if you haven't read the Ice & Fire series of books by George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones is book 1), you're missing out in a big way. i loathe fantasy books, but a friend finally forced these on me, and they're amazing.
a few years back i thought to myself that the only way they could ever be filmed was to make each book (they're about 1000 pages each) into a 12 episode HBO series. i even wrote out treatments for all 12 episodes of the first book and got in touch with Martin's lawyer to see if the rights had been bought. they hadn't. i was hoping to interest some friends of friends in the world of TV... six months passed... and i read in variety that someone was turning the books into an HBO series. doh!
not sure how this making of/preview will play to those who haven't read the books, but from my view, it looks like they did a great job. this could be exceptional.
and a warning to those watching/reading anything about this series: big spoilers are out there. very little that happens in this story is expected. either read the books--or be very cautious reading about this series, i.e. avoid youtube comments sections...

I am also a fantasy nerd, and I also love ASoIaF, but I think Erikson's Malazan series is the best "fat fantasy" series out there. not to mention Erikson isn't obese, and actually releases his books regularly. :) in fact he might have finished it already. I started reading the 8th book, but had no clue what was going on since I'd waited too long to pick it up, so I decided to reread the series. I'm having a blast delving into the first book again!
anywho, I haven't read past the first three books in ASoIaF, specifically because I want it to be finished before I invest anymore time in it, and I don't have full confidence that will happen. BUT, with the series coming up, I will reread Game.

Just watched the first episode. Awesome.
Pretty entertaining. High quality production, for TV or otherwise. Lots of nekkidness, which is always a plus. I don't read the books but my wife does, so I'm sure we'll stick with the series as long as it keeps bringing the goods.
not bad. a tough episode to pull off, having to introduce so many characters, but they did it well enough. seems like a lot of strong actors.
reading various reviewers, all of whom were given the first six episodes to watch, it sounds like this is the weakest episode and they just keep getting better and better. which makes sense for a story this big.
psyched for next week...

it is feeling a bit cramped, with so much plot to get in there. and they're not even trying to make each episode it's own thing in any way. it's just one long story. but still, i'm enjoying it.

Caught up through ep 3. I'm definitely liking the story as they're crafting it. I wonder how I'd feel if I didn't know the stuff they've left out.
Some stuff is straight out of the books though, like, in ep 2 when the Lannisters breakfast together... that dialog is straight from the text.
just saw tonight's. this week and last are very good. as the characters come more into focus and the plot really gets underway, it's getting a lot better. kind of like the book, really, in that it takes a little while into the first book for things to really take off.
I sat down this morning and watched the first five episodes. I love this show and story. I've never read the books so this is all new to me. I may have to put the books in my reading queue.

Just watched the whole first season this past week....havent had anything to do until school started today.
I love the world that is developed in this series. Its kinda like a medieval/fantasy world. Kinda like LOTR style magic and stuff, but leaned more towards the Medieval side of the world. And there seems to be a lot more evil creates, that are past the wall. Really dig it.

I dunno, I still enjoyed it. Particularly the sequence where Tyrion manipulates the council to root out a snitch. I like his scheming ways.
My wife read the first book but not the whole series. I've read none of it. I enjoy the show plenty and while I have to try hard at times to follow things, it's not losing me entirely.

wow tonight's episode was the best yet... just amazing moments. i almost don't care how good or different the books are because this is awesome television.
I'm caught up with every episode up to tonights and it took hardly any time at all. Once I started, I couldn't stop. It's just an all-around phenomenal show.

That episode was amazing! The dialogue alone was extremely well written, then you throw in all the bad-assness that's going on, and you end up with one of the best episodes yet.
I have last nights episode on deck. I probably won't get around to watching it until tonight or tomorrow sometime. These last few episodes have been a tad boring, but that type of thing is necessary to get everything set up to blow our minds.
Needless to say, I'm psyched.

HBO is stupid in their handling of post-broadcast access to their shows.
The streaming via their website/app sounds great but if you can't buy it without a cable subscription, it's not solving the problem.
Also, there are some media streaming devices (Roku being one, I think) that will let you do HBO Go through a TV, and others (like Apple TV) with which it hasn't been integrated. I've found the quality of streaming to a laptop that's hooked up to a TV to be hit or miss.

