what's that you say?
that fucked up trippy dark theme so stunned you you may only recover through listening to the most perfect, beautiful theme ever played?
okay then.
i here offer you the cure.
the encore theme from 9.12.99, the show from which you recently enjoyed the brilliant half hour ghost courtesy of august.
this theme does nothing unusual, it just does theme, perhaps more perfectly than any other version.
(do you have a counter-argument? please sendspace...)

Here is a cool Soundcheck Jam from 5Dec.92, Chicago.  It stuck out in that I could hear 2001 in this jam>4/4 time, key of C(unless my axe is out).  A good 8 months before the debut of 2001, this is a solid 6 min. jam:

there isn't a distinct tease anywhere, I mean't the jam as a whole is very similar to 2001 minus the cadences.

this is in response to suseps recent listening to a ton of Fall '92 shows except 11/20/92 from The Palace Theater in Albany, NY, which i believe is one smoker of a show.  This is the Reba from that show, and is my all-time favorite (landing a few steps ahead of 8/7/93).  The band is ON, and everybody does little things in it that make it new and unique.  Its not crazy long, it is a finished version however, but i believe this version to be the ultimate distillation of the essence of all that is Reba: no frills, no bullshit; every note and chord has a reason, and was meant to be placed where it was.  I guess a better, shorter description would be "focused".  This is the most focused Reba i have ever heard.  Im not saying that this is the best Reba, i havent heard every one, but out of all that i have heard, i believe this is the most focused and emotional; the last 20 seconds or so before Fish brings it to a close with his tom fill are the most soulful 20 seconds of guitar playing that i have EVER heard Trey play.  He makes his guitar weep beautifully in those last few phrases...  ugh.  its genius.  See for yourself.  I'm very interested to see what you guys have to say about this version.

Can we talk about the Dead?  I'd love to talk about the fucking Grateful Dead, for once, can we please discuss the Grateful FUCKING Dead!?!?!?!

ok the reba that was posted from the gorge got me feeling sentimental about the bowie from the same show... it's probably my favorite bowie (i'm not going to claim it's "the best" because i haven't heard every bowie and i'm not qualified to make that statement even if i had)

the jam is incredibly focused in this one.  the groove is very tight and builds to a very distinct climax.  i'm really a fan of phish jams where i don't hear many wasted notes or extraneous outbursts by trey.  this is definitely one of those jams!  the whole band is together and playing as a unit.  this one also happens to have been the first live bowie that i heard, about 7 years ago... probably a big reason that i like it so much, but everyone should be able to appreciate it. enjoy!

i converted 1997-07-01 to mp3 to send to a friend who is living at a college that gives him only 10 kB/s from the internet (bs if you ask me)

i put it up on sendspace for him, and figured i might as well put it up here just in case any of you have any interest.. top notch show, all around!

Here is a Bathtub Gin that not many people talk about, but it is certainly one of my favorites. A glaring omission from the Gin Cup?
