Title: Headphones
Post by: flow00 on June 04, 2006, 10:51:37 PM
I know I've seen this discussion somewhere, maybe db.etree, but I can't find it now. I want to enhance how I hear Phish shows. When I use headphones, I use the in-ear kind that come with iPods. All kinds of external noises intrude my listening, and the quaility is blah. I want a better pair for my iPod and computer. Anyone have recommendations? I want to pay between $50 and $250, depending on the quality. I'd pass even more if there was a huge difference between a $50 pair and a $300 pair.

as we type, i have on my bose QuietComfort 2's.
they are the best headphones in the 250-300 price range.
without a doubt.

http://www.bose.com/controller?event=DTC_LINKS_TARGET_EVENT&DTCLinkID=2724&perfsourceid=k15318&src=k15318

for in ear headphones i use for running and outside of the house i use these...
Sony Fontopia.
they come with three different size rubber ear fittings which is a plus.
they also cancel a TON of outside noise.
and for 20-25 bux, they are really punchy and clear.
i highly recommend either one of these.
you can also just buy ten pairs of these instead of the bose....  :-)

if u wanna block out outside noise, do NOT get noise-cancelling headphones.  those produce this awful white noise that really kills music.  i'd recommend a pair of really good in-ear headphones, like Shure e4c (retail for $300, but you can find them for $180 online), or their cheaper $e3c, e2c....  there are many other types of headphone around, but i'm a big fan of those on my iPod.

on my computer, where i've got fewer outside noises to worry about, a good pair of open-ear headphones work best.  i use a set of Grado SR-125's, they go for about $150.  handmade in NYC, comfortable, and some of the best sound i've ever heard.  they've got models that cost well more than that, and less (same with the Shure's), but it's a good middle-of-the-road set of headphones.

there is a big difference between the ones you see for $50 and those for $300.  everything from quality of the copper in the wiring to the diaphragm makes a difference.  the only "cheap" headphones i've seen get consistently good reviews are a set of Sony's that go for about $70 (don't remember the exact model number).  people seem to love those...  never tried them myself, think they're just in-ear buds, like the Shure's.  there are plenty of audiophile sites on the web that give reviews of headphones, almost all of them steer you to the most expensive models around -- but i'll let you know, if you can't hear the difference, paying to hear the difference won't make you.   i've listened to $1,000 headphones, and they sound just as good (to me) as my $150 pair.

I use Sennheiser HD 565 Ovation over ear headphones for my careful music listening. Definately only for home use as they are 1) HUGE 2) "open" ie they are not completely enclosed. they have a grate over the outside so those around you can hear what your listening to..very bad for airplanes.
Also, they suck with the ipod, you definately need a stronger amp.  They retailed for about 250 5 years ago and I would pay it all over again if given the choice. One of the best additions to my stereo in years.

i looked at that exact pair when i was shopping for my Grados.  really enjoyed them.  the open design of the cups is what i liked the best, as it allows air to move more freely.  the Grados i ended up with have the same thing, just smaller drivers i think - nonetheless, too big for an iPod as well, that's why i use the buds.

I personally use the Sony MDR-V900's and absolutly LOVE them!

i have a pair of MDR-V600's sitting right here as my backup pair, very good headphones.  used those for about 5 years before i moved up to the Grados.  never heard the 900's myself...  i'd imagine they're even nicer.

Post by: jasonsobel on June 05, 2006, 07:27:32 PM
as others have suggested, Grado's are wonderful headphones.  I have the RS-2 headphones for home listening, and they truely are outstanding.

for portable listening, and to block out outside noise, I'd recommend a pair of etymotics.  They are similar to the shure in-ear headphones that tet recommented.  There are the more expensive er-4, and the cheaper er-6.  I have a pair of the er-6, and I paid around $80.  very good seal in your ear canal, and it really lets you hear the music.  I wear them on the subway all the time :)  and the best part is, you don't have to crank the volume and kill your hearing  :-D
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: tet on June 05, 2006, 07:58:15 PM
RS-2...  drool...

the etymotics were OK in my experience.  not a lot of bass definition, i think the Shures are much better in overall clarity and 'punch'.  i rarely have my volume over 40-50% with the Shures, except on a plane.

