That sounds like the way to do it!

They should just announce entire tour webcast packages.

The whole North East. Clearly they want to pack the Glen. Plus, much bigger profit margin if +60,000 show up at the Glen and they avoid splitting that audience amongst several venues.

So, possibly ATL, Raleigh and maybe even MPP1.

So the austin 360 amphitheater is pretty cool. It's in the infield of our Formula 1 track. The Dallas venue is indoors. I think it's the only indoor show of the tour.  Also the smallest or one of the smallest of the tour. I'm not sure I'll be able to do Dallas since its midweek. We shall see.

5 hours is not that far.... at all....

It'd probably take you like, only 5 hours or so.  Maybe 10 total there and back.

:smoke:

Yeah. And it's not like you have to go to Maryland or some bullshit like that.

Put on your big boy pants, dig your balls out of Dagny's purse, and go see a show.

Yeah.

I can wear my big boy pants, or I can have my balls. I'm not allowed to to have both at the same time.

She mentioned that she'd spend the weekend at a Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen 25 minutes from Magnaball, she's been wanting to visit it for a while now. I'm not sure how serious she was, but I'm gonna try to convince her that it's a good idea and that we can afford it.

Dear Phish,
Remember Deer Creek? It's still there.
That is  all.

Phish hasn't played my home arena in 15 years and I still see shows..

Yep, the closest Phish has played to my house in 2.0 and 3.0 is two hours away.  I get stoked about anything less than five hours away at this point.

Basically all new food stands. Big bathrooms and a courtyard area around both sides that faces into the pavilion. They are tryin to make some art installments too on the walks in in that symphony of woods forest. And then next summer the pavilion will be raised some for better site lines.

Every year I've been to Dick's I've stayed at the Doubletree.  It's a short cab ride away and the beds are really comfortable.

I should never trust the internet on 4/1 but Phish posted this today:

Lawn tickets to a number of venues available directly from the band in case you a) don't want to deal with TM/LN/etc. and b) didn't get enough lawns in your Mail Order.

seems like a lot of work for a joke,  I clicked all the way to the payment page.  Albeit, getting someone to enter all that info and then deny them is pretty funny (if true).  I didn't want to go past that in the event it is serious.  As I got one lawn ticket, and that's enough for me

Anyone ever go to the box office at Merriweather.  I'm thinking this might be the only way to get decent seats.

I should never trust the internet on 4/1 but Phish posted this today:
http://phish.com/news/summer-2015-lawn-tickets-available-in-real-time/

Lawn tickets to a number of venues available directly from the band in case you a) don't want to deal with TM/LN/etc. and b) didn't get enough lawns in your Mail Order.

In other news these are the shows that tickets will be on the ground for.  But you can pay face right here through Phish.
I thought they did this last summer too but maybe not.

They did do this last summer.

Note: the Saturday MPP show did sell out though (and has the past like 3 years)
don't get stuck outside. watched someone buy lawns for 100 dollars each in 2013

Looks like I'll have to buy my Dick's fields this Saturday as I got shut out.  I've had luck scoring fields every year under face the day of the show but I'm not camping this year so I'll have less access to extras.. Also, I've graduated from the collegiate world, and I'm employed, so I feel like it's the right thing to do.

Yes, I went to the box office for Santana/Phish in '92 and got great seats.  An hour before the show started.  :-P

Well as much as I wish it was still 1992 and I could go to the box office the day before onsale and get my wristband that guarantees me tickets I don't think that'll work.

Think I'm going to hit the MPP box office tomorrow morning between 7-8 and hope for the best.

Pulled a Tuscaloosa pit in the onsale.  Really easy

Also, new TM system autoloads when the onsale time hits.  No need to refresh, and if you do, it kicks back.  I figured that out with the mann onsale.  Just a FYI.  Get to the event screen and let it auto load.  You'll be in first.

