Is it possible for me to delete every post that I've ever made here without doing it individually?  And without eliminating my account?

Thanks,

Faux.

guyforget

its not something you could do on your own.

why would you want to do this?

its not something you could do on your own.

why would you want to do this?

Mostly due to privacy issues since it's a public board.  I know I should of thought about that before I came here, but I'm sure that I've said things vis a vis legalities that I might not want on the internet.

Secondary issue is to clean the slate.

guyforget

is someone following you?

the easiest thing you could do is delete the account and start over.

i do not have a built in function to prune posts by a specific user.  i could possibly do it manually in the database, but i have had iffy, at best, results in doing database maintenance myself.  not that i dont understand the database, but the forum seems to prefer it when i use its built in functions to do database maintenance.  i have f'd things up before by making changes and expecting the forum to just accept them.  in the end, if it starts throwing errors, id just delete the account anyway so nothing would be saved.

as far as cleaning the slate, i mean, i can appreciate the sentiment, but your strongest detractors arent going to relent simply because your posts are gone.

if there is a legitimate security concern on your end, then i guess thats for you to consider.

if you were to delete the account and register a new one by the same name, i could probably edit your "joined on" date so that it would still look like youve been here since 2006-03-16.  thats probably the most assistance i could offer on this one.

and, even if you delete the account wont delete the posts...

at least, not in my experience w/ people deleting accounts.  cant say ive ever done it.

im sure if i axed the account on my end, id get the option to delete all posts.

and, even a "register to view" forum is still public...  anyone can join and view.

I know everything that you're referring to.

I don't think anyone is following me specifically for that reason, but I feel as though I've put too much personal info out there already and I should have thought about that more carefully.

As far as cleaning the slate is concerned, I feel like you are exactly correct, but it was more a sideproduct of keeping sensitive information off the internet.

However, it would be nice to have the freedom to not have people referred to my posts behind my back without me being consulted or available to defend myself.

Thanks for answering my questions, I'm not requesting it to be done, yet.

However, if it is a simple and unencumbering process for your hardware, I might be prone to ask to both keep my join date and screenname and have all of my old posts deleted only to repost my last posted poll (because I'm rather proud of it).  I'd be sad, because I'm sure I'd lose some good discussions, however I feel as tho it is a fair request and is truly not born out of a motivation to hide my past from paugers perse, but to hide my personal info from those who might seek to abuse it.

if i delete the account and delete all of the posts associated with it, you should be fine in registering a new account by the same name.

the search function is pretty effective when you search by user.  you could search your username for words and terms that youre uncomfortable with and delete those individually.

Thanks for the info.  What you're saying about search and username is fairly accurate.  I might switch to FauxPasFauxReal or something if I decide to do that.

Thanks for the mediation and everything you've done this week, I'm pretty solid and thinking that might just be the last faux related meltd0wn.  I was amazed that the meltd0wn portion happened to begin with, but I guess it is understandable.

I hope alls well in your neck of the woods and you weren't effected by that school shooting I heard about today.
:-(

sad and unfortunate for a myriad of reasons, but at least nobody is dead over it.  no personal connection between us and that incident besides that we live relatively close by, though.

I agree.  The most depressing part about Virginia Tech to me is that the shooter roamed for so long.  I'm glad we're starting to take more notice and better care.  Especially with VT, I thought it was inexcusable for the type and level of school it is.

There's no reason a top level technical university shouldn't have better security.

That's just plain lazyness.

Thanks again, Guy.

Another question. If I were to want to ignore an entire section of posts so that I never see them, is it possible?

For instance, I HATE the sex/pron dealio red light district dealio and DON'T WANT TO SEE THOSE THREADS WHEN I'M PAUGING.

NOTHING IS MORE EMBARRASSING FOR ME than when I'm babysitting for my cousins children and they think i'm looking at porn because they see "chicks with big eyes" or "blonde ambition 97" or whatever thread pop up.

I've been searching for this function and can't find it.  I hate the RLD here and I want to ignore something unless I choose to enter it.

Any help/suggestioWns?

guyforget

paug makes no promises to be kid friendly.  nobody under 13 is allowed to register.  nsfw threads are noted as such.  if you want to ignore those threads, like i do, youll just have to avoid opening them, like i do.

Sweetness, just thought I would ask.

Faux, this can all be solved if you'll just pm me your ssn, credit card information and a digital scan of your fingerprints.  ;)
