a major flaws like the last 3, but i'm still really hope there is something more than par story wise.
anyone know what Lucas' involvement was in the script or who actually is writing these?
only thing i heard was that the original ep7-9 stories were scraped entirely and this was all a new conception.

REgardless. sexy as hell.
i'm planning on watching ep1-3 to lower my expectations as much as possible before going, lol.

Pretty sure Lucas is just overlooking some of the production if anything....script was written by a Disney guy when they handed it over to them.

Umm

The script is not written by "a Disney guy"

The writers are JJ Abrams, Michael Arndt (winner of the Academy award, best screenplay go "Little Miss Sunshine"), and Lawrence (I wrote Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark, motherfuckers) Kasdan.

Lucas has not been involved. When asked (by either Kennedy or Abrams, I believe), Lucas' response was "Surprise me."

Ah I read the article wrong, the "story treatment" or first drafts of the screenplay, for the next 3 episodes is handled by the Disney chairman, Bob Iger.

Story treatment is plot layout. That is not the same as a screenplay. It's more an outline.
This is an important distinction and not just because of union rules. The screenplay gives us the dialog, the intricacies of the plot itself...

Story is only a bit more elaborate than:

A young farm boy meets an old wise man and travels with him to fight the evil galactic empire and learn the ways of a mysterious power called "the force".

That is then handed to a screenwriter who then makes something of it.

also, i've been hesistant to watch that new trailer. i thought i heard it was sorta spoilerish

I lived my entire 18 year old life trying to avoid any and all Phantom Menace spoilers -- like I never even watched a teaser trailer and look how that turned out. JJ has been masterful in keeping the plot of this film under wraps, nothing in that international trailer will give you any further clue how this plot is going to go, if you've watched the first 3 go ahead and watch it, it's amazing

so I tried to get tickets to the 8pm show Thursday but they were sold out so I settled for the 9pm show. I told Dana it's going to be a late night for the boys and they'll be dragging ass Friday morning but this is a once in a lifetime experience #fatheroftheyear

cool, thx for heads up!

i'm still hoping to god i will be able to go to the theatre for the movie. it will really suck if i half to wait forever to see it on video and then only on the small screen.
last movie i tried going to almost put me in the hospital though. the way movie chairs are desigened to fold up  basically act as a death trap device for my herniated discs...
im thinking i mnight just try standing up against the back wall, lol.

for those not playing the new game but star wars fans there are a couple of interesting tie ins they are doing that couple the game with the whole cannon.
for one, the first dlc for the game is going to be the "Battle for Jabbu", which i believe is supposed to lead up to the beginning of the movie where the aftermath of the battle is a setting.
also, there is this book that was just released setting up a story  for the game in relation to the movies.

I had the same question.  The answer, obviously is both.  I am not a huge fan of 3D though, but I think I am gonna do 3D IMAX first and 2D second.  That's what my gut is telling me.  Hicks is going to 2D on Sunday and 3D Imax with me on Tuesday.  I want to see the huge screen first, even though I almost always prefer 2D.  Every movie, some say have to see it this way and the other half say, have to see it the other way.  Hard to say which is better.  Went to Mad Max 3D and it was dope.

Have tickets for a 2D showing. Starting there seems "right."  Wednesday at 3pm. Alamo Drafthouse. Will be watching with a (512) Pecan Porrter in my hand. Yes.

btw, i found it real interesting that cable wasnt spamming the old movies this last month.
usually theyve been on throughout the holididays ever year anyway and i especially expected it this year.
i thought maybe it was Disney holding them back like theyve done with their other old films, EG snow white or whatever, where theyd only show them once a year on tv, but after a quick google all i could find is that SPIKE held the rights to air them from 2008-2014 despite Disney taking over.
couldnt find anything about if Spike still has th contract for cable...

Got to see this last night. AWESOME movie!

One thing I learned about myself last night is I hate 3D movies. The last 3D movie I saw in theaters was Avatar, and I remember disliking that experience. Decided to give it another go since I was with a group of people in which the majority wanted to see it in 3D. Never again

Some kid brought a cassette recorder when he went to see Star Wars for the second time back in 1977 to record the audio.  It's been sync'd with the video here, but you get a good feel for the audience's reaction.  It's pretty fun.

Star Wars: Episode VIII has a title

Confirming suspicions that Luke Skywalker wasn't wearing those gray robes and staring off into the misty horizon for nothing, Lucasfilm has confirmed that the full title of the next chapter in Star Wars' Skywalker family saga will be Star Wars: Episode VIII—The Last Jedi. The news was announced on Twitter just a few minutes ago, along with the nifty teaser poster seen below. Expect more updates on this story than even the most diehard fan can handle between now and the film's release date of December 15, 2017.