So torn between a couple runs this summer...
I took the PTO time and got the flights for Raleigh > Mpp its easy got places to stay at all locations and cheap flight

I can either take 2 more days PTO for Texas run which would be fun new venues, cheap tickets, got places to stay there too, but is mid week

or take those 2 days to do Magnaball which would take a little more planning to get there and more money but its a phish fest
and im def doing dicks so it would be 3 weekends in a row of phish (going to be lots of repeats) or split it up between texas and ral > mpp, dicks

OR alpine is also in the cards havent been there yet and have a ride and place to stay there

decisions, decisions

Without a doubt.

seems like the consensus is in. About to book flights for Magnaball. Anyone driving from the midwest? Would be awesome to fly into Cleveland its on the way and a cheap roundtrip or other possibility is Rochester

I'm driving to Cleveland from Minneapolis and picking up my friend Tait there, then we are heading to NY

If you need a ride, I got you

You realize that if you ride with GBL you have to bring your running shoes.  We are running a 5K every morning.

ETA:  Has anybody else started getting their tickets for MB?

Maybe a few weeknight shows like The Mann

Rehearsal from Portland:

QuoteBummed is what you are... when you strike out on Bend tickets and have to work out of state during those shows anyway. So when a friend let me know Phish was rehearsing in Portland this weekend, I instantly fell into a unshakeable daydream to sneak into the Moda Center for a sonic balm for my disappointment. And somehow the universe made it happen! I practically walked right in, with my son no less! We inconspicuously watched Phish practice for an hour and a half. An incredible experience, to say the least. Without giving away too much, I can't help but report that they are definitely about to unleash some new material (which sounded very strong). And some of their loose jams veered into Dead material. I heard China Cat Flower>IKYR and Estimated Prophet for sure. I don't know what that means, but they could easily go that direction, at least in teases, should it strike their fancy. I can't wait to find out. So excited for Summer Tour 2015!

Just took a spin around the venue.  This has to be one of the coolest places to see phish!  It's basically a town park with views of mountains and the deschutes river.  It's right in town.  Like rei, Victoria secret, etc are a 1 minute walk from the venue.  There are beer gardens and restaurant patios that have better views of the stage than certain spots inside large sheds.

Had a chance to listen to all the new tunes.  Here's my review:

Blaze On - No.

Shade - Wut.

No Men - I see they've added lyrics to "Generic 3.0 Funk Jam"

How Many People are You - Hope the next time we hear this is on MGB tour.

Heavy Rotation - Stahp.

Scabbard - Sure, why not.

Mercury - I can dig it.

Hey PG,

I also did most of the summer tour 95, starting at Utah and ending at 6/17 Northern VA.

We caravaned across the US in about 3 or 4 cars.

I remember hanging out with 2 cool dudes from West VA for most of the tour.   One of the guys was literally mute, he never talked as far as I know.

Texas is a much more dry and manageable heat. In our humid heat it feels like you're drowning in the hot air you're breathing.

and a farmhouse encore!   :rawk:

set II looks good on paper.

That second set was fun. Can't wait to hear the first and now I'm really pumped for the Tweezer that's going down tomorrow night.

Happy birthday, Tahoe

When it comes to appreciating music, it's all about teh feelz. Oh yeah, and if you weren't at the show, you have no business commenting on it. You just don't get IT, brah.

This whole post reads like a really long subtweet at Aug.

Protip: if you let someone else's opinion of your experience change how you feel about it, you're doing it wrong.

Stealing Time

I’ve never heard Phish play the way they are playing right now. Glimpses yes, the odd show here and there. Sometimes a run. But this? No. This is something else entirely. This is the tour we’ve been waiting for. Hands down. The stars are all aligned. Full shows. Set to Set. Intention, communication, energy and drive. Confidence and strength tempered by maturity and professionalism. Here is what matters: This band is on fire. See as much Phish as possible. That’s the only rule right now. Cause it has begun. It is SO fucking on.

I may never seen the likes of this but I know many fans have, way back when. It mattered then but now has become something else entirely, a corruption, a veil that obscures our view of the present and our appreciation of the now.

We can spend all the time we want determining why Phish is so exciting right now, or how, or in what fashion, but our chances of understanding, as always are slim. We do the best we can and say, it was Trey practicing for Fare Thee Well. Or that Mike’s cross-country tour similarly fired him up. Or that Page and Fish have reached new levels of comfort and grace with their lives and families, their positions.

