Mendenhalls career was over before last season began. At best he's a third string RB. All he's looking at is 750k a year and it not guaranteed he will get it. He could be cut in week 1. Why go through working out all offseason and putting in all that work only to get cut or sit on the bench. If he was in the middle of a 40 million dollar contract and he walked away then I would be impressed. This is more the case of a guy trying to save face. I'm not impressed.

Also, it's a good thing the patriots are going to win the super bowl this year.

Colts owners Jim Irsay has been arrested on DUI and drug possession chargers.
Irsay was booked around 3am Monday morning in Carmel, a suburb of Indianapolis, and his bond has been set at $22,500. Other than that, details are still emerging. The colorful and outspoken Irsay has been with the Colts since 1982 and took the team over from his father in 1997.

Mark Sanchez, who was released by the New York Jets on Friday, is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Sanchez is rehabbing from shoulder surgery, and the Eagles will have him undergo a medical evaluation as a condition of his signing.

He would be the third quarterback on the Eagles' roster, joining starter Nick Foles and backup Matt Barkley.

Eagles agreed to terms with QB Mark Sanchez, formerly of the Jets.
Although competition-minded coach Chip Kelly is unlikely to formally announce Sanchez as his No. 2 quarterback over Matt Barkley, that's what he'll be. Sanchez's signing is further proof that Kelly's offense doesn't require a fleet-footed quarterback, despite much presumption to the contrary. Sanchez is not a statue in the pocket, but isn't exactly mobile. Sanchez offers loads of experience as a backup, but is the owner of a 71.7 career QB rating, and 55.1 completion percentage.

the bright side is Sanchez has no shot of ever entering a game.

it was tough to be upset with the Vick signing since it led to Sanchez's release.
Sanchez is tied with the most road playoff victories in NFL history.

Eagles Release Desean Jackson!

For being a complete asshole. That too bad, but F that guy.

Excerpt below, much longer writeup (complete with Instagram pics of DeSean and known gang members) here (http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2014/03/eagles_desean_jackson_off-the-field_troubles.html)

Quote
DeSean Jackson's gang connections troubling to Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- Over the past several weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles reportedly have begun to shop wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

On its face, the decision to trade one of the NFL's most talented players would seem curious: At 27, Jackson is coming off one of the best seasons of his career -- 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns. Plus, he's a playmaker who should thrive for seasons to come in head coach Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense.

Yet the Eagles' apparent interest in jettisoning Jackson likely has little to do with his performance on the field or a big-money contract that could squeeze the team's salary cap. Rather, sources close to Jackson and within the Eagles' organization say, it's Jackson's off-field behavior that concerns the front office. A bad attitude, an inconsistent work ethic, missed meetings and a lack of chemistry with head coach Chip Kelly are the reasons, sources told NJ.com. And when the Eagles looked more deeply into why Jackson was missing meetings, they found that his friends were becoming a more powerful -- and negative -- influence in his life.

Now the Eagles have even more serious concerns -- Jackson's continued association with reputed Los Angeles street gang members who have been connected to two homicides since 2010.

Ever since New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder last summer, NFL franchises have been reevaluating how closely they needed to watch their players away from the field. And what Eagles executives see in Jackson, a six-year veteran, is apparently a potential blight on the brand and a bad influence in the locker room.

As a source within the Eagles organization, who requested anonymity, put it: "They are concerned about having him around the younger players."

...

Nice to see the Eagles suddenly care about character issues...

I think you are letting your disdain for Eagles fans cloud your judgment about the organization itself. Drafting DeSean (who was widely recognized as an asshole in college) and signing TO and Vick were all considered well outside the standard operating procedure of the organization, who normally put nearly as much stock in to a player's character as their skill. Fat Andy used to say all the time how McNabb's character was one of the most important reasons he drafted McNabb over Ricky Williams (whom the fans desperately wanted, leading to the infamous draft day booing). There have been numerous players over the years who fans have pined for but known they would never see because the organization obsessed about only getting the "right" kind of player in the locker room.

So while I'm happy to grant you that Eagles fans can act like a bunch of DeSean's at times, I think your characterization of the organization is fairly unfounded. I mean, we're not the Raiders.

it's too bad about Jackson.  I think it makes sense.
it's tough.  even as a Jets fan right now, I know he can help their offense immensely but is it worth the risk?  It's why it made sense for the Eagles to drop him, especially since it is a good draft for WRs this year.
is it worth for a team like the Pats (who are interested) to take a chance (if they somehow make the money work)?  I'd say definitely.  it could mean a super bowl win.

you really think belichick would take a risk on an alleged gangbanger within a year of this?