I broke down and signed up for HBO for the foreseeable future so I can watch this (...and have Deadwood at hand on HBO Go whenever I like :-))
I watched the first season in quick succession and noted:
1) There are a lot of white people in this season. Even ancient evil is white, apparently.
2) There are a lot of white breasts in this season. Best part about fantasy I think.
3) The fate of Ned Stark was unexpected in Ep 9. I thought it was pretty risky and admirable to do that prior to the finale.
4) I thought the Khaleesi storyline was getting a bit....stale....by the end. And then the dragons showed up and it the only time I rolled my eyes. But I quickly refocused because, yup, those breasts.
On to Season Two.

Going through a re-watch made me more appreciative of the cinematography of the series, just so pleasant to look at. What it also did was made the dialogue wilt. All it does is service the plot, and some of it is terrible.
Also made me appreciate the lack of nudity by Emilia Clark in season 2, which hopefully gets rectified this season :evil:

I enjoyed each more than the last as the world became more and more complete.
interesting take. my biggest issues with the last two are too many plot lines that go nowhere (as of yet) and chapters devoted to characters that bore me. the first 3 are like a roller coaster tho

easier said by those who just got into the books. for we who started years ago, the wait was interminable.
but yeah. at this point, it seems silly to rank book 4 and book 5 as seperate entities. they constitute one book, split in half. when the next one finally comes out 73 years from now, i'm going to re-read 4 and 5 interleaved, and i'm guessing it'll be much more enjoyable than having read them separately.

Now I can see why my wife (who'd read the book) was extra pissed that our cable was out last night and we had to wait a day.
Just caught up by watching the last 3 episodes. Killer! I haven't read any of the books so I had no idea what was coming.
This season needed it. Has been moving at a glacial pace.
Nice touch having Arya so close and yet so far.
I also applaud them for doing this with the storyline just prior to the finale, as they did with Ned's beheading.

Good acting, good dialog, beautiful locations, great sets, complex dramatic storylines (maybe too complex at times, I'll admit), tension, violence, good vfx, nakedness...
Seems there's plenty to like there.
And I came into this show having not read any of the books (still haven't) and being no more into the fantasy genre than just the average Joe Entertainment Consumer.

This explains why you, as a reader of the books, don't like the show, but I'm curious still why you don't see why non-readers like it.

Given how much I enjoy this show, I'd normally be approaching tomorrow with a "bittersweet" attitude -- can't wait for the finale, but it sucks that I'll have to wait a year for more episodes. However, I'm pretty damn pumped because, after tomorrow, I'm gonna dive balls deep into the books.

Umm. . . no, not really. However, I wasn't disappointed at all. I thought it was a very good finale and that it set things up nicely for next season. But in terms of total shock and horror, I don't see anything ever topping that wedding.

Appears as if we have the potential for a meeting of Sansa and Arya in the Eyrie, and Bran and Jon north of the wall. Bran's storyline, as it is in the show, hasn't felt relevant this season (I know he had the loaded vision touching the weirwood recently, and yet...), but perhaps that will change (his is one which is more interesting in the books). I was on the fence when he showed up at Crastors, I thought we were going to have another key death on our hands. It also appears Jamie and Cersei are going down separate roads (Jamie's lack of remorse at his son's death is odd), and the assassination has given Cersei the opportunity to become a little more human.
Other obs and wishes:
1) Can Podrik service Brienne as well as he did those whores? He may be the only person in the Seven Kingdoms who can reach her where she is most tender.
2) More Prince Oberyn.
3) Dany is given some of the shittiest dialogue these writers can create. Not much different in the books either. No sight of the dragons in the last two episodes which was unexpected.
4) The lack of Theon hasn't bothered me.
I just finished the second book in the series, hope to catch up to where we are in the show this week or next. I may catch hell for this but I am going to say it anyway - the writing in these books is terrible. I wasn't expecting Graham Greene or Flannery O'Connor, but I mean, goddamn. You can tell George is a very intelligent person by that RS interview, and he obviously thinks about large scale problems deeply, but he speaks better than he writes.
I don't read the books (yet), so I don't have anything to compare to, but I thoroughly enjoyed the hour.
There were a couple things that surprised me: I wasn't expecting them to answer the big question so quickly (or even at all). Also, I found it a bit odd that Jamie would part with his new and awesome sword just like that. I totally expected him to remain a loyal friend to Brienne, but I was a bit puzzled by how far he took it.
Other random thoughts: Littlefinger is one scary guy. I was reminded of that line from one of the earlier seasons, "He'd have the city burned to the ground if he could be king of the ashes." Right now he's a schemer and a murderer. I have a feeling he'll soon be Westeros' newest "king" laying claim to the throne.
ETA: I hope we'll learn more about the white walkers (and their boss man) this season.
Thought this was one of the better episodes this season, certainly better than last. I hope Arya and Sansa are able to reconnect in the Eyrie. That would be a potentially powerful conversation.
In a show full of weirdos, Lysa is one of the weirdest, perhaps only outdone by Littlefinger. Nice match.