Maybe it was Wingsuit or the JEMP set, maybe it was some private conversation between the four of them. Maybe it’s just experience and luck. Or maybe its just that Phish as a band has resigned themselves to the fact that this band and their music is the greatest thing they’ll ever be involved with, and have therefore determined to make the most of it every single year that they can. . Maybe it is an agglomeration of all of these things and a thousand other factors. We are different year over year. Our creativity and passion ebbs and flows, along with our healthy and emotional wellbeing. Life happens man.

Either way, this is their legacy and now, with hindsight and tragedy receding they have a unique opportunity to write their own history, on their own terms, in their own books. Maybe it’s to help the future cause of rock and roll. Fare Thee Well taught us much about legacies and histories and the power of community and how central our music is to all of it. How crucial the Grateful Dead were to rock and roll, how their career arc matched rock’s step for step, if not exactly following the same path. I am sure Trey was there with his eyes and ears wide open, and not just on stage. Maybe Phish sees an opening to one-up even the Dead by getting better and staving off stangation. Maybe its what we fans bring to the shows that inspires them just as they inspire us.

What we are privy too — the music — is all that matters, night after night. And right now this is the best I’ve ever heard Phish play. It’s the new songs and setlist freshness. It’s the tightness of the material young and old. It’s the listening and the improvisation. It’s the new effects and the old ones, its the cities or the towns, it’s the water or the heat or the bagels. Who knows, who CARES, just go see Phish.

I rolled into Dallas on a whim, booking a short multi-city run during the Forum “YEM.” My flight was confirmed before Trey yelled BOY! That show was huge, perhaps not as elegant and unified as Shoreline but then again, who cares about comparing shows or ranking jams? I was there and saw Trey singlehandedly gunning for the stars, not something I am overall used to seeing. But that might be changing. For the record I also watched Trey become increasingly frustrated on stage towards the end of the Dallas show, facing real problems in the composed section of “Hood,” as well as “The Connection” and “First Tube,” encore. He ran off stage as fast he could once “First Tube” ended, clearly happy to be done playing music for the evening. Didn’t matter though because the seamlessness of “Steam” in the first set, and the grandiosity of “Chalkdust” carried through.

This is art and not fantasy. Want to rank? Fine, just don’t think you are doing anything other than blogging without the words, feeling or emotion. The tendency of fans to immediately start thinking in terms of rank and order and classification is one of the most obscene aspects of our community, starting even before shows end. Or even jams. I understand the compulsion but the affect is toxic. Some compulsions should be restrained. Quite simply, it takes people out of the FEELING and back into the thinking. This is wrong. It’s foolhardy and tedious and robs people of their experience.

When I leave shows now, all I care about is capturing the feeling of it. Do I have it? Do I own it? Did I get what I came for? The truth is that if your head is in the right place, you ALWAYS get what you come for, even if its different than what you wanted or expected.

Right now I feel full. Full enough not to care one fig that I am heading back home for 10 days, capturing what work I can before heading back East for the MPP > Magna run. My first night at Dicks was 4 years ago, and my face got fucked so hard that I decided to dedicate large portions of my life, love, energy and treasure to integrating with this band. Heck, I moved to Colorado because of Phish. That’s an investment still paying huge dividends for me.

I’ll tell you what though, the way I felt leaving both Dallas and Atlanta each night, same fucking thing. Different in texture, but alike in power. Same as 8/31/12. Same as Tahoe or Hampton. I felt full. I felt revelatory. I felt spiritual and in love and happy and enthusiastic. Were these shows as “good” or “great” as FYF? Don’t know, don’t care. But they felt exactly the same. It’s the same feeling. Three shows in a row. Yep! The rivers of cynicism dry up rather quickly on Phish Tour.

Ranking shows takes this feeling and obscures it, tries to codify and assign. It’s fabricated, arbitrary and false. It’s a giant lie.

