I was at this gig - one of the best nights of music I have ever seen.

Nice! I was just getting into MMW when these Shack Parties went down in the fall of '96, and I live like 14hrs from NYC so that just wasn't an option for me. Would love to have caught one or more of these Parties though! Actually, I'd love to catch any NYC residency the band plays, which they do from time to time ... some day ...

Duggy, is your site hosting every single MMW source in circ?

Are you essentially complete, as I'd like to complete my collection and figured I would use your torrent listings.

That said, I'll be leaching a heck of a lot off you in the next couple weeks.

That said, maybe I should send you an HD if you have a complete collection.

Also, really looking for:

http://db.etree.org/shn/5587     Ottawa 10/02/2001

and

The Neumann FOB source (the better of the two transfers)

http://db.etree.org/lookup_show.php?shows_key=103532

and

and this particular source:

Que te vaya bien, que te vaya bien, Te quiero más que las palabras pueden decir.

Marmar

I need the SUNY Binghamton show 1996, nov....

My DAT finally broke (only aud recording that was there)....I want the SBD.
Who's the Marmar? I'm the Marmar!!!

Phish doesn't write beautiful music...the beautiful music happens after the written parts.

<gainesvillegreen> now, if they could get their sound to be as good as the lights, we'd have a band hee-yah!!

Music is what feelings sound like.

My collection is indeed pretty much complete with all circulating MMW, aside from a few holes in 2001-2002 for which I only ever had a CDR copy, not lossless -- Tom's got those gigs in lossless though, so I grab from him to share as needed ... but, my collection is scattered across CDRs, DVDRs, and external drives at the moment -- basically, everything I've seeded since January 2012, which are all the ID tagged filesets, these are all on a single drive. That's a smattering of 280+ shows, but certainly isn't everything ... the rest is all scattered about through years of just trying to make sure I was at least archiving, while still trying to develop my own method of doing so.

Anyway ...

I can't fill a drive for you right now -- just too busy getting my collection organized, which is partly why The Shack Project exists. I wanted to organize all my MMW properly, a standard which has shifted over the past decade, and so I've been working through all of MMW. We seeded everything from 1993-2000 before I got to tagging filesets, and really correcting setlists/tracking as I seeded.

Ottawa will come down the pipe, but not for a while ... making my way through 2001, but I'm only in June gigs right now! HA!

I've got some Nov>Dec '96 seeds in process for torrenting/streaming, but I've got some other stuff in the queue before I get to those ... sometime this summer, for sure ... I'll post back in a few weeks when/if I get the show(s) up ...

Let me say this: THANK YOU!!! You are doing great work. As a casual collector at best, I truly appreciate the ability to simply and easily find all these shows in one place. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I've been coming to where I am from the get go
Find that I can groove with the beat when I let go
So put your worries on hold
Get up and groove with the rhythm in your soul

- SHACK THOUGHTS — MSMW FALL 2006 TOUR -
I dig Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, precisely because this is NOT MMW — if you are looking for MMW, seek out some MMW! This is MSMW. When I first heard A Go Go back in '98, I was already a fairly big MMW fan and had been listening for a few years. I really liked how seamlessly they became Scofield's band — how it sounded like the trio even though it didn't (so there's a minor amendment to my opening lines above — I still feel the trio in there, for sure, but the intent is different). However, this time around, the naming of MSMW is appropriate because Sco becomes more a part of a band rather than simply playing with a different rhythm section. The entire band is more integral to many of the songs, which is also interesting because a number of the tunes worked rather well live WITHOUT Sco when MMW played them in late '05 and early '06.

I am a fan of the MSMW sound and I love following a progression or evolution of a sound, which has been fun with these guys. The latest gigs from 2013 with Sco were more adventuresome than ever. On this Fall 2006 tour the band plays with their new sound, giving different treatments to tunes and exploring the spontaneous through those Down The Tubes improvisations, both with success and not so much, but the spirit of the exploration is what I remember loving, and each is worth that journey for various reasons.

Listen through the tour, or pick a gig or two and treat yourself to the MSMW sound ...

enjoy the grooves,

... there's a couple of gigs from 2007 listed on the page too, and more MSMW to come in the future ... of course, there are tons of MMW shows available too, and more being added all the time, so check out the site! And please spread the word if you know anyone looking for grooves and more ...

While I've mentioned this before, I can't stand MMW with Scofield. And I have seen this incarnation many many times. During his solos, I find myself praying for him to stop playing so I can hear MMW. And the hate is all encompassing: his tone, his choice of phrasing, his volume, his dynamics (or I should say lack thereof).  :frustrated:

HA! Well, you probably don't want to download any of these recent torrents then ... and, you're certainly not alone -- I know many MMW fans who just don't dig MSMW at all, to the point of "hate", as you noted. I don't get it, but to each their own ... everything you mention not liking: phrasing, volume, dynamics, are all aspects I enjoy in Sco's playing with MMW. In fact, I dig Sco more here than I do in other settings I've sampled from his work -- I know some folks rave about Sco outside of this project but don't like MSMW, however, I'm the opposite I guess. I love how MMW seem to push Sco into new areas, and Sco and Medeski's recent stints with Phil & Friends over the past couple of years have seemed to make Sco even more game to play around a bit -- check out the MSMW Dec 2012 Colorado gigs and the Jam Cruise shows from 2013.

Anyway, your reply, Superfreakie, is why I wrote the SHACK THOUGHTS I included above -- I know many feel like that, but I think many folks really dig the sound because MSMW is not MMW. Some prefer MSMW and don't like MMW, which baffles me too ... MSMW are not like when Ribot or any other guest sit in with MMW, it's just a different sound to me and one that I quite enjoy ...

I've got a great show where it's just Sco and Medeski -- just the two of them -- and it's super fun too, but again, different.

Trey has played w/ MMW 3 times ... it would be VERY cool to hear that happen again, and there was almost an "every 5 years or so" pattern, but we're long overdue now ... I couldn't say Trey's my favourite guitarist to sit in w/MMW (that would be Marc Ribot), but I always dig listening to Trey in any context so check out his playing in the MMW vibe where it both works and doesn't work at times, but still cool to hear ...

I missed that 2000 show by 1 day.  We went to 12/2/00 and 12/3/00, fun shows with Oren Bloedow on guitar - maybe my favourite era of live MMW.