I think I could watch an entire episode of Tywin waxing lyrical on power, politics, and family and be completely satisfied with it.

I haven't seen it. I watched the previous episode last night and straight up loved it. That battle at the wall rivals the Helm's Deep sequence in the Two Towers films easily and trumps it in several ways (no elves snowboarding on shields, for example.)

The Brienne-Hound showdown was pretty good, though I'll miss that mean old bastard.
And as for the Tywin-Tyrion business, it was a monumental development but I can't help but feel like it wasn't *quite* given its full due in the show.

That being said, I dug the opener. My only complaint was no Arya, but from the looks of the preview we'll get there next week.

That fight and entire scene really were a complete waste of 3-4 minutes.
Theon needs to destroy Ramsay. I too was getting all worked up hoping he'd do something, but then realized that's what the writers do, make you feel something. It wouldn't have worked the same if he had.
There are so many storylines going on at this point. They still haven't addressed Bran Stark yet and the season is more than halfway over. Time to start killing off some characters.

Agreed. This season seems a lot slower than the past and it's kinda hard to tell where some of the story lines are going and some just seem to be stagnant.
Finally! An episode that I want to watch again!
I binged the first two seasons in time for the season 3 premier and I've been watching week-by-week ever since. And out of seasons three and four, I can only think of a small handful of episodes that I didn't really feel the need to watch again throughout the week. However, with this season, that has been every episode until now.
It finally felt like they moved the plot forward, particularly with Tyrion and Arya's arcs. It felt like Tyrion would be slowly dragged around the world by various captors for as long as Arya would be scrubbing floors. But I guess that is what happened. They both got to actually do something in the same episode. I hope they get to do even more stuff and things.
And, of course, the Hardhome battle. Holy shit was that was an amazing sequence. The wights are really going to be a problem without Dany's dragons. And the White Walkers are gonna be trouble unless they can somehow spread the word and acquire ever Valyrian steel blade in the world (not to mention a shit load of dragon glass points).

Yeah, they're saying "he's dead" but that doesn't mean he stays dead. The Red Woman could potentially bring him back, the same way Dude #2 brought back Dude #1 after he was killed by The Hound in season three (I can't recall their names, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about).
And from a narrative point of view, they spent so much time this season dropping big hints about his biological parents, so it would be pretty odd if they were to just off him without resolving that. Or maybe I'm just in denial.
Great finale. So many cliffhangers! It's going to be a long wait.

Someone who's also read the books, tell me: How much had the show pulled dialog straight from the source material? This season's opener struck me as having, possibly, less impressive writing than past episodes, and I wonder if that's because the showrunners are now much more on their own.
Yeah this is the first time they are completely off the rails from the books - nothing has really been written published much beyond how they ended last season.
I do think the writing was a bit weak, but it's been like that all along with the Sand Snakes, so that's not a good judge of the situation anyway. What a fucking waste of a plotline that was!!

I really like that they seem to be drawing from parts of the books that haven't been shown or told on screen yet. Like Tyrions speech to the dragons was a story he told Shea in the books and the whole Baelon from the bridge thing. and finally bringing in Crows Eye and some other Iron Islanders.
I heard an interesting fan theory today about the origin of Hodor which was:
[spoiler]Hodor(Wylis) was a warg and as Max Von Sydow warned Bran, you shouldn't "warg" too much or it can end up harming you. With Wylis being a stable boy it's likely that he would "warg" into a horse ( maybe named Hodor? Perhaps Lyanna's, as she was very kind to him?) and if he "warged" into the horse for too long, or if the horse was killed while he was warging, his brain might've been fried leaving him with a horse-like brain. Great stuff. That ending gave me chills.
Probably the most upset I've been made by this show... Very well done though, and [spoiler]young Hodor[/spoiler] was on-point. I had a feeling a couple episodes ago that the whole warging thing would be the cause of it, but that was so very tragic and heartbreaking on a number of levels.
Also, seeing both Varys and Littlefinger being put in their place was pretty glorious. Those two usually strive on being in charge of any situation, and it's mostly due to their knowing that they hold the information edge in almost any confrontation. I am not sure why Sansa is buying that bullshit though - to me, the whole [spoiler]Blackfish[/spoiler] story seems like a trap.