Thanks everyone for your help. I've decided to go with the Shure e4c and Grado SR-125s. I found the Shures for $169 here: http://www.plasmabay.com/plasma/product.asp?ref=PRCEGRAB&sku=E4

Can't wait for them to arrive.  The next step is figuring our which show I listen to first. I'm thinking August 93.

i always think it's best to test things like headphones out if possible, but i'll vouch for both of the ones i use.

How high do you have to crank the volume with the Shures when you're on a plane?

I have a few long flights coming up so I was looking into something that would sound good and not blow out my ears.
thanks

not much beyond 2/3 volume usually.  depends where i'm sitting in relation to the engines.  also, depends how many crying babies are around!  :frustrated:

thanks - sounds pretty reasonable.

there ought to be a special section on planes for children under 2 (and there parents
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: jedifunk on June 06, 2006, 11:38:15 AM
why?

its not like it would make the sound of a crying baby go away...  thats segregation, and discrimination...

its things like that that make me nervous and apprehensive to take my kid on a plane... then when i do, i'm paranoid the whole time that people are pissed... when in reality everyone should just tune it out and deal with it.  its not like the child is crying just to piss people off...
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: tet on June 06, 2006, 01:34:07 PM
<rant>

why should we deal with it??  some of us choose to not have children, so why should we have to listen to your whining, crying one?  everyone else deserves to get some peace and quiet on a plane, it's selfish of you to think that we all should just "deal with it" because you decided to have offspring.  not our problem!!  if that means you don't fly, so be it.  shoulda thought ahead before not pulling out!

thats fine, i respect your opinion... but its totally out of line...

you were a child once... if you werent so focused on yourself, you might realize that, and have a little tolerance...  i'm not saying you should just "deal with it", but just have a little patience, understanding, and a little perspective on the entire situation, not just your own.

i was the same way, but now i've got the ability to see the other side, and see how selfish that was...

thats the problem with our society... me me me... but i digress.
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: jedifunk on June 06, 2006, 02:05:50 PM
on topic however:  i have an older pair of phones... technics RP--HT400.  they work just fine for my needs.  a little bulky, but they were never meant to travel.

and since i dont have a good quality stereo (all music is run through my powerbook to speakers wirelessly) i dont know if they are good or bad... but they work.
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: tet on June 06, 2006, 02:30:49 PM
yeah, i'm always hesitant to travel with expensive headphone to be honest...  a good, old, comfortable pair works fine most of the time.  that's why i still keep my old Sony MDR-V600's around!  they're a bit bulky, but they certainly get the job done.

i know i'm out of line re: kids, as i don't have any... (that the courts have challenged me on...)  of course you, as a parent, will have a change of heart, but those of us who aren't don't really give a shit what rationale you may have come to.  call us selfish, but we think the opposite side of thinking is just as selfish.  and i know i'm not alone on this...
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: jedifunk on June 06, 2006, 02:59:56 PM
i know your not alone on it either... but i hope you understand that its not a picnic for us on that plane either... in fact, we're sweatin bullets... although, my kid has been great on his 3 flights thus far...

for travel, i'm assuming your using earbuds?
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: tet on June 06, 2006, 03:30:43 PM
most of the time, yeah.  the Sony's used to be my staple for traveling, but i love my Shure e4c earbuds - totally block out any sound, and you don't feel them after even 10 hours of use.  i'm sure the e5c are even nicer, as are some of the custom-molded ones my buddy is about to pay a grand for...

I think I'm going to have to stop making "tongue in cheek" comments - I'm being taken a bit too seriously.

I know, it's a toss up between who is unhappier, the crying kid, the person being kept awake, and mom & dad trying to deal with it.

Anyway, thanks for the headphone advice.

I'm listening to my Grado SR-125's for the first time. Playing is Stash from 8/7/93. I feel like I'm hearing Phish for the first time. Unbelievably full sound. Thanks, Tet, for the great advice! I'm just going to sit here for the next three days and listen to music.  :-D

I think I'm going to ask for some phones for christmas...  I have to stay aware of cost, and the Shure E3Cs are at my limit (found them for about $120).  First, I'm wondering if there's that much of a difference between them and the E2Cs, and then if they are the phone of choice.  This thread discusses others, but I haven't gotten into specs really.  I'm curious on the sonys, but wonder if there's any others out there that anyone likes.  I'm thinking of trying to find something around $60-$80

the E3c is significantly better than the E2c, but I'm a big fan of the E4c - i find the bass response is heads and shoulders above the other models.

if you're really looking at the $60-$80 range, i'd suggest some low-end Grados.  they have the SR-60 for that price at J&R, it seems like they're trying to push them in a more commercial sense.  some of the least expensive hand-made headphones you can buy...

