Below is more information (so you don't have to sift through the entire thread.)The most up-to-date fundraising news is just below...En route to Telluride, Shawn aka whyweigh4.5 was in a head-on collision while driving alone about an hour outside of Denver on Kenosha Pass. He drifted into oncoming traffic and clipped a minivan. No one else was seriously injured. He suffered broken ribs, a broken right hand, a broken pelvis and broken neck and swollen internal organs. He is presently out of the ICU at St. Anthony Hospital and his parents are with him in Denver.

i am thinking that all auctions need to offer free DOMESTIC USA shipping. this way i dont have to paypal money that i collect for shipping to the individuals who will actually be shipping the prints. this means that the people who donate the prints will be resposible for the expense of shipping. is this a bad idea? how else could we handle it without having all prints sent to me for redistribution? international winners should be charged and i will forward the funds to the person who donated to cover shipment.
in any event, it will be YOUR responsibility to ship the print via USPS Priority Mail w/ insurance for the full purchase price as well as delivery confirmation.

i know he was on the road to telluride on sunday evening. we had just told him that he could stay in our room in gunnison if he could make it that far but not to push it just to get there. i know he had had some issues w/ his rental car leading up to his departing the airport, one place was overcharging him compared to his reserved rate or something. he said he got it worked out and was on the road. i texted a couple of times before we went to sleep to see if he thought he was going to make it as far as gunnison but never heard back.
i texted him a couple of times monday morning and afternoon to see how far he'd made it because we never heard from him. once we got to telluride at&t was slammed and texts and calls were not being delivered, so it was tough to know if he just couldnt get through or if he hadnt made it down. i still expected to see him or get a message any minute.
by tuesday morning i knew i shoulda heard from him so i called the hotel and they said that he had called and cancelled at the last minute, but they couldnt recall why. i finally got a text from him that was delivered at setbreak tuesday night that just said that he'd been in a bad accident but not the extent of his injuries.
trying to find out more, if he's still in denver, we can go see him this weekend.
Okay, he texted me about 40 minutes ago. He's at St. Vincent's Hospital in Denver.
Guy - if you do go see him in Denver, you should try to bring him some tunes...

yeah, if people have specifics that theyd like to send him they can mail it to me, or send me $$ and i'll go buy it (within reason) and take it down to him, whatever. i dont know if he has any way to play music or movies, or if he has headphones for his iphone or anything like that. if people have extras or unused stuff like this, think of a way to get it to denver and i'll take it from there.

Being new to the forum and seeing all of you guys pull together like this and try to send w/e help and joy to WW really gave me hope for humanity. A few years ago i knew that there was a "family" of sorts in the deadhead group, and as i got more into phish i realized that the same exists there (and they are connected). Music brings people together in a truly profound way. Nothing makes me feel better than seeing people come together like this.
Sorry for being a cheese but I'm impressed with you guys and glad that I'm part of this awesome phamily.

My girlfriend works for a car rental place. She said in this situation most likely the car would have been towed to the nearest airport location, so the best bet would be to contact the manager of the rental car branch at the airport.

I live in Denver and went over to see him.... he is in high spirits but has a very long road ahead of him..... I met his dad and as also informed that both his sister and mother are in town too.... Shawn is a stand up guy and needs all the support he can get..... he will be in the ICU unit at St. Anthony's Central in Denver for at least the next two weeks....I encourage anyone who is in the Denver area to go and visit him...

Jason is the shit. I've PM'd him a few times about his photography and other things and he's always willing to answer questions and help however he can. He's a great guy and this is just further proof. I'm thinking weigh is now a lock at one of these JB shows. :-)

all we can do right now regarding the mock show is wait for tour to be announced. jason doesnt have any "official" info confirming the dates, and now the charleston, sc rumor has popped up for the same dates, w/ some members calling them kangfirmed....
if vegas goes down on any other weekend, jason will not be able to participate, though someone else may take over.
the logistics of organizing the show and donating most / all of the proceeds to shawn are a huge undertaking that would probably take a lot of private money to put together, i will keep everyone updated as things come together.
but what we really need most for this to go down is for the vegas rumor to come to fruition.

BTW, have you been able to swing back by the hospital? What kind of recovery time is he looking at? I'm sure it will be long and intense, but just seeing if you had any more info.

he told me previously that he could be here 3 weeks or 3 months, he wasnt sure, but that was earlier last week and he may have a better idea of whats ahead of him at this point.

Is he in a position where he could paug if he had a laptop? I'm not sure if he is physically able to do that or if its just a matter of getting him a laptop.
i dont think he's in a position to use a laptop as he's probably pretty much confined to lying flat on his back. he posted from his iphone on phishposters last night saying it was hard to type laying on his back looking up at his phone, but his laptop did not survive the crash.