I liked it a lot more when it seemed like she was going to go all the way to full-blown, badass assassindom and go on a rampage throughout the Seven Kingdoms. But I guess they didn't just want to turn her into an unrepentant, unredeemable murderess.

Alright, I'm a few years late to the game but I've just started watching this series. I've heard too many glowing reviews to ignore it.
However, ill admit, I am not "into" this genre. Fantasy/Lord of the Rings-ish stuff just doesn't intrigue me.
Is there more? I'm 3 episodes in and am bored as hell -- does anything happen? I'm assuming I'm still in the charter/story building stage of the show but basically nothing is happening yet. When does all the interesting stuff start? This is worth it..... Right???

I don't really remember at what point certain things happen but I would def encourage you to watch through the whole first season and get into the second to give yourself a chance to get into it and understand the world and characters.

Yeah. A re-watch will definitely help you out with the names of characters and places. That was an issue with me at first. I'd recommend watching the first season again, then moving on to season two -- where they introduce even more characters.

As far as it all falling into place over time, it certainly will. I do still recommend re-watching at some point whenever you have the time and motivation. That chart would probably help, too.

I was thinking that [spoiler]Dany's vision at the House of the Undying might tie into that theory. She, iirc, was arriving at a destroyed and abandoned Red Keep. There was a hole in the ceiling, I think, and it was snowing down on the Iron Throne. Perhaps that wasn't some wild hallucination, but rather her future. Maybe we'll see her arrive at a burned down King's Landing (with winter finally there), and she'll move north since there's nothing left there. That would bring the story to the appropriate spot, geographically speaking, for the dragons vs white walkers showdown. [/spoiler]

Well, that was very satisfying.
Pretty awesome wrap-up. Allegiances were forged, Targaryen-ism has been proven and there's a new King in the North.

Just too much good stuff in that finale to sum up my feelings, other than saying that was incredibly satisfying, and I can't wait to see what the next 2 (FINAL!) seasons bring!
The new alliances are intriguing, as are the potential issues up North, where I think [spoiler]DAKINGINDANORF Jon Targarysnow[/spoiler] will march NORTH, not South, like his [spoiler]brother cousin[/spoiler] made the mistake of doing, and hopefully avoid the issues that come with facing other living armies. I'm also not sure what [spoiler]Jaime[/spoiler] is going to do now, other than perhaps [spoiler]murder Cersei[/spoiler], and then head North with[spoiler] Bronn to join up with Brienne/Podd in Winterfell[/spoiler]. Eventually, I think [spoiler]Tyrion will meet up with DAKINGINDANORF and broker an alliance between those cousins, who may also end up marrying eachother[/spoiler]. The only person who still worries me is [spoiler]Littlefinger[/spoiler], as he's just a fucking prick. Oh, and with [spoiler]Mellisandre[/spoiler] riding south, she's going to meet up with [spoiler]Arya[/spoiler] sooner or later, and that may or may not go well.

Alright - late to the game but im fully invested at this point. Just finished season 4.
I've, admittedly, never been big on the 'fantasy' genre, but with some dedication - this series has sucked me in. It's has enough character development to keep me intrigued and I appreciate they have eased into the 'magic/unrealistic" aspects. That's what generally turns me off in other fantasy series...
I especially love how they keep killing off nearly every character you become emotionally evolved with. Who does that?!
Any word on how many seasons this series plans to go? I'm predicting a full on war with the white-walkers when "winter comes" as the pinnacle. And that sexy dragon bitch has got something going for her. I look forward to her eminent collide with the rest of the western folk!