My hope was that with Han being the old-school star of VII, it'd be Luke in VIII and Leia in IX. In my little fantasy world, Leia was going to finally realize her inborn Force potential and team up with Rey to kick ass in the finale. Alas.

Mind = Blown

Fun Facts about The Force Awakens

Quote
1) Finn's Stormtrooper ID number is FN-2187, which is the same number as the cell block where Leia is imprisoned in "A New Hope."

2) Many familiar banners can be seen hanging outside Maz Kanata's outpost. These include several of the podracers' flags from "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" and the mythosaur skull from Boba Fett's uniform.

3) The Millennium Falcon chess game that Finn accidentally triggers pays homage to an earlier film by picking up right where the chess game between R2D2 and Chewie left off in "A New Hope." The piece that gets body slammed in the original game gets revenge by hitting its assailant with a mace this time around.

4) The Abednedo X-wing pilot is named 'Ello Asty' after the 1998 Beastie Boys' album, 'Hello Nasty.' On the package of his officially licensed toy, the Aurebesh text on his helmet reads "born to ill," which is another Beastie Boys reference as well as a reference to the Stanley Kubrick film "Full Metal Jacket." (1987)

5) The archway in Rey's village on Jakku was actually originally designed by Ralph McQuarrie to be part of Jabba's Palace on Tatooine. Another impact he had on the film.

Those banners lend credence to a pretty cool fan theory that Maz Kanata is actually the last (and tallest) Jawa. In The Phantom Menace two Jawas are watching the pod races and the taller one is one of them. Then in a New Hope when the Jawas have R2 there are 7 of them (including one that is taller), but after the storm troopers kill them there are only 6 bodies. Plus Maz's goggles make her eyes glow yellow, just like a Jawa. There's more to the theory, but I cant recall any more details right now.

The New LEGO UCS Millennium Falcon Will Have Over 7,500 Pieces, Cost $800

QuoteAccording to the USA Today, the new Millennium Falcon boasts 7,541 pieces. It measures 33 inches long, 22 inches wide and 8 inches tall. The cockpit alone holds four minifigures, "there's a living room with posh seating and a Dejarik holographic game, plus a gunner's seat and interchangeable radar dishes (since the Falcon got an updated one for the current trilogy)." The set also comes with minifigures that let you customize the Falcon to your preferred era. There's 1980s Han, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and C-3PO as well as a buildable Mynock (so basically Empire Strikes Back), but if you want to go sequel trilogy, there's Old Han, Rey, Finn, and BB-8 plus some Porgs.

I love these kind of sets. To be completely honest I built the "advanced" sets well into high school... This is making me want to start up again!
I had the original millennium falcon advanced set, that thing took me ages to build and it was less than 1/3 the size of this thing!

4 billion was such a steal.

The box office grosses alone will top 5 billion after Last Jedi.

A few old friends and I went yesterday for the noon showing. Enjoyed it immensely. We went out for margaritas after and discussed the movie for hours. We also managed to absolutely wrecked. I'm sure everyone around us enjoyed all the spoilers we were dropping. I still have lots of questions,as everyone surely will. Go see it soon

yeah i was super careful too, but was getting increasingly difficult so finally downloaded a pretty decent copy online and watched one night, so now at least i can browse without fear.  i don't recommend doing what i did though - the theater experience is always the way to go, beyond just the visual and audio improvements!!

So this got me to thinking.

Top five worst character movie ideas?

5. Baby Greedo
4. Dexster Jettster
3. The microphone-mouthed medical robot from ESB
2. "Where are you taking that ... thing?" guy
1. Nute Gunray

Perhaps you were expecting "Jar Jar Binks: The Motion Picture" would be a lock for the top spot.
But c'mon. You'd watch it.
Title: Re: Star Wars
Post by: Hicks on February 03, 2018, 03:22:44 AM
Well just to be clear, not all of those choices were really what I would pick for the best movie. I chose Droopy McCool because I wanted to highlight his ridiculous name. And I threw Maz Kanata in there because I wanted all three trilogies to be represented.

Anyway, five worst characters in the Star Wars universe?

Ok, let's go.

5. Adm. Ozzel

Just a complete loser, how did this schmuck ever get to be an admiral in the first place?

4. Count Dooku

Only good thing about this character is that he was played by the great Christopher Lee, and he's dead.

3. Ki Adi Mundi

Worst ponytail ever.

2. Power Droid

Ok this one is really obscure, so I'll link it up. But basically it's just a little person with a storage bin over their head.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Power_droid

Best part?  They actually made a figure of it:

1. That lady in the library that says "If an item does not appear in our records, it does not exist!"

I mean seriously, fuck that lady.

yes but I think it's the basic, ad-supported Hulu.  I never understood the point of cord-cutting if you're still paying for ads with these streaming services!  anyway, with 2 kids in single-digit ages, Disney+ will be a no-brainer buy for me.  the ESPN stuff is a bonus, and at least now I can stop torrenting Handmaid's Tale.