The real reason people still rank is to assert their power. Once things are ranked, there is order and once order is established you can slice and dice and mix and match. Somone has to write the list. Someone has to create the divisions. Then, you can tell people they were at a “bad show” or saw a “subpar” jam. This is the most offensive and heinous thing occurrence, fans telling other fans that their show was not as great as they felt it was. Makes them doubt themselves. Once it is done, once the tweets and qualifications start spreading, it is too late. I’ve had it happen to me in the past. It’s theft plain and simple.

Webcasts, Streams and live show downloads are excellent substitutes but we should never fool ourselves that they stand in for the real experience. Every stream buffer or break, every skipped song in a car ride obscures the show, obscure the nature of the energy inherent to that show. Practiced ears still can never place the feeling of a room, a section, a city, a town, a lot, a concession line. If you aren’t in the room, your opinion means about as much as a burlap sack full of moldy potatoes. I don’t care how many shows you’ve seen or years you’ve been with the band.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the instant Phish plays a classic show, those not in attendance dutifully get to work cutting the show down. It’s natural of course; they weren’t there and you better believe they are going to envy those that were. Notice that the people who spend most of their time ranking are older fans NOT in attendance, desperate to assert their control — their own rank — over the community. They long ago gave up on the band.

This is the year to fight back and stand athwart this tendency yelling — or politely whispering — STFU.

After Friday night, a friend, @SuzyDrano, tweeted “Having a hard time objectively evaluating that show.” I did an instant double take.

Why would someone want to objectively evaluate a show like Friday night in Atlanta within minutes of the show ending? The mere fact that Suzy was having a hard time evaluating the show was because it was SO GOOD. Because the feeling that she (was trying to forget) was overwhelming her, filling her up. And yet Suzy was on her way to robbing herself of her own subjective experience in order to list and classify. Something she felt a duty to do even without her WANTING to.

It was one of the best Phish show’s I’ve ever been to, and doubtless many other fans who either attended, watched, listened, or have since heard the show, possibly feel the same way. Suzy’s tweet, and I assure you I am not picking on her as I’ve seen this same thing occur a thousand times, reveals a pathology very much alive in our community. The need to have the feeling that is produced for us by this band confirmed by others. We want to know that we belong, that what we just felt was also felt by others and through that connection we are made even more human, more brotherly or sisterly, more transparent to the people who love what we love.

But instead, we too often find exclusionary behavior. We find ranking and classification by people who can only compare, but refuse to feel. It’s a shame. But there is an antidote to this poison. Tune the motherfuckers out. With every tweet and aside they reveal themselves as bankrupt and pedantic. It has no place in Phish, especially now, as we are right in the middle of what will likely be one of the best Phish tours of all time. [jimbo: that's right, not of 3.0, not post-hiatus, of ALL TIME] That is how great this band sounds right now. Don’t let anyone rob you of this Summer, most especially your own self.

I feel like someone does this every tour.
"they are at the peak"
"best tour of 3.0"

I think the shows so far have shown promise that they are indeed playing better than they have been within the first 8 shows of tour. But as the steam builds, and the tour ends all this will go to nothing since they will not be touring anymore this year and just have 4 shows around NYE and then probably another 6-7 month break.

Sets I would go back and re listen to so far this summer:
7/22 set 2
7/24 set 2
7/31 set 2
8/1 set 2

Not saying these sets are the best of 3.0 or anything but they are listenable, which is actually a good bit I think compared to last tours.
Haven't listened to 8/2 at all yet, but they are keeping things fresh with the new material and jamz and even bringing back the gimmicks with the rotation jams and what not seems like it would be fun to be on this tour so far.

I don't think I have to point out the humor of him going back and forth between saying how ludicrous it is to rank and compare Phish and saying how Phish has never sounded better and this could be their best tour.

(But I pointed it out anyway.)

I don't know about a lot of the shit that guys says.  As Matt pointed out, I'm guessing the drugs haven't worn off, and he's got really good shit too.  I think they are playing well, and this is a more consistent and better sounding tour than they have had in years.  I haven't heard anything that quantifies or qualifies as a best of in terms of versions.  At the same time, I guess I don't really think you need that rationalization because of the consistency.  I think a lot of that before was out there to justify the vast amount of really badly played shows, which if we are honest, is close to a super majority of what they did 2009 through a lot of 2014.  I think '14 had more consistency, but at the same time is still on that same level as the rest of the era.  I do think its great I can actually put on these tapes from summer '15, and it sounds good enough that I will actually re-listen to shows from this tour.  That makes me happy.