I don't but there were rumors they were interested.
I read an article that says the Eagles have gang concerns.  I have no idea how true or untrue that is.  I think the Patriots would be very careful in their choice but I'm not ready to make jackson Aaron hernandez just yet because of a printed article.
all I'm saying is the risk makes sense for a team that wants to win this year and now building for 3 years down the road because he will most likely screw up within 3 years but skate by for the next year.

Nobody suggested the Colts owner had "ties" to drug trafficking, even though he was caught driving with controlled substances (prescription pills) and $29,000 in cash to do who-knows-what with. Instead, poor millionaire Mr. Irsay needs help, some wrote.

I usually dislike profootball talk/ Mike Florio in general but I thought he had a pretty good rebuttal of Sherman's article this a.m...basically called Sherman out for selective memory i.e. no mention of Aldon Smith last year who I think was sent to/checked himself into rehab, and essentially treated like a "poor millionaire" who "needs help" when he was found inebriated behind the wheel (during the season, no less).

Here's the article. Far from perfect and I don't agree with everything in it, but it is definitely an interesting counterpoint to the Sherm Man's article.

Draft starts tonight!     Unless there is some crazy run on QBs in the first round and an incredible prospect falls in their lap, I really hope the Redskins trade back from their current position (pick 34) to get another pick or two later.  This is the deepest draft in years, and I think we can grab a few quality guys to help this roster.

NFL Draft had better ratings than the World Series last year. It quadrupled the viewership of the NBA playoffs last night. And no one watches hockey. It's amazing to me though, that the NFL is so dominant, that people find a draft more exciting than the World Series.

That is nuts - except I could see how you wouldn't necessarily watch the World Series once your team has been eliminated. Maybe you'd watch a game 7 if it got to that.

49ers ridiculously overpay for Colin Kaepernick.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11032829/colin-kaepernick-san-francisco-49ers-agrees-six-year-deal-worth-more-110-million

Quote
Kaepernick signs six-year deal

Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers struck a deal Wednesday on a new six-year extension, which sources said is worth more than $110 million -- including a record $61 million guaranteed.

The deal ties Kaepernick to the 49ers through the 2020 season and puts him among the 10 highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. He was scheduled to have made $1.073 million this season.

"Colin's hard work and dedication have played an integral role in the recent success of the 49ers organization," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "His work ethic, leadership and on-field production have positively influenced our team, and we look forward to his continued growth in all areas."

The extension also is the ultimate sign of confidence that the 49ers have no worries about Kaepernick's role in an offseason incident in Miami that police still are investigating.

The 26-year-old Kaepernick is 21-8 as the 49ers' starting quarterback, including playoffs, and has thrown for 6,420 yards and 38 TDs in those games. His 507 rushing yards in the postseason ranks second to only former 49ers great Steve Young among all quarterbacks.

He has led San Francisco to two straight NFC Championship Games and Super Bowl XLVII.

Kaepernick threw for 3,197 yards, rushed for 524 more and accounted for 25 TDs and only eight interceptions during the 2013 season.

His deal is expected to have strong implications on potential deals for Cam Newton, Andy Dalton and Alex Smith this year, along with those for Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson next year, when they are eligible to sign their first NFL contract extensions.

NFL to scrap roman numerals for Super Bowl 50. (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/super-bowl-scrap-roman-numerals-181254748--nfl.html)

That's the good news. The bad news is this is only for one year, and it's only being done because the "L" for 50 doesn't make for a visually pleasing logo.

So basically, for all these years people have been referring to Super Bowls in writing by their roman numerals, requiring people to stop, remember their roman numerals, translate them, and then try and figure out what year that was, and this has all been because the NFL thinks that makes a prettier logo.

Kinda dumb if you ask me.

I cannot stand this kid, especially after the 2012 Cotton Bowl... They destroyed us, it wasn't fun.

This kid has such a huge target on his back.  In the NFL there is a bit of respect for some players, Peyton Manning - Dru Brees - etc... For Manziel its quite the opposite.  Defenses are just waiting for the day they get ahold of him.  I hope Jared Allen or somebody just eats his lunch on a Sunday this fall.