After reading all these posts, i'm unsure what to do.

We're going to Hawaii next May.  I'm going to be spending around 13 hrs. on a plane.  Therefore, the wife's going to by me an 80GB ipod for xmas.  I want some headphones that will produce clear sound, while removing the in-flight noise.  I don't want to turn the music up so loud that it drowns out the noise.  I want headphones that won't let the noise in.  I've noticed that there were some issues with the ipod's output not being strong enough to power big headphones....What's that all about and why is that occurring?

I'm wanting to keep the cost somewhere between $50 and $200.

I hope that I have explained my request in an understandable manner.

Don't those create the "white noise" that tet was talking about?

Also, on CNET (http://shopper.cnet.com/Sony_MDR_7509_headphones/4014-6468_9-30520451.html?ccmd=add&tag=shzipcode), the Recommended Use says something like "The noise canceling feature blocks the din on buses and airplanes."  What the hell is the "din on buses and airplanes"?
Title: Re: Headphones

It's not like you're on the runway with the plane - any "cup" style headphones will easily block out most of the noise on the airplane.

Bring your iPod (or discman) to the store and try a few things out - you'll know which ones to get when you hear them for the first time ;)

Well, marmar, I hope you took care of me....  My wife bought me a pair of the HD280Pro's.  Not without asking about how I knew of that particular pair.

While walking around Circuit City yesterday, I was trying to help her find a decent, cheap (oxymoron, I know) set of earbuds.  I found a pair of Sennheiser's that were like $70, I think.  She then asked me how I knew of Sennheiser, and how I knew of their headphones.  I explained to her that there was a guy on this board who does professional studio work, and that he recommended them.  Her reply: "So, let me make sure I understand you.  You made your decision based on what someone else says on a messageboard?  And you haven't even met him?  What are you thinking?  Are you sure?"

My reply: "Well, I DID look elsewhere for specs., reviews, etc.  The headphones were well received from those who reviewed them.  BUT the guy on the messageboard has mastered some uncirculated Phish shows, and they sounded really good, so he must know what he's talking about."

Her reply: "Hmmph." [walks away in amazement, shaking head]

THEREFORE, I hope you're right, so I can rub it in her face later on. :-D

so i'm looking for some over-ear headphones to go with my new sony CD walkman... its their top model, pretty nice... but i hate in ear phones.

i've never spent more than $50 on headphones before, and i'm not likely to spend much more than $100 right now...

mainly i'm curious as to how much difference an expensive pair can make when just using them with a walkman.

and does it matter what device your using them with--capatibilty wise-- or can a good set of phones really make a difference regardless of what they are plugged into.

any input//experience fellas??

thanks,

I need to have closed over-ear phones at work to keep from annoying my neighbors in cube-land. I used to have a pair of cheap-ish $50 Koss active-noise-canceling phones from when I used to fly a lot for work. They were nice, but I really had no idea what good cans were until those the Koss phones died a few weeks ago. No better time to upgrade, I figured.

I replaced them with a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones and HOLY SHIT! these things are nice.

They list for $199, but you can find them for $99 all over the web.

I want to upgrade to their HD650's one of these days, but it's hard to justify since I likely wouldn't be able to use them at work due to the sound leakage...

I've heard detail in music the last few weeks that I didn't think was possible. I'm re-listening to albums/shows that I haven't listened to in ages just to re-experience them with these cans. Build quality is excellent and I can wear them comfortably for 3-4 hour stretches at work with no problems, too.

I use them with my Rio Karma (2 years old and only 20GB, but plays OGG and FLAC) and since they are only 64 Ohm impedance, it doesn't have too much trouble driving them, making using them without a separate headphone amp possible.

For a closed-over-ear headphone, you simply can't do better for the money.

Nice!  I just read the rest of the thread. Nice to see Marmar and I have the same taste in cans!

