Yesterday was not a real holiday, nor should it be.

LOL @ Columbus Day... every year I forget this exists. What's the point? To give bankers and government employees a day off? At least let's make it a full-blown national holiday based on something still relevant, so that we can all take off.

agreed but hey i work in the finance world so i can either work that day and get a holiday of my choice later on, or take the day off. this time i worked so i can see phish on friday  :-D

It's a day designed to celebrate a children's myth that Columbus was anything but a tool of imperialism...

I don't know what they teach in school these days, but I sure hope I was in the last generation to be told that Columbus "discovered" America. And I'm only talking like 20-odd years ago here. Seems we should've known better by then.

I like DeSoto.

DeSoto?  What did he do?

discovered the Mississippi.

yeah, like they wouldn't have found that anyway.

I dunno, I'm pretty sure that the indigenous people flew across that part of the country on the backs of giant winged turtles and thus, never saw the river.

Seeing as how I will be knocking off early to get to Chucktown, I figured I ought to begin the phoning it in early since I won't get a full day's worth tomorrow.

I mean, that's only the sensible thing to do, right?

I've accomplished roughly nothing since lunch. I can't even finish reading Bill Simmons' column I'm so distracted.....

carpet cleaners coming to clean the office at 3:30 though so that's my reprieve.