I'm on Tuscaloosa right now, and I couldn't be happier through the Atlanta run with how they played.  Sure flubs are prevalent in some songs, but its not nearly like it was before.  I think, and as one of the biggest "haters" on this board, they have fucking finally turned a corner for the better.  And I think there isn't a going back.  I figure the NYE run will sound like the start of this tour, some rust, and some highlights.  I figure next summer will be the same, some time to shake off some rust, and if they do a fall tour, I'd make plans to hit that hard (if you can - good odds my ass will be house and wedding broke).

When August tell me that 6/25/00 sucks that doesn't ruin my experience of that show.

One of the awesome things about being a Phish fan or Deadhead is having your rankings and discussing them with other people.  I don't think the GuyUtica show sucked because I wasn't there, I think it sucked because it's a slopfest with lots of energy.  I don't think 12/6/97 is an amazing show because I was there, I think it's amazing because when you play it back it sucks you in and makes you want to listen to more.

I can't help but play this card here so forgive me, but to put things in perspective, he's been seeing shows for 3 years... so the author is missing the comparative perspective of 17+ years of shows to me (way more to some others), good and bad, highs and lows.

Dude was getting pretty defensive on Twitter the other day too. Saying things like "Some people have a vested interest in not letting any show be better than the 90s" or some BS.

The sensitivity of people who never saw Phish before 2009 towards those who have is pretty hilarious to me. I get it, it's never fun to have old people telling you things were so much better back in their day. But to bitch about how they are depriving - stealing was his word, I think - you of your own experiences is just fucking sad.

So evaluating the musical content of a Phish show outside the context of the concert is "obscene" "heinous" and "offensive"?

I think we may have found a new benchmark for an entitled brat whining about first world problems.

Look, I like feeling "the vibe" at a show as much as the next w00k, seriously I do, but I love music too and one way for me to express that is to listen at home and objectively analyze it, or at least attempt to do so.  There's nothing wrong with that and in fact not only is the intellectual component of the Phish community one of things that makes it unique, but attempting to sort out the nuts and bolts of the mystical is a tradition that goes back thousands of years to rabbinical commentary and similar deconstructions of sacred texts.  I for one am proud to carry on that tradition as it applies to my own interests and experiences.

Pretty similar for me.

I think I give Atlanta1 an edge because the first set in Nashville was useless while Lakewood had that Ghost and tight (albeit straightforward) Mike's Groove. I also like How Many People Are You? and any first set in the summer with a Moma Dance is alright with me. Set II goes to Nashville but it's pretty goddamned close. Shoreline comfortably in the #3 slot (still haven't heard that first set; not sure that I plan to).

Upon arrival deputies discovered 38 year old Chad Kneesel, from West Salem, WI, lying in the roadway unresponsive.  Lifesaving efforts were administered by deputies and responding medical units.  Kneesel was transported by ambulance to a local trauma center. Kneesel died a short time later.
Initial investigation indicates that a 2011 Mazda, driven by Dipen Patel from Lake Geneva, WI, was southbound on Hwy 120 and struck Kneesel who was walking in the roadway.  Patel was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated.  Evidence found at the scene indicates that Kneesel had walked away from Alpine Valley Music Theater after attending the Phish concert.  Patel was not coming from the concert.
The Walworth County Sheriff's Office crash investigation unit continues to investigate.    The Walworth County Sheriff's Office was assisted by East Troy and Mukwonago Emergency Medical Services as well as the Walworth County Medical Examiner's Office.

Some dude at Phish.net made a chart of the types of modulation going in each jam of the summer or at least the big ones.
and a nice explanation on modulation

That was some serious music-nerding out on Phish. He actually did a pretty good job of explaining things w/o getting too confusing.

Not sure about the GD comment at the end though. I'd imagine some Dark Stars and Playin' in the Bands modulate all over the place. Never really analyzed it though.