Bought my 280's here http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/sennheiser/sennheiser-hd-280-pro.php (http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/sennheiser/sennheiser-hd-280-pro.php) based on reviews I read online and couldn't be happier for the $ I spent.

ya, if marmar likes it, good chance it's a worthwhile purchase.  though i would hesitate before blowing $12k on a matched pair of McIntosh amps....

lol...why's that tet?

Ok...to answer your question slim.....by all means YES it will make a difference. think of it like this............would you rather listen to sound coming from a stereo with little 2.5" drivers for bass or a nice set of 8" drivers? It really will make that much of a difference. Honestly, you can not go wrong with any headphones that are "reference" models.....these models are usually tuned for accuracy and spl. If you just want volume, go for DJ headphones......but seriously, and take this to heart, you'll never hear music the same way after you've had a few days with reference level headphones on......the detail and accuracy is simply amazing, even with a $5 discman you can buy at CVS....and they only sound better with better equipment......

those headphones look really nice.
i could rationalize spendin a bill too...

any other recs in this range i should check out, or are these my best bet?

((BTW... what is this  "reference level" you're speaking of??))

EDIT:

i browsed that website... some good stuff......

they kep mentioning the use of 'headphone amps'--- i'll be honest, i have no idea what they are refering to. --????

I'll bet Marmar will hop on later and add to this, but from my limited technical understanding...

Headphones are like speakers, just smaller. The signal needs to be amplified in order to be audible with headphones just like with regular stereo speakers. CD players, iPods and the like all also have little amplifiers in them to drive the headphones you plug into them. Trouble is, some headphones, in fact, most of the better ones, for reasons I don't really understand, have a higher electrical impedance meaning that the puny amplifiers in these portable devices just don't have the oomph (that's a technical term) to drive these headphones to their highest potential.

Since I didn't have the $ to invest in both a HIGH-end set of headphones AND a separate amp, I liked the specs of the HD280s, as their relatively low impedance of 64 Ohms means that they can and do sound pretty damn good without a separate amplifier, but they'll still benefit from one as well. So I can add one later if I want.

That's how I understand it, anyhow.  Hope that helps. I use my HD280's without a separate amplifier and am still VERY impressed with their sound. It sounds like PhishJY is enjoying his as well!

thanks alot for the input bro!
i think you explained the benefits of those 280s very well... i also just read up on the amps... i mean i understand the concept, its just a completely new idea to me-- never heard of anyone toting around a AMP for their headphones!! thats freakin cool!

anyway, without going crazy comparing stuff, those 280s are lookin dope.

its funny, i will end up using them for everything, but right now, i jsut bought this new CDwalkman... its actually got a decent ampunt of power and it drives the included pair of in ears nicely, but the overear phones i own-- some really big sonys(-probably like $20-30) dont ge tthe same response.......

BTW,, HERE is the Walkman i just purchased:

so... the one negative thing i see in reviews of the hd 280s is that they are bulky...

would it be a stretch to go for these if i was mainly going to use them while on the move/road/air, etc...??

i've got an old pair of Sony MDR-V600s that still kick some ass.  completely over the ear, very comfortable to wear for HOURS, and they really work wonders on planes.  they do seem to use up battery power a bit more than earbuds though, i will say that.  i had them with my old portable CD player though, and they were really fantastic.  they are probably about the same size as these Senns, but you'll find them for pretty cheap these days.

sitting at home though, i tend to use my newer Grado SR-125s.  stunning fidelity, but they're more open air designed, and sit on top of the ears, not over them completely - they really don't block out much outside sound because of that.  my iPod can certainly power them well enough, i'm sure the Walkman could too.  i think they still sell for $150, and i'd highly recommend stepping up to them.  very tiny and lightweight, but sound quality that will blow you away for that money.

i had a pair... no tthat model but very similar, that i bought back ~ 1992... they were the shit and were my headphones for years... i fianlly busted them a few years back and then ended up gettin these cheap sony's that i thought would do the same trick, but i guess when you buy a set of headphones at walgreens you cant really expect anything professional grade!

thats one nice thing about my new walkman-- 1 AA battery lasts 41 hours!! yes!

Think of a headphone amp like any car stereo.....

