nice, I read McLaughlin wasn't too terribly impressed w/ this session but historically speaking, a nice nugget.

Plus, several of the other tracks have been released officially on the 1980 "Message From The Universe" LP [Polydor 2311 016 / 1980 / New Zealand / 1LP]

The 1st track (The "Hendrix/McLaughlin Jam) remains unreleased to this day.

So I listened to this last night and the sound quality is excellent.  The first track, which is a long jam, is pretty good.  I noticed one thing though, during some of the "free form" sections Jimi sounded out of his element, and a bit lost.  During the "blues" section John seemed out of his element and Hendrix really shined.  This recording also shows why Hendrix is Hendrix, and why he rarely played with other guitarists.  He continually steps on McLaughlin's toes and offers him little room to groove or expand upon any themes.  Also, Jimi's use of the pentatonic scale sounds really misplaced over John's funk based jazz chords.  Jimi does hold his own though, but I think McLaughlin comes off sounding like the more polished musician, while Hendrix displays his raw energy and soul throughout his playing.