Holy shit - was that ever a season finale.
It's strange to me (in a great way) how different that episode was in terms of cinematography compared to the rest of the series. Almost as if someone else directed/produced or something - just a completely different flow/vibe.
It felt like nearly every scene could have been the pinnacle of a movie and cut to the credits after. Epic. Tied everything together. Great show. Three thumbs up. :wtu:

1st, from the very 1st episdoe to the last of this season Aria Stark's storyline is my absolute favorite. she is an amazing actor and i 've loved each adventure she's been a part of from her Bravosy dance instuctor to the hound to the many faced god.
I can't wait to see how her quest to finsh off Circe and the Mountain comes to conclusion.
2nd I've always loved the thread of the 6 Dire Wolves and now I'm rooting for Ghost and have a hope that the only other wolf left , Aria's, somehow reappears and finds her.
--and lastly, i had a question- so in the final episode when BRan has his vision of his aunt dying and we find out JOhn was her son not his fathers... from all i coulld gather the father must then be the Targarian that raped her right? or could it have been Robert berathian? i wasnt 100% sure Robert hadnt been with her but the only mention of her beforehand was about her getting raped so i'm assuming that means JOhn is half stark half Targarian , right?

Rhegar Targaryen is John Snows father, and he didn't rape Lyanna, they were in love. The whole thing is much better explained in the books. He and Lyanna running off together just so happened to coincide with the mad King going bat-shit crazy and losing the kingdom for the Targaryens. Roberts Rebellion wouldn't have gained as much steam if people thought that his woman had run off with another man instead of her being kidnapped.

That was one of my favorite lines from last night. It's odd how Sansa has progressed. In the beginning I hated Sansa more than anyone else and attributed most of the terrible things that happen to her siding with Jofffery when Arya's wolf bite him (I still think Sansa's at fault for the majority of what transpired after that), but now that she's one of the few Starks left. I hate her much less.
Decent opener. Some rust but I see things that bode well for the next few shows.

Unlike the other musicians who have had cameos (Mastadon as white walkers, Of Monsters and Men as the minstrels in the play at Braavos), his cameo took me out of the moment of the show and made it feel like I was watching an Ed Sheeran video instead of GoT. Might as well have had John Mayer singing 'Your Body is My Westeros'.

It's the second week in a row a Sam scene made me want to puke (last week was his shit pot montage). And now that I think of it, both scenes were edited together with a scene of people eating.
Agreed about Theon. Ramsey killed him back in season three or whatever. He did make a bit of progress last season, but we just watched him go full blown Reek within the span of a minute. I think he's permanently broken (though he was an asshole before the whole Reek thing, anyway) but I still want to see him redeem himself before the series wraps up.

Felt like they carefully, and methodically strung together all these intricate story lines that took 6 seasons to play out.... then all of a sudden everything this season was so rushed!
Seems like they spent their money/time on the FX/CGI this season rather than other aspects...
I liked how the Hound said, "you know who's coming" to the Mountain.
I'm willing to bet the Hound has seen fire visions his entire life, saw how his brother dies, and this is why his face was pushed into the fire.
Holy shit the finale was dope. That scene at the Wall is still just blowing my mind.
As for the Jon/Dany thing, I mean if you watched the little "Inside the Episode" thing, Weiss talks about the scene and why it's meant to make you feel all those emotions. At the end of the day though, I think it might make them a little skittish for a bit, but Jon is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, and Dany is going to be his queen.
Now this of course is pure speculation, but I can't wait until they kill Cersei. I may watch that scene on repeat for the first few days.
I'm still hoping to see Arya kill Cersei. Maybe she can use Littlefinger's face to gain inside access to King's Landing.

Talking to people at work who've never read the books has been strange when they don't know who The Golden Company is. I assumed that they wouldn't even show up in the show due to all the additional stories that they would be bringing with them.

I dunno I read that scene that he is actually in love with Daenyres and was jealous of them being together and therefore was shoved a little closer toward the "darkside".
I read it as concern for the complications that such a tryst might bring to their alliance.
So for the longest time, going back to basically season one and when I started reading the books, some of my first thoughts were that Dany, Jon(Aegon), and Bran would end up riding the three dragons in The Great War. Dany and Jon(Aegon) each actually riding a dragon, and Bran warging/controlling another, which would fulfill the three headed dragon theory.
However, now that Viserion is kind of off the board, all of that seems highly unlikely, which also is making me rethink how Bran plays into all of this. I am actually starting to warm up to the idea stated previously about Bran (no spoilers).

Agreed. The Night King has to be one of the First Men, and was created (As Bran saw) by the Children of the Forest, so that has to be the same magic linking them both to the Children. Pretty intense, but they have to have a deeper connection, and I'm excited to see where it ultimately ends up. Looking at the season 7 finale with that in mind, it could make that episode a whole lot more linear.

