Quotenext we seem to have struck a chord with you regarding health care. our system of health care is, indeed, absolutey greatrich people will be fine, don't worry. -- assuming you're rich. if you actually think creating a national health care system to make sure everyone, however poor, is covered, would somehow affect the level of care given to rich people, then you haven't been paying attention. and our poor, underpaid doctors will be fine, too. insurance companies? hmm, maybe not so much. but since it's those very companies making health care such a disaster currently, i'm not going to shed a tear. since you, too, are against big corporations, i'm not sure what your beef is. is it the word 'socialism'? how about we call it something else? are you okay with the absurd burden put on small businesses to provide health coverage for their employees? why should businesses be in charge of that anyway?

The whole point of that "rant" was my concern for the poor and how "national" health coverage would give them the shaft.  The best options seems to be to break down the insurance companies regionally (like a bank) and allow any citizen national coverage, by creating more competition it slash the prices and force the insurance companies to actually care for their customers.  Creating a better system in my opinion.  The poor will be able to afford coverage, and every one will receive humane treatment.

Quotekatrina. right. bush screwed up, but it didn't have to do with race. it's nice how you know the mind of another human being. i feel so reassured about that disaster now. indeed-- the weather doesn't hate black people! har har har! what a devastating argument! i have been smacked down! ouch! but seriously, if you actually believe the katrina response would have been the same had those people been white and rich, you are again living in a fantasy world. i don't know what bush thinks about black people and neither do you. but i can sure as hell see the difference in treatment of poor people versus rich people by him and his administration.
That was a smart ass comment, not an argument.  So cutting taxes, and having the lowest unemployment in 40 years must suck for the poor (the unemployment rate is at 4.2 %).  Mind you, the oracle known as Clinton, cut welfare in the 90's, but Clinton is worshipped as if he is the poor's messiah. Bush has yet to cut any welfare, or reform it.  It is Clinton's policy.
Bush's faults lie in international decisions, and "constitutional" issues.  His religious agenda bothers me, but the damage can be undone.

Quotewhoa there mr. pacifist freak! get a hair-cut, hippie!
yes, that dean is an unhinged loon. thank god bush was in charge when it counted. a 'lasting peace'! ha ha ha! why would anyone worry about that? i think bushco has certainly proven wrong every single one of dean's loony-tunes worries about the war.
i didn't say that and you know that.  My problem with Dean lies in his belief, like Kerry, that we need international approvel to act.

shit, I have to get to work, I'll finish my post later (Matt I'll respond to your comment later  :-) )
Can we talk about the Dead?  I'd love to talk about the fucking Grateful Dead, for once, can we please discuss the Grateful FUCKING Dead!?!?!?!

the unemployment rate doesn't tell us much.
we have a government geared exclusively towards making the rich richer and poor poorer.
cutting taxes helps the poor? HA HA HA HA HA!
yeah, that $100 check they got must really be awesome!
i mean, i'm sure the whole cutting taxes thing didn't matter to the hugely wealthy.

regarding the dean speech, i put that up since my original point about dean is that regardless of how he sometimes goes about making his points-- which admittedly aren't going to help him get elected in the current political atmosphere-- his actual views, such as those on the iraq war, are not at all 'far-left' and crazy, which is how they were treated at the time. when he made that speech in '03, he was considered a loon. today, everything he said is treated as common knowledge.

cutting taxes does help the poor.  instead of taking 30+ % of that 100, the government only takes 20+ %.
See the eighties for how the poor became the expanded middle class.  There is a reason why the majority of economists favor capitalist methods and not socialist ideology, less taxes = more money in your pocket.  It does help, but without taxes, the socialists have no money for their "handout" programs.

name one person you know who gets minimum wage.  you can't.  less than 2% of the population receives minimum wage; therefore, your point is moot.  The people who do receive minimum wage are most likely in high school and don't pay bills.  So again, tax cuts do help Americans (wait and see, the new dem congress will cut taxes, they need to in order to secure the 2008 presidency).

edit to add: I'll check the links you provided in the morning.  thanks for posting them.