Your deck will drive aftermarket speakers nicely......but when you push the head, it will distort.......now, add an amp into the signal chain.......suddenly, you can drive the head to almost full volume before it starts to distort.......this is because the amp provides a cleaner, more stable supply of "clean power" to drive the speakers. Headphone amps are the same thing. You can drive headphones without an amp, but as was stated, you'll never get their full potential if that have a high impedance.....most onboard amps for portables range from about 100-800mOhms......so if you get a pair of headphones with an impedance of say 64mOhms, you'll overload the amp before you can send enough current to drive the headphones to their full allowance of current. In such a case, an external amp for the phones would provide the necessary current to drive the phones to their full, "nominal", operating levels.

It's a basic audio/electrical principal.....try to match your resistances from amp > sound reproducing device (speaker/headphone) so that you don't strain your amp and or speakers. So in other words, if your speakers say "4Ohms Nominal" make sure you have an amp that can do at LEAST 4Ohms. Another thing to remember is that the higher the Ohms # is, the more resistance the circuit has......so if you have an amp that is rated for 4Ohms, DO NOT run a 2Ohm load on it......8Ohm amp, don't run a 4Ohm load on it.....etc......

so is it cool like khanti said with the 280s... in the respect that they are nice as is, but also will functino with an amp if i end up adding one?!?

Sennheiser hd 280 pros in the mail for my b-day!

$99, free shippin... no cost to me!

best part is they'll be here in three days, and plenty of time before i leave for VA next week!

w00t!

thanks for the recs guys, i'll let ya'll know how they work out.

OH. I ALmOST FORGOT:

i read somewhere that when i first get these cans that i should 'let them burn'-- or in other words like leave them plugged into a playing source at a decent VOlume for a bunch of continous hours to break them in or whatever.
IS this the right thing to do?

thanks,
slimbo.
Title: Re: Headphones
Post by: Marmar on May 23, 2007, 10:50:33 PM
well

yes/no

Break-in should happen gradually.....and it won't take much to break them in....prolly 3 hrs at most.......at nominal power......I wouldn't rely on letting them just play at a "decent" volume because the moving structures will generate heat, and heat is the enemy.....if you really want to break them in fast, get a test-tone sweep disc (you can download em if ya know where to look) and play it a few times.....just umm....don't do that while listening cuz you'll go deaf.....seriously.....

It will sweep from 16Hz (roughly) to 20kHz.......it will also have a 1kHz pilot tone, and more than likely, white and pink noise at 86dbfs......playing those once will break the stiffness.

I love these kind of discussions.  I am a little behind the curve at times, but finally I have an understanding of WTF  Ohms are.  I've been looking at that specification on headphone packages for years and been totally in the dark.  Thanks everyone for allowing me to lurk and learn.  Thanks Art, your analogies are always helpful.  :beers:

Can anyone recommend a good pair of in-ear headphones for an iPhone?

I've tried the Apple issued ones (2 pairs), 3 different pairs of skull candy and a couple other random brands all in the last year. Each pair breaks on me and I end up only being able to hear out of one ear. I don't need anything fancy but I do need the earbuds to stay secure when I am at the gym. I would like to spend no more then $50 but I am willing to spend a little more if I knew they wouldn't break on me in 3 months.

The Klipsch Image S4 are the best sounding in ear headphones money can buy, under $100.  At $80, they are well worth the extra $30.  I have used them for over a year without breakage, and I wrap them around my ipod nano and carry them in my pocket most of the time.

http://www.headphone.com/headphones/etymotic-mc3.php (http://www.headphone.com/headphones/etymotic-mc3.php)

Etymotic MC3, they have an in-line mic, as well as amazing headphones. They are a little bit pricey, but this is the company that invented IEM's so they really know what they are doing. On top of that, if you treat them well (like store in the case included), you can replace the filters on the inside (should come with the tool and some extras to start out with). So when the volume or sound quality degrades (sounds like its crackling, like a busted headphone), you replace them and they should go back to their original sound (take into account burn in).

But another plus is they are low impedance so they do not take much amplification (an iPod/iPhone internal amp should be fine)

http://week4paug.net/for-sale (http://week4paug.net/for-sale)!/ic-custom-built-ampsdacs/

Also, I would like to point out I can make custom amplifiers for headphones, also DAC, custom cables or anything else you might want.

I am willing to learn how to point to point solder for tube amps or other completely analog projects.

PM if interested.