I'm pretty stoked.  I didn't realize that all Verizon customers get a free year of Disney +.

Did not know that.  Bonus for me!

You need to have an unlimited data package to get it.

Or Fios at home.  Which I have.

I am hooked and also extremely saddened that there are only 8 episodes in the first season.

Yeah, but even better.

They give you a free Week Trial before you have to pay for it. So if you wait until the 1st week of January you could watch all 8 episodes during the free week trial and then cancel it.

I really enjoyed The Mandalorian.

I definitely enjoyed the "Star Wars Canon" episodes more than the more Star Trek-style standalone episodes, and every once in a while the effects looked like a TV show and not a movie.

Just watched the Project 4k77 release of the original Star Wars, as it originally looked.
It's amazing.

Here's info on this, if you're curious:
https://www.thestarwarstrilogy.com/project-4k77/

And the tl;dr outtake:

Is this an upscale?

No, 97% of project 4K77 is from a single, original 1977 35mm Technicolor release print, scanned at full 4K, cleaned at 4K, and rendered at 4K.

Who did this?

Team Negative 1 (TN1) – the same crew who brought you The Silver Screen Edition (SSE) three years ago. TN1 are not professional film restoration experts, they are just Star Wars fans, like you.

Why do this?

You mean apart from the fact that there hasn't been a new transfer of the original film since 1993 (the 2006 Bonus DVDs used the 1993 laserdisc master tapes) and George Lucas pretty much denies this version ever existed? This is the version I grew up watching, over and over again, and I'm afraid technology has moved on to the point where the old VHS, betamax, CED, laserdisc and 2006 Bonus DVD just don't look good enough to watch on modern HDTV and 4K UHD Televisions / Home theater projectors. I wanted to show the film to my kids, and I wanted them to see the original version that I enjoyed at their age – not the one with the already dated looking CGI, over saturated colors and a strong magenta tint.

Yes. Through a circuitous route, I've acquired a blu-ray of it (and of Jedi (they're still working on Empire)), and it's just beautiful.
Actually puts one back in the '70s watching it, which is great. It's such a '70s movie, with such great '70s special effects, while at the same time being so different from anything else of its era.

The special editions are an incomprehensible muddle in comparison, especially in terms of look and feel.

The comparisons to I've seen say/show that it's more authentic to the 70s theatrical print, but not necessarily higher quality than the Despecialized Edition.

It might be a matter of taste. The 4k77 is taken almost completely from a single print, with the point of making it resemble as closely as possible the theatrical presentation. So there's film grain and softness, just like with film, as well as differences in color timing. Whereas the despecialized is taken from many sources with the goal of creating something as close as possible to what a home release would look like.

I really liked the look and feel of the 4k77.

Seems as though word on Jedi is that the new 4k83 version beats the despecialized hands down. Going to check that one out soon.

Last night I watched the Project D+80 Empire. Very nice. Though not as beautiful as the 4k77 Star Wars. But a 4k Empire is on the horizon...

Speaking of fan cuts and edits and such things, I did see the fan cut that incorporates the Siege of Mandalore from the final Clone Wars season into Revenge of The Sith. Pretty cool.

It's not for everyone but holy hell that Clone Wars finale is awesome.

Very excited to see Ahsoka in Mandolorian this season. Also, I really expect that the tie-in back to Rebels (the Dark Sabre) is going to deliver.

I absolutely loved season 2, especially the last few episodes. So is season 3 about Boba? What does Din Djarin do now?

Also, I?m guessing everyone is aware of the announcements from the disney investors meeting, but I thought it would be fun to discuss...

1) Mandalorian season 3-Is the Boba thing part of this or separate? Either way,

2) Ahsoka series

3) Obi-Wan limited series (with Hayden Vader appearing!)  :samurai:

4) Rangers of the New Republic series  :police:

5) Andor series (character from Rogue 1)  8-)

6) Rogue Squadron movie  :wtu:  :sbw:

7) Lando series

8) Acolyte series

9) Bad Batch animated series  :beerbang:

There?s more, but those seem like the most defined ones for now. HOLY SHIT.

The Book of Boba  Fett will be a separate show, not The Mandolorian Season 3. They withheld its announcement at the investors meeting to retain the surprise.

I'm also interested in learning more about 'A Droids Tale'. I'm guessing that it will explore Artoo's time without Luke.

So much good shit in the pipeline and what an terrific season of Mando. I LOVED the finale. Complainers about the CGI and fuck off. There's only one person who could have walked through that door and it was either CGI or recasting and someone was bound to be pissed. I say they handled it in the best possible fashion.

Gone ahead and started a rewatch of Rebels because I expect some tie-in from both the Ahsoka series and possibly Andor's show. I've skipped season 1 because it's a bit spotty (if you haven't watched the series, don't skip. It's worth seeing.) but jumping in on Season two it's killer.