Just a thought. We could possibly even hook up some voice software like Dragon. I'm not sure how that does for navigation but I think it does pretty well on the typing.
an ipad would be more suitable than a laptop, and while still pretty impossible to type, i have seen a dictation app that will type what you say, though im not sure if it will do it in a forums text entry window or just within that specific app. i suspect its just the app...

i know some people that might be able to get their hands on a cheap laptop (but a good one) and i could set it up for him. we could paypal the dude i know or something. thats if he can get a decent laptop, or i can ask my dad's company's tech guys to see if they have something i could buy for cheap, they get great solid/fast computer i know they all have upgraded RAM and HDs i think

You can copy and paste out of the app though.
The thought behind a laptop or ipad is great, but even talking in a way that is recognizable by software may be difficult for ww. Really, hearing aides should be the first priority, imo.

Agreed. My thought was so that he would at least have some way to kill time. Being the IT guy that I am, I sometimes access to old laptops, etc. so that was my thought.
But on the hearing aid issue, does anyone have any knowledge of this stuff? Are there certain decibel levels some do? Are there some basic ones to at least get him started? No idea on this stuff. If I get some information or something I can contact HearPO. AAA has them as a National partner and gives 25% discount to members. I am not sure if employees could get a deeper discount.

Features also vary widely, and most are custom-fit (they take a mold of your ear canal, then create the hearing aid insert from that). We'd need to find out from WW what special/specific features his hearing aides had, as the features can drastically affect how useful they are.

oh cant help you with macs (personal angst against them) but yeah thats true, hearing aids are pretty necessary.
as far as the computer goes, we could snag a refurbished one from the store... OR, buy one from ebay with a fucked up screen for cheap, have a screen tyhat i was gonna replace on my sister's but she just got a new one instead, that would be awesome and easy for me. just that white plasic model i think the 13.3" screen. so i think as far as the computer situation goes that could be our best bet, but we should still focus on other stuff first

does he have insurance? cause i would think that would take care of hearing aids? or no? i know my dad has one but i he said our plan covered some of the expense i just dont know how much.
also my dad has one that doesnnt have a custom fit, its just the piece that goes behind your ear, then a thin tube of some sort (clear) and a ear bud type thing that he just sticks in his ear, so he didnt have to get the mold or anythign (ive looked into that appointment myself for headphone molds like IEMs, the appointment its a coupole hundred then the molding is like another 1-2 hundred) so maybe it would be smart to think about that style that my dad has (if it would work for him of course)
wife and i went to visit shawn tonight. he has been downgraded from the icu and is now in a different room on the same floor. 280, further down the same hall. he had some energy and was able to talk a while, he said he was feeling better than he was the other day when jamey, jake, and john went to visit. his mom and dad are still around, too.
they said that his hearing aids were going to be covered by warranty, so thats a pretty critical piece of his return to normalcy taken care of. but he's still bored as hell sitting in the hospital bed 24 hours a day, so i think that getting him a laptop or an ipad or something so that he can get online and listen to some shows, etc should be a focus if we are to be putting together a fundraiser.
my vote still goes towards an ipad. its going to be a while 'til he can deal w/ a laptop. an ipad covers the immediate needs bases and is also light and easy to handle. the guy's in a halo w/ 15 screws in his skull. he has a cast on his right hand. his pelvis is broken. he cant put a laptop on his lap and start typing.....

ipad.... i just realized my dad got one for free from a company picnic, he still hasnt opened it and i dont seem him really using it that much, he said he would use it like a kindle pretty much (he has one of those and doesnt use it) so ill see if he would donate oor maybe we could pay him like a hundred or so $, its unopened and i think its the big one.

if people have things that theyd like to donate for auction, prints, posters, memorabilia, etc, i have set up an ebay account specifically for this cause. i think we decided that for most things, the exposure of ebay is worth what we'd save in fees by hosting the auctions themselves.
if you have an item that youd like to auction, get in touch w/ me. i'll probably handle all of the listings but the people who donate the items will be responsible for following through w/ prompt and proper shipment.

i can t wait to see my dog when i get home tomorrow. hes gonna have to keep me entertained. no computer amd no guitar or video games because of this damn cast. its hard for me to even hold a book. and basically my entire movie collection is on hard drives
and i really hope that i can recover my greek and alpharetta pictures off of my laptops hd

so i am surprising my doctors at every turn. i got my arm xrayed again today and it looked good enough that they are keeping the cast off :thumbup:

my ortho surgeon also x-rayed my neck today and said that its possible that we could take the halo off in 4 weeks now instead of 5-8. but we'll see how that goes. but he said that its perfectly lined up, so the halo is doing its job well. and after the halo comes off i will have to wear one of those collar neck braces for some time while i go back into rehab to work on the neck. hopefully this will be speedy like we are hoping for and i can still go to halloween. but i do understand that if i cant then i cant. theres always nye