(I'm in college....you remember how it was, help me out :-D )

And you tell me what you want and I will make it happen. If you want high quality cables, I can do that, low quality, I will find cheaper but still good quality cables and connectors. I must admit though, I am still an amateur. I have only completed like 4-5 audio projects, including an iPod mod, which included removing 3mm components and putting wires in their place. So I may not have the experience, but I do my best.

I love my Shure earbuds too.  I've had these for well over two years w/no probs, and I beat the crap out of them - it's not like I ever use them when I'm just sitting around the house.  I like the wide girth of the wires and apparent solidity of construction at the transition points.  I didn't get anything near the top of the line because I had gone through too many earbuds in too few years.  Turns out I am satisfied with the sound and like I was saying, I have confidence in their construction.  These are straight earbud headphones though, no ipod/iphone controls...  I saw the SE-115 was down to $60 something at that Amazon link.

Last fall, I got Maggie some Denons with the inline controls, but the wires look really thin to me.  Not confident.

Which models do you guys have? I used to have the E4C's but they fell apart on me, so I got some basic ones till I save up for some custom fit IEM's.

I will be getting the original ones (the dual driver), apparently they are less analytical sounding so they are good for music listening instead of a stage monitor.

Also, I'll probably do red for the right faceplate and blue for the left, and clear shells (the molded part).

Sweet.  My big can headphones (audio-technicas) broke in the car wreck.  The left can was completely severed from the set.  I held on to them and this morning I was bored.  I stripped the wire a bit and reconnected it and wrapped it with electrical wire.  Then I reattached the can with some gorilla tape and they work :music:

Solid work, if you have a soldering iron though, I would suggest soldering the wires together as it will be a better connection, then wrap that in electrical tape.

But if its not a place that moves a lot then it shouldn't matter

No soldering iron here.  These are studio headphones.  The kind where the cans flip around 180.  The break was right where it turns.  But I never wear them that way so I just used gorilla tape to secure them from spinning around like that

Hmm, well if it does happen again (or you start hearing static, popping  etc). Then I would definitely suggest borrowing a soldering iron from someone or something. Or I can always do it for you free of charge :-D if it becomes a real problem, that stuff is simple.

To stay under budget and get the iPhone call features I went with the Klipsch Image S2m Noise-Isolating Headset with Microphone and Single-Button Control. I got them off Amazon for $33.50 (retail $59.99).

Thanks for the help :-)

That control button might be a rip-off.  It looks like all it does is pause.   :-P

I'm interested to see what you think of these.  I've only listened the S4's, and I've been hooked on them since I got them.  I always wondered about the S2's as well.

Got me worried for a second there but it says with a Mic

Single-button in-line control (ANSWER/MUTE/HANG-UP) :-)

Would you mind doing a quick summary on their sound and your thoughts if possible?

I have been looking into a new set of IEM's because I am realizing I might not be able to get those custom IEM's for a while.

Most faithful bass production of any IEM's I've ever tired.  Rich mids and smooth highs.  Well worth the $80 price tag.

Hmm... I might go for something new (other than Shure and Ety) as that's what I've been trying for the past few years.

Thanks. Also, do they come with tri-flange earpieces?

Got my headphones in the mail yesterday and I am totally loving them. They fit great in my ears (which I was worried about because I have some ear damage on my right ear and have found it hard to find headphones that fit well into both ears. The sound quality is good (although I think the S4's probably sounds better).  What I really like about the 'phones is the noise isolation making it so I don't need to turn up the volume at all for good sound levels and quality (having a damaged right ear I need to be careful how loud I play my headphones). That and the fact that I'm not that person on the subway with my iPod blasting and ruining my hearing makes the headphones well worth it.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations!

I have wanted these things since I was a freshman. I finally got the money though and I finally got them. The detail is amazing in these things, though the bass is not deep it is very crisp and punchy. Mids are very nice as well and the sound stage for an IEM is pretty great. I wasn't expecting much there but it still exceeds most other IEM soundstages.

I'm debating buying a pair of Sony MDR-V300s for a steal from someone here in the city.
Anyone have any experience with these? I know they are DJ phones but would they be decent for listening to records?

I had a pair at work for a long time, I found them comfy.

You can find them new pretty cheap in pro audio shops, I guess it depends how much you're paying for used.

$30 on kijiji, seems pretty cheap when I check the prices on ebay.