Texans acquired QB Ryan Mallett from the Patriots in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2016.
The "compensation" is as close to nothing as the Texans could have sent. Seemingly on the block since the day he arrived in New England in 2011, Mallett has been heavily connected to the Texans since they named former Pats OC Bill O'Brien head coach. Mallett adds more depth to the Texans' uninspiring trio of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Tom Savage, but isn't an obvious upgrade. His acquisition should mean Keenum is sent packing. Despite his inexplicable name recognition, we wouldn't count on Mallett starting any games. He's attempted only four regular-season passes, and has never stood out in exhibition action.

Appearing on NBC's NFL Kickoff 2014, Profootballtalk's Mike Florio reported Josh Gordon and Wes Welker's suspensions could be reduced or "go away completely" if the NFL and NFLPA agree on a new drug policy.
According to NFL.com's Albert Breer, Sunday is a "soft deadline" for an agreement. The sides have been trying to hammer out a pact that would allow testing for HGH. As a concession, the league would then raise the threshold for positive marijuana tests, and move amphetamines from the PED policy to substance-abuse policy. First-team substance abuse violations do not mandate a suspension. The situation is still very much up in the air.

Yeah its shameful. Im assuming the NFL is going to re-evaluate their punishment after that video was made public.
Still thats fucked up, I wouldnt expect it from him since he was very proactive in the community and would speak against bullying and stuff.
Crazy stuff, but he will be getting more punishment for this I am sure of that.

I think the NFL knows they kinda fucked up on the punishment. They will def go back n give him a bigger suspension, wouldnt be surprised if it was season long suspension.
People will be livid if it stays 2 game suspension.

Goodell already admitted he fucked up by changing the policy going forward.  I doubt he does that and then retroactively fixes this particular ruling.

Yeah, and all he'll have to show for it is $25M (plus prior salary, endorsements, etc.). What a shame.

http://money.cnn.com/2014/09/08/news/companies/ray-rice-contract/index.html

Quote
Almost none of that $25 million can be clawed back by the Ravens or the NFL, according to Mike Ginnitti, managing editor of Spotrac, a Web site that tracks professional sports contracts.

Rice probably will lose the $9.5 million in salary that he would have received for this year through the end of 2016. But since so much of his money in the contract was paid upfront in bonuses, he doesn't have to worry about losing the majority of the money.

I don't understand how the head muckety mucks at the NFL (starting with Goodell) haven't stepped down yet. All the video does is confirm (albeit in despicably violent fashion) exactly what we knew happened in that elevator. So the NFL either saw the video and covered it up or they are utterly incompetent. Either way, someone's gotta go.

One of the statuses I saw yesterday was kinda on this subject of; no one is actually giving any consideration to his wife or her feelings.
Shes the victim in this crime and ppl just leave her in the dark to attack ray. Yeah he needs some help and that was wrong everyone knows that.
But im sure it wasnt easy for Janay to wake up yesterday and relive this whole day just because some dick wad that used to work at that casino ,that just went outta business, decided to sell that video to TMZ so he didnt have to get a job for the next year.
According to Harrbaugh the team had never seen that vid before.

AP NEWSBREAK: SOURCE SAYS RICE VIDEO SENT TO NFL

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive three months ago, while league officers have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.

The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."

The law enforcement official, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, says he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can't confirm anyone watched the video. The person said they were unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited, because they wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice's punishment.

The NFL has repeatedly said it asked for but could not obtain the video of Rice hitting Janay Palmer — who is now his wife — at an Atlantic City casino in February.

The league says it has no record of the video, and no one in the league office had seen it until TMZ released it. When asked about the voicemail Wednesday, NFL officials repeated their assertion that no league official had seen the video before Monday.

The person said he sent a DVD copy of the security camera video to an NFL office and included his contact information. He asked the AP not to release the name of the NFL executive, for fear that the information would identify the law enforcement official as the source.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell initially suspended Rice for two games following the February incident, but the Ravens released Rice on Monday and the NFL suspended him indefinitely after the website TMZ released the video.

Goodell told CBS on Tuesday that "no one in the NFL, to my knowledge" had seen a new video of what happened on the elevator until it was posted online.

"We assumed that there was a video. We asked for video. But we were never granted that opportunity," Goodell said.

In a memo to the NFL's 32 teams on Wednesday, Goodell said that the league asked law enforcement for the video, but not the casino. "In the context of a criminal investigation, information obtained outside of law enforcement that has not been tested by prosecutors or by the court system is not necessarily a reliable basis for imposing league discipline," he wrote.

The video, shown to the AP on Monday, is slightly longer than the TMZ version, and includes some audio.