The Mandolorian is easily the best thing Disney has done with the Star Wars IP since they bought it. This season was no slouch.

This sparked me to watch all the cannon Star Wars material, including the TV shows. I'm working my way through the newer Clone Wars series. Even though it's for kids it's really great so far. The one from Cartoon Network in the early 2000s was amazing as well, though.

In comparison to Disney's sorry excuse for a continuation of the trilogies, the Prequels are actually pretty good. I take back all my rage when they were the "shitty" trilogy. I know a new definition for shitty.

Definitely don't sleep on the Cartoon Network Clone Wars mini-series and the 'movie'.
The 'for kids' element fades pretty soon in to theories and it's some great shit.
Rebels is similar. before the end of Season One, it finds its feet and by the end, it's actually pretty heavy and great. Ties in to a Mando and a lot of the upcoming stuff too, I suspect. Well worth the watch.

Here's the chronological sequence for Clone wars viewing, if that's your thing.

https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder

Also, the final season overlaps with Revenge of The Sith. I mean, there are scenes that are directly adjacent (within seconds) to scenes in the film. It's goddamned great.

Yeah I'm only mid way through the first season of the clone wars series, so it still has the kids feel, which isn't the worst. I did not realize it was before the Revenge of the Sith, but I'll probably just rewatch that when it comes to it.

I was unsure about Rebels, but I'll give it a go as well.

Oh, man. Revenge Of The Sith is the literal end of The Clone Wars.

Are the two Ewok movies, Caravan of Courage and The Battle of Endor, canon? I'm thinking of buying them on DVD since Dagny has never seen them and they are not streaming anywhere.

As of April 25, 2014, the only previously published materials that are considered canon are the six Star Wars films, the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series and film, and Part I of the short story Blade Squadron. Meanwhile, the Expanded Universe is no longer considered canon[1] and was re-termed as the "Legends" brand. Most Star Wars material released after April 25, 2014?with some exceptions?is composed in collaboration with the Lucasfilm Story Group, making it part of the "new canon."

Some episodes are good, some meh, some not so good. All are between 10-15 minutes long.

Some of the art is awesome, some meh, some not so good.

The wife and I binged them all one afternoon.

I've watched most but not all. I'll come back when complete with some specific thoughts on each. But, so far, this assessment seems accurate:

i feel that.
Rogue one is prob my fav after return of jedi tho.
Andor is perfect so far.

i finished boba and obi wan..
i enjoyed both but also had issues with both.
basically didnt like the Rodriguez direction from the eps he did for boba.. which was like half of them.
and i thought the 3rd sister in obi wan was super weak writing/acting.

Mandalorion was sick, Boba Fett was ok and Obi Wan kinda sucked, haven't even finished that one but seems like it should've been a lot better with Ewan McGregor starring.

I guess I'll check out Andor at some point but not feeling very motivated after the last two shows.

Did love Rogue One though, easily the best Star Wars movie since the OT.

Similar experiential arc here, though I was pretty underwhelmed by Boba Fett by the end. Watched the first episode of Obi-Wan (I had actually forgotten all about it until just now), hated it, bailed. For that reason, I declared I have no interest in Andor. So now I guess I have to try it?

Andor rules (so far). I loved Rogue One.

Mando is great.

Boba was okay but a bit of a let down after Mando.

I really liked Obi Wan. It isn't quite the show I thought it would be but, taking it as a whole, I really enjoy it.

I cannot wait for Ashoka.

I gotta completely agree with rj's comment above. I've loved them all. Only adding that Boba felt like Mando season 2.5 more than it felt like a Boba show.

I really hope they give Cobb Vanth his own show. Timmothy Olyphant is the shit and he was perfect in that role, plus he's a Mod now!

OK--on y'all's advice I have watched two episodes of Andor. Feels like we're back on the right track. Acting, dialogue, production design all very good; decently mature in tone and aesthetic; not taking my Star Wars fandom for granted. Most assertive collection of British accents yet?

SPOILER ALERT - can someone explain to me what the hell they said to those 2 creatures while they were trapped in the netting outside the jail before they got the ship?  i couldn't make out that part at all and don't have time to watch the easter egg episode.  thanks!

So, this weekend I showed Dagny the Star Wars Holiday Special for the first time in her life. We had a blast making fun of it. Afterwards we listened to the How Did This Get Made podcast about the episode. That shit was funny as hell!

I hadn't seen in it in a good 20-30 years myself. I had forgotten about the old Wookie watching virtual reality porn in the middle of the living room.

HA! That's pretty similar to how I saw it when I was a kid. Mom used to sell green to the dude that worked at our local mom-n-pop video rental store. He would let me borrow his VHS copy each year, until the store closed when bigger chains moved into town.
