April showers brings May flowers so they say but the  :syf: brought many a flower in April as we'll celebrate here at susep's corner this month starting w/ this huge Cryptical Envelopment from 15April1970.  The  :syf: were playing w/ Miles Davis and his post Bitches Brew ensemble for a multi-night run at SF's Fillmore West that began on 9April.  No doubt the  :syf: were greatly inspired as this performance reflects particularly the hot jam between the brief drums segments.  Mickey and Billy are playing w/ tremendous energy as they lead the others into a scintillating improvisation.  This jam segment is one of those jams!

nice, glad you enjoy it.  I recently met an old college buddy on facebook, he would always have new shows a day or 2 after.  I made the mix for him  as a recoprication, his feedback was he thought the jams were "way out there" GD style.  Mission accomplished.

is kicking down  :syf: 1974 style.  Garcia's Wolf combined w/ The Wall melted minds everywhere.  Kicking it off are these two early May mini-tour gems:

By the time '74 rolled around Dark Star was played at a much lesser frequency then before but when they did play it like this superb 14May1974 version from Missoula, MT, it certainly made up for its absence. Jerry is manic in the last 4-5 minutes of this 26 min. masterwork.

Reminiscent of their much earlier '68 NW Tour, the next stop's Playing from 17May Vancouver, BC highlights the  :syf: more evolved collective improvisational gestalt:

Can we talk about the Dead?  I'd love to talk about the fucking Grateful Dead, for once, can we please discuss the Grateful FUCKING Dead!?!?!?!

Bobafett

the wall was so badass...i've heard there are still some of those speakers in use by touring acts today.  Bear was the man.
The events in our lives happen in a sequence in time, but in their significance to ourselves they find their own order; the continuous thread of revelation.

the missoula DStar is a classic.

I actually know Bear and have visited him where he now lives in Australia. He spends a lot of time with aboriginals and owns an art collective with them. They do a lot of work with Black Opals, which are solely mined by the aboriginals, as they were principally located on their territory in the north. If ever any of you (that I sort of know) are going to Australia and would like to pay him a visit shoot me a pm. He is super friendly, you wouldn't feel weird or feel like you are imposing, he is an old man now, completely unassuming, a great musician taboot and LOVES TO TELL TALES. The shit that went down would burn off both your little ears. And on top of all that he lives in an unbelievable place in the rain forest. It's magic, trust me. Worth the trip.
Que te vaya bien, que te vaya bien, Te quiero más que las palabras pueden decir.

Next stop of the  :syf: May '74 mini-tour, the Edmunson Pavillion in Seattle on 21May.  Here the  :syf: unleashed one of their longest and most improvisational expressions in a very tripped out, super-extended Playing in the Band.  I'm still digesting this beast of a jam.  Feel free to drop a review.

Recently rediscovered my first downloaded Derek Trucks Band show from 26Nov.2004 Wilmington, DE.
Amazing mix of smoking jazz covers and originals.  Trucks playing is so intense and fluid, I have yet to hear a DTB show that surpasses this Giant:
