It's not a great film but it is a great period piece, imo.  Sofia's direction seems quite fresh and Kirsten does an admirable job.

I like the way she mixed contemporary music with the period dance and costumes.

Me too - but Moulin Rouge did that better.

rowjimmy

begrudgingly, I'll concede that you are correct.

They did it to very different effects.

ugh, I couldn't make it through Moulin Rouge, kind of reminded me of watching Sound of Music on mushrooms, which is not my idea of a good time.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

I thought I would HATE Moulin Rouge... Have to admit that I didn't though.

Hate is a very strong word.

Moulin Rouge was a brilliant film.  Baz Luhrmann is a genius.

Stranger than Fiction. Pretty good movie IMHO.

You're entitled to your opinion but I'm going to laugh at it.

agreed - Moulin Rouge was a great film

my wife saw his interpretation of La Boheme on Broadway and thought it was awesome. Never did make it to film, though

agreed.

I watched I heart Huckabee's yesterday, and that is one of my favorite movies of all time.  I love how it dissects existentialism, and at the same time it some what mocks it.
Can we talk about the Dead?  I'd love to talk about the fucking Grateful Dead, for once, can we please discuss the Grateful FUCKING Dead!?!?!?!

no amount of psychedelics could make julia roberts look like nicole kidman for me.

How does Julia Roberts factor into this?
