Really?  While I don't often throw down for these, because of my schedule, I think it's great that the band does this for the fans.  What's not to like?

I agree with khalpin...

Yup and while I have yet to purchase a webcast (and have no plans to do so), I still think it's a good move on their part.  There are obviously enough phans out there buying these, that they continue to roll them out.

Any given show is more likely to suck than be mindfuckingly stellar these days. Cameras rolling or not doesn't really seem to matter.

Would you have said the same if you'd paid for the Sunday show?

such a money grab. good for them

And...I enjoy them when I can.

I really wish they would just provide an audio only option ala Super Ball.

I don't really see it this way. There is a core group of fans who want this. Phish can do it and turn a modest profit... or at least cover the cost of having cameras there to capture every show streamed or not.

If this were a money grab, you'd see them cracking down on all the youtube vids you see out there. They haven't even gone after those posting full shows captured from these streams. That's surprising. It dilutes the supply of live Phish video. If I know I can get the rip of the webcast for free within a day or two then I really don't need to pay for the live cast. But enough people pay for it to turn a nice little profit and Phish would rather have fans see their shows than not.

Much like tapes did in days past, I think Phish sees the rise of youtubes as great marketing to drive attendance to their shows. Hence, the "official" vimeo releases of key tracks from each night of tour.
