1999 was MY year... not my favorite (i'm sure everyone recalls what that is)... but i saw EVERY continental show that year, and loved every minute.
fall was perhaps my favorite period in my life... hooked up with my baby mama, saw the entire country multiple times, raged phish...

That was the only show I caught that fall and I thought it was pretty damn good. The Stash after a bunch of new songs (to me, at least) was a great capper to that set. I haven't listened to this in forever, and I suddenly feel a need to revisit it. If I recall, the Stash got really dark and left my ride in a puddle for the rest of the night. I'm sure the LSD-molly combo didn't help his case...

the 9/9 tweezer in particular is exactly what i'm talking about... so underrated, or its so far under the radar its not even rated... yet its got everything : funk, rawk, space. just yum!

Fall.....hmmm....I can honestly say I haven't revisited much fall '99 since it went down....I think it's maybe because of Rochester.....probably the worst show I'd ever saw up to that point in time.....I just seem to recall a lot of aimless loops with noodles and occasionally some spicy duck/soy sauce thrown in.....
Maybe it is indeed time to revisit.

09-12 is still one of the most underrated shows.
Just to clarify....I'm just sayin that Rochester left a bad taste in my mouth for the year....after Rochester, I stopped listening to Phish for a period of time.....I could kinda sense the ugly and walked away from it.....after Rochester I sold my Cypress tix :-o
I haven't really listened to any 99 shows since Rochester was kinda my 1.0 Coventry.....fwiw.....after that I only saw 5 shows in 2000......it killed my desire to tour any longer.....
12-05-99 is still my least favorite attended 1.0 show, but I did a ton of 2000 for the rebound ;)

Yes Albany was good.....I was WAYYYYYY spun and most of those 2 shows made my face melt.....IIRC the Maze was en fuego and it was a blast watching it from behind the stage.....

ok....just listened to the 9-12 Gin and 9-22 Gin.
9-12 is a decent Gin. Nothing that really stands out though. Fully type I. IMHO there's really nothing to write home about with this Gin....pretty standard fare, and very tame by 1.0 standards.
9-22 the breakdown before the 6 minute mark is cool. 8 minutes in and I'm getting bored......pickin up steam at 11....ok, 13 in and now it's HOSE.....still very type I, but it's smoking compared to 9-12. Those last 5 minutes are why I exist, even though it's based on THE riff I learned to hate....ya know, that riff I am always sayin that was in EVERY jam in from 99-00...ya, it's there.
The clear winner is 9-22. Even though it comes out slow and boring at times, the point when they all hook up to the end MORE than makes up for it. 9-12 is more solid out of the gate, but it never gains momentum like 9-22 does.

I just spent the past 32 minutes listening to both the IT Ya Mar and the CCCC 12/8/99 Ya Mar. It was a few minutes longer, but CCCC was more interesting, better, and way more psychedelic. I stand by my statement. :) :phish:

perhaps its just within my circle then that a clear distinction is made between fall 99 and what is referred to as the december run... either way, i think the music itself is vastly different
Agree with the CCCC Ya Mar. I remember being behind the stage for that section of set 1 and thinking that Fishman was killing it on his kit for Ya Mar. I'll need to go back and listen again.
Overall 99 was a lost year for me and Phish. Saw a bunch of shows but nothing really jumped out as exceptional. I think 2000 as a whole was much better but you all might disagree.
I just took the Gin challenge. Both are monsters; can't believe I wasn't more familiar with them. It's too early to declare a winner but I'll respectfully disagree with Mar about 9/12 not being notable.
And I do have to say, I miss this guitarist.
The Sand and Ghost from 9/22 both smoke too.

In the spirit of fairness, and recognizing that I
am biased by having attended IT but none of December '99, I'll do the same. Not to mention I'm between jobs and my shoes are worn out from so much pounding pavement. But I don't have a listening copy of 12/8/99 ready at hand.

IT version is way better. That 12/8/99 was pretty straight forward to me.
Although I can see the sense behind the comparison, 12/8/99 just doesn't measure up to IT, imo.
