I'm a fan of JGB live at Shoreline DVD.  As for other shows, I can't really contribute to which are better than others.

I was watching this the other night. Absolutely wonderful. And this is great too.

Also, grab some music from over here:

It's a good mix of Garcia with the Dead, Legion of Mary, JGB, and with Grisman. 8 discs of goodness.

Agreed.

But Pie's Legion of Mary is a great place to check out as well.

Another place to start is the Pure Jerry series, as it has a great mix of all the different eras of Jerry:  JGB, Legion of Mary, Jerry and Merl Saunders, the bluegrass sets (Old and in the Way stuff), the run on Broadway.

Man I love me some Jerry Garcia.  Can't remember what thread it was in, but RJ once posted something to the effect that people went to see the Dead to here great GD music, but went to see JGB to really here Jerry shine (paraphrased from RJ's post, he said it much better than that).

Hey, BM, you still have that LoM "mix" somewhere? That was the shit!
Sadly I tossed all my XLII's earlier this year. I think my bro may have a copy still.

This mix was kicked down to my friend in college from Merle Saunders himself. Now I want to listen to it :-(

I know - and everybody we knew had a copy. I may still have it somewhere... probably in my parents' basement.  :shakehead:

JGB is something I know virtually nothing about and have listened to very little of.

Any advice on where to start/highlight shows/where to find them?

To add, I had a few friends in HS that had seen quite a few  :syf: shows at the time and they were adamant that in the 90's, JGB would outdo the Dead on any given day in their opinion.  Not sure if that was the general consensus, just relaying the thoughts from some serious Deadheads.

In the 90s, if you wanted to see Jerry at his best you would go to JGB shows

Why would that be?  Is it his supporting band? Was he less drugged up w/ JGB?

Honestly, the whole tape was highlights. Merle apparently hand picked the songs. The quality was A++, right off the masters.
He also kicked down a SBD GD tape that was  a mix of two shows that were unreleased at the time.
Must find that tape now.