Rice and Janay Palmer — now Janay Rice — can be heard shouting obscenities at each other, and she appears to spit at Rice right before he throws a brutal punch. After she collapses, he drags her out of the elevator and is met by some hotel staff. One of them can be heard saying, "She's drunk, right?" And then, "No cops."

Rice had been charged with felony aggravated assault in the case, but in May he was accepted into a pretrial intervention program that allowed him to avoid jail time and could lead to the charge being purged from his record. A prominent New Jersey lawmaker called Tuesday for that decision to be reviewed.

Hours after portions of the video were made public by TMZ, Goodell suspended Rice indefinitely and Baltimore terminated his contract. He had originally been suspended for two games, and team officials had praised him for his apologies and actions after his arrest for aggravated assault.

Goodell and team officials said they were taking more severe action because of the violence in the video.

This is what happens when you go all in on the lie. I don't see how Goodell gets through this with his job intact. But it's the NFL, so he may get a raise from his $44M/yr salary as a result...

That's weak as hell. The NFL has its own investigative unit and routinely metes out punishment independent from criminal proceedings. Are we really to believe they wouldn't bother asking the hotel for that video? Maybe they just didn't want to see what was on it?

Quote
NFL Announces New Zero-Tolerance Policy On Videotaped Domestic Violence

NEW YORK—Following public outcry over his mishandling of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice's aggravated assault of his then-fiancée, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday that the league has adopted a new zero-tolerance policy toward all videotaped domestic abuse. "We hold our players to the highest standards both as professional athletes and as people, so any violence toward women that is recorded, authenticated, and then publicly distributed will be met with an automatic suspension and fine," said Goodell, adding that the new, stricter guidelines reflect the league's hard-line stance against any spousal abuse that is clearly and irrefutably captured on film. "I can assure you that any member of this league who strikes a woman in front of a live camera will face swift and heavy consequences. I also want to stress that this utterly reprehensible behavior is something we will in no way tolerate as long as the footage is completely uninterrupted and the entirety of the assault takes place within frame." Goodell went on to clarify that in such cases, the NFL will cooperate fully with local authorities as soon as the league can no longer prevent incriminating evidence from being leaked to the media.

The Patriots are starting to look really good.  This was one of the funniest things I have witnessed while watching football.  Dumbass for the Bears celebebrating a sack when down by a whole lot with 4 min left.

http://deadspin.com/lamarr-houston-injures-self-celebrating-sack-while-gett-1651006345

Not sure if that was the Pats looking good or da Bearss imploding.

The sack injury was hilarious. Dude, you just dropped Brady's backup who is only playing because you couldn't get a pass rush against the worst O line in the league, allowing TB to carve you the fuck up.  Also, it was the same celebration move Steven Tulloch tore his ACL with a month ago.
out for the year'd http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/11773941/lamarr-houston-chicago-bears-tears-acl-celebrating-sack

douchebag

a few weeks prior, houston tweeted after a game about chicago fans booing the team...told us to eat dirt.  enjoy the year of rehab...douchebag.  lol bears.

on a different note, Odell Beckham Jr has to be one of the most exciting players in the NFL right now.
if only the rest of the team could catch up to him...

I think the problem harbaugh had with it was that it amounts to a substitution which should mean the refs hold up the game to give the defense time to react. The pats didn't break any rules, but the refs did sort of fuck up.

if it was a ref fuck up (I honestly don't know / can't comment, but I get it) it was not the last ref fuck up in playoff history and certainly not the worst.

does anyone remember Giants - 49ers Jan 03?

This is incorrect. There was no substitution on the play. The refs announced the ineligible guys over the PA. Basically, Harbaugh is being a whiny bitch about being outcoached.

I can get down on that. There are a few key rule differences in canadian football that I see as improvements over the american game.

NO. They really aren't. In fact, quite the opposite. I'm Canadian, have a hometown CFL team, and I refuse to watch it. It's fucking awful. So much less strategy when you have only three downs. Pass, pass, punt, pass, pass, punt, pass, pass, punt. And the players aren't half as good as the NFL.

Yeah, I agree - it's barely watchable.  Seems like the generation before mine love it though...

I like that the field is bigger and that you can have your receivers advance toward the line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped. The three downs thing is definitely stupid and the level of talent is nowhere near the NFL but in theory it's got some cool elements.

Something tells me it'll be closer than that. 20-16 Pats.

I would, however, love it if the Pats discovered how to beat the Seattle D and got out to a 35-0 halftime lead. Anything that shits on the league's biggest game the way that Goodell has allowed the media to shit on the Pats is fine by me. A blowout would be ideal in this sense.

