I kinda love that place for them. The Joy was always sofa king packed on the floor. I can see having tons of room off to the side or back at Mardi Gras World.

Damn it. That's true too. I knwo ti was packed, but we always found a way to work are way to some dancing space. But the sides and back here should def allow for more dancing room...

Poster is Fats by Terrance Osborne - which is killing me because I was done buying JF Posters after the Meters poster last year, but I have EVERY T. Osborne JF poster and I really should keep that trend going... but I have NO PLACE to put it and a wife who is very much done with me buying JF Posters... FML!!!

Also, Congo poster is Big Freedia! BWAHAHA!! I don't know why that's funny, but it is. It's a hilarious poster. I love it.

Yeah man, I hear you, first weekend def looks better this year than second, but that's the gamble you take. But I think the night shows will make up for that. I'll be there the 3rd thru 7th...looking at grabbing jrad tickets too, but wasn't sure which night I wanted to go, but I'll grab first night now then as well. I think Dave has tickets for both nights. But with so much music to see, I don't want to spend both Friday and Saturday at JRAD. We'll see, I'm sure, you're an experienced jazzfester at this point, you know about the grids....but in case you don't keep a look out here:

http://www.jazzfestgrids.com/second_weekend/

and those will fill in as more and more clubs add shows over the next few months....

ETA: friday night jrad tickets secured.

Also, the Big Freedia poster is......something.

Nice! That dude is a machine all week. Just browsing through the grids, hes gotta play like 2-4 shows a day.
I might hit up that M&Ms show at One Eyed Jacks on 5/3 too. The worship my organ with Kamasi sit in last year was def a highlight of the weekend so might do that on Friday night again.

Yeah, I'm looking at hittin gup Dr. Klaw post JRAD friday night.

And even though I've sworn off late night shows, I'm thinking Greyboy at Tips late night Saturday...hard to resist.

Then again, as the grids fill up, more and more options will become available, so who knows.

I think so, Gonna be a rager! Still up to walk over the Howlin wolf after for that late late night too.
Yeah been checking into the grids every week for updates, just saw that dump above today. Good stuff!!

Wed going to be a marathon, so far the plan is Crawfish Fest > my boi Kermit Ruffins at Little Gem! > Daze Between Band > John Medeski's Mad Skillet
Down to check out whatever Thursday night after the fest.

Not getting there til late Wednesday evening, around 11pm, but the plan was to check into our spot, and then head straight to john medeski's mad skillet at maison...

Thursday looking at daze between band, hadn't seen that dead blues, but that looks enticing too, and dead feat but I don't like the Republic as a venue, so leaning heavy towards GPJr and Johnny V at the Maple Leaf ...seems like a pretty standard way to start night time festing for meh...

Friday jrad, then dr. klaw
Saturday KDTU, then greyboy allstars
Sunday, hasn't been announced yet, but dumpstaphunk at tips is a solid way to close out.

Now, ALL of that could change about 300 times between now and then, but that's what todays plans look like.  :hereitisyousentimentalbastard

For most of these aftershows, should one be concerned with them selling out? Or is so much going on that it's not so much an issue?

Some will never sell out. Some will sell out hours before.  Some will sell weeks before. It really depends.

So the only times I've missed a day at the fairgrounds is when they had that other fest going on over at mardi gras world, and even then that day at the fest was a little weak in the line-up. And sitting here I was thinking about ordering day tickets before prices go up Friday, and was actually debating only going three days and skipping Saturday, cause it's always the most crowded, and thats looking like the weakest in terms of things I'd like to see...dave...convince me I'm wrong to consider missing a day.

HA! Ok, sold. I had astral project, corey henry, and dumsptaphunk, and kermits louis tribute, and big chief and high steppers...but yeah....ok, ok, I'm in. That was a ridiculous moment, I'm glad passed quickly.

Apparently, my Jazzfest diet includes eating all the things and drinking all the beers to get my stomach nicely stretched out so it's prepared for me to eat all the things and drink all the beers once I get to NOLA.

For sure, I'm seeing John Medeski et al on Maison on the 1st (the day I arrive), and the Herbie Hancock tribute and the Prince tribute at Maison on the 6th.

In between, will be winging it, mostly. Can't wait.

Solid selections. Another solid show at the maison is the Fiya Powa Thursday 2am show...went to that a couple years ago, they oversold tickets, and so you had to wait outside for awhile, but once you got in, it was pretty great.

I've officially given up looking at the grids, and am just gonna go where the nights take me. Other than JRAD of course.

You need a ticket to that Fiya Power show at maison tomorrow night? I have an extra vip ticket. I'll be there for sure. I'll be at the Nola crawfish fest before it.

Thanks, but coming from the west coast, I'll be up damn early to catch my flight, and will likely need some sleep that first night.

While slow to start (without the rest of the band's vocals), this 46 Days is no slouch.