They didn't even need Lynch on that play, Wilson could have ran right into the endzone for the win.

Anyway congrats to all the Pats fans, but Wilson ain't going anywhere, see you next year.

Butler made a great play and deserves the truck, if not more.

Give credit to Belichek and the coaching staff, not only for putting him in the game.

They practiced defending that, Butler was getting beat in practice, they warned him that this play was coming, and the entire Pats D knew what the Hawks were gonna do as soon as they lined up in formation.

The Hawks arguably have a better team on paper, but the Pats were better prepared and made better adjustments. That's Belechik's MO. It's been that way since he was D coordinator for the Giants.
Best coach in modern history of football.

"More probably than not?" The fuck does that even mean? What a bunch of noncommittal bullshit.

http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/12833542/wells-report-finds-new-england-patriots-probably-deflated-balls

Quote
Wells report finds Pats employees probably deflated balls vs. Colts

The NFL has found that it is probable that New England Patriots personnel deliberately deflated balls during the AFC Championship Game in January and that quarterback Tom Brady was "generally aware" of what was happening.

The findings were released by Ted Wells, the league-appointed attorney who investigated whether the Patriots deflated balls in their game against the Indianapolis Colts.

"For the reasons described in this Report, and after a comprehensive investigation, we have concluded that, in connection with the AFC Championship Game, it is more probable than not that New England Patriots personnel participated in violations of the Playing Rules and were involved in a deliberate effort to circumvent the rules," the report said. "In particular, we have concluded that it is more probable than not that Jim McNally (the Officials Locker Room attendant for the Patriots) and John Jastremski (an equipment assistant for the Patriots) participated in a deliberate effort to release air from Patriots game balls after the balls were examined by the referee. Based on the evidence, it also is our view that it is more probable than not that Tom Brady (the quarterback for the Patriots) was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of McNally and Jastremski involving the release of air from Patriots game balls.

"Based on the evidence, the investigation has further concluded that that there was no deliberate attempt by the Patriots to introduce to the playing field a non-approved kicking ball during the AFC Championship Game. Although Patriots personnel provided a kicking ball to game officials that did not have the distinctive inspection mark of the referee, we find that the Patriots personnel involved believed the ball to be authentic and appropriate. We do not believe that there was any attempt by Patriots personnel, including Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski, to deliberately circumvent the rules by offering the kicking ball for play."

The NFL is considering discipline for Brady, McNally and Jastremski, a source close to the investigation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Discipline is "days" away, the source said.

The 243-page Wells report said league investigators found no evidence that coach Bill Belichick and team management knew of the practice.

The Patriots, who won the game and went on to beat the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl, said in a statement "to say we are disappointed in its findings, which do not include any incontrovertible or hard evidence of deliberate deflation of footballs at the AFC Championship Game, would be a gross understatement."

"While I respect the independent process of the investigation, the time, effort and resources expended to reach this conclusion are incomprehensible to me," Patriots CEO Robert Kraft said. "Knowing that there is no real recourse available, fighting the league and extending this debate would prove to be futile. We understand and greatly respect the responsibility of being one of 32 in this league and, on that basis, we will accept the findings of the report and take the appropriate actions based on those findings as well as any discipline levied by the league."

The findings of the report now will be turned over to Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations.

"As with other recent matters involving violations of competitive rules, Troy Vincent and his team will consider what steps to take in light of the report, both with respect to possible disciplinary action and to any changes in protocols that are necessary to avoid future incidents of this type," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "At the same time, we will continue our efforts vigorously to protect the integrity of the game and promote fair play at all times."

The NFL began investigating after the Patriots defeated the Colts 45-7 on Jan. 18. The Colts complained that several footballs were under inflated and the NFL confirmed that 11 of the 12 footballs were under the limit.

Footballs with less pressure can be easier to grip and catch. Some quarterbacks prefer footballs that have less air.

The NFL requires balls to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch, and each team is responsible for the balls it uses on offense. Brady said he prefers footballs inflated to 12.5 pounds per square inch. On many occasions, Brady said he never asked for balls to be deflated outside of the rules.

I was wondering if it was the standard that needed to be achieved to get past the hurdle of guilt like the difference between beyond a reasonable doubt and clear and convincing evidence.  (I haven't read into it or anything but figured it could possibly just be the standard they had to meet).

the only reason this matters to me is my commute sucked last night so I at least know that sports radio will keep me entertained as I sit in traffic.  otherwise, it means very little to me.  I just like hearing the defensive boston fans that call sports radio 5 times a day, 7 days a week.

The whole deflated ball thing is such a crock o' shit anyway.
Both teams played with said balls, both were at a detriment.
So unless the Pats practiced for weeks prior with deflated balls, which would impede their away games, what the hell advantage did it give them?
And to clarify my stance on this subject, I am an avid Pats hater and think they will try anything to win.
But this whole ball fiasco is a total joke and a waste of the league's time.

I don't want to get into this in detail.  it is overplayed but doesn't each team have a set of balls?
weren't the Colts using different balls than the Pats?
I admittedly didn't follow this closely because I knew it was just a media thing to get fans all riled up that wasn't going to change any outcomes of any games.

As bvaz said, each team has it's own set and only the Pats were deflated. And Brady has been on record saying he likes softer balls (he loves throwing TDs to Gronk because he spikes it so hard it deflates the ball a little so he can grip it better).

That said, I agree with you it was a complete farce from the beginning. The Pats won the game by what, 30 pts? Deflated balls has nothing to do with it. My disdain is more for the NFL and their nonsensical investigation. If you're gonna go through with this shit in the first place, the least you could do is to undeflate your balls enough to take a position (which is non-binding anyway) instead of just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fuck Jim Irsay too. Dude wants a rule change every time his team loses.

Really it's the fact that the Pats continue to find ways to cheat, and get caught.

They care little for the NFL rules, which makes them the "bad guy"... it's gonna sell newspapers every time.

The Pats fucked up
Brady fucked up - he should have come clean

does anyone think that the Pats are the only ones doing this? (I know, it doesn't matter, the Pats got caught)

The NFL is pretty naive to think that they can check the balls before the game, give them to the team, and think that no one will alter them. They get it right for the Super Bowl. They should change the rule.

I don't think Brady will get in trouble for possibley maybe cheating or whatever, but he could for lying to investigators...

Also 3 out of the 4 Colts balls that were tested came up underinflated.

The thing that most completely invalidates this report is that Wells did not seem to pursue the bit about the refs having inflated the pats' balls up to 16 for the game against the jets. How is that possible and why didn't Wells delve more into that? Oh right, because that would make the NFL look bad instead of an individual or a team.

And they won the game against the Colts by 38, jimbo.

How about this...it undermines the credibility and findings of the entire report that the NFL has the proper protocols and procedures in place regarding ball pressure when the evidence that appears they do not is not pursued.

I agree with that.  as I've said all along on this, the NFL has looked horrible in this situation as well as many others this year.

the only argument I'll make about your last clause is it depends on the scope of the engagement.  my understanding (not that I know anything) was they had a scope to investigate whether Tom or the Patriots organization had any knowledge of circumventing the rules or played any part in the balls being deflated below the league "standards."  I'd argue what happened to the balls in the Jets game was beyond the scope of the investigation.
you'll probably argue that the scope should include that and that is fine.  we will definitely agree that bringing them to 16 PSI is just wrong and cant happen again, EVER.  but I just don't think that what was being investigated.

the whole process needs to be and will be blown up and redone.  it is embarrassing that a multi-billion dollar league has such poor protocols and controls.

Holy Shit!

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports No. 3 overall pick Dante Fowler is done for the season with a torn ACL.
Fowler was carted off with a knee injury on the first day of rookie minicamp. It's the worst possible news for the Jaguars, who have lost their first-round pick for the entire year just eight days after drafting him. Fowler had yet to even sign his rookie deal, but is still expected to get a fully guaranteed contract. With Fowler sidelined, Chris Clemons should return as coach Gus Bradley's "Leo" rusher. It's a crushing blow for a team also waiting on DT Sen'Derrick Marks (ACL) to get healthy. If there's good news, it's that Fowler should be 100 percent for next year's offseason program.

game 5 of the Pats season is at Indy.  then the Jets at home.

early vegas spreads for those games are 16 TDs in each game for Brady.

but Pats lose both because they are even cutting their best, but still bad, secondary players (arrington and Dennard).

The Patriots are claiming the term "Deflator" was used to reference Jim McNally losing weight, not deflate footballs.
The Patriots have launched a website called WellsReportContext (linked below) that responds to the assertions made in the Wells Report. "The conclusions of the Wells Report are, at best, incomplete, incorrect and lack context," the introduction says. The site goes on to cite a Nobel Prize winner about PSI levels and makes the insulting claim that football handler McNally called himself the "Deflator" because he was trying to shed pounds. We've reached new lows in the absurdity of Deflategate.