I have to admit I impressed even myself when as we were watching the new intro (which rocks btw) and my wife asked what The Last Hearth was and I somehow was able to pull the knowledge out of my butt that it was the castle of the Umbers.
But reading the books with the added details definitely helps with that kind of stuff.

I read an interview with George RR Martin last night where he said that the show would need 5 more seasons to tell the remaining story he has left for the books. But sadly, those books are nowhere in sight.

Overall we almost got another 'setup' episode, which makes me excited for most lilkely non stop death and destruction over the next few.
Even moreso this ep felt like the final love letter to All the characters and relattionships from the series.
So many notes were hit reaching back to each characters big moments. sorta getting sad already feeling like that was basically the last time we get to see all of them just having conversations and stuff.

Episode was exciting and cool and whatnot, but I felt the lack of death of main character s pretty unbelievable. Jaime, Hound, Brienne, etc were all on the front line against this giant horde that overran everything and they are all fine? They were just fighting these massive swarms 1 on 1? I dunno. Also, Bran is the most insufferable character. "I must go now...." to do absolutely nothing.

first of all, that was the darkest show I've ever watched, from the standpoint of light.
anyway, if complaining about the lack of deaths here, I don't think people really remember the previous 7 seasons of GOT. when we get major characters killed off, they happen suddenly and usually out-of-context, NOT usually in major battle scenes, of which we've had several in this show. quite a few were knocked off here: both Mormonts (and both were badass as usual), Edd, Theon... so, we didn't get off scot-free, and I think most of those could be expected. I also did expect Grey Worm to die following his retirement talk, and possibly Sansa down in the crypts because that was just the dumbest foreshadowing ever - figured headless-Ned would just eat her, or something - but otherwise, that was about what should have happened.
hearing that they filmed for 55 straight nights in freezing temps just for this 1 episode is mind-blowing. kudos to the cast & crew, because that was as epic as anything ever done in the name of entertainment.
The first people to die in the Battle of Winterfell were the HBO lighting crew. :mrgreen:

it's not that i wanted more characters to die, just that it is not believable that they didn't.
yeah, about the lighting- really was the only downside for me. especially since my hbo app is 1080i and even though i have a 4k tv its not super high end so i have alot of black crush normally with my set.
Obviously overdark mass action scenes are a trick CGI has been using for years to limit the amount of detail needed to process but in 2019 i thought we were passed that for super high budget productions like this. I mean, they never went this far dark in the past and i guess thats cause they never had to do a 90 minute show with that much action.
It was bearable though, and once the 1080p eps drop on PSN ill be buying this one first and then i think it'll feel better for me personally.
I have a good tv for dark scenes and a lot of this episode was difficult to make out. My theory is that it saved them a shit-ton of money not having to create the level of detail in those scenes that would have been necessary if it was a daytime battle, especially when the dragons were flying in the dead's airspace. That was dark, snowy, and windy as fuck. You had a general idea that shit was happening, but nothing specific. And it had to be cheaper to produce...
Honestly, I really dug the confusion of the darkness. I think it made sense. Facing the Night King and his army of the dead in the barely visible conditions of nighttime added to the whole vibe of the episode, which, to me, kinda felt like a horror movie with an epic battle. And, as mentioned above, it totally saved them money, so that, no doubt, was part of it. But, setting aside budget issues, it makes more sense from a narrative point of view, IMO. This was way more of a murky "dead of the night" battle where one can't quite see what the hell is happening than a battle fought in the clarity and brightness of day.

I was fine with it from the fog of war perspective. I feel like we're conditioned to think of battle as colorful and clear like in the movies, whereas reality is probably far from that. I'm also glad I don't know what it's truly like...

Sure, my tv isn't top of the line and I saw some pixelation, but I didn't expect not to given what I was working with.
I thought it worked thematically; the unknown terror in the dark, the sense of claustrophobia. Honestly I thought it was part of the artistic expression of the filmmakers.
But considering all the word around on the darkness, I wouldn't be surprised if this episode becomes some sort of benchmark for people trying out higher end tvs since darkness is the hardest thing to render in budget units. Kinda like audiophiles keep music on hand they might not even listen to regularly to test speakers. Using physical media and the "best" equipment they can afford, that is.

I feel like the level of disappointment that I've seen online for this episode reflects of poorly set expectations. I think that sets squarely on the shoulders of the producers. if you'r making a six-episode final series, people are, logically, going to expect a lot of bang for their buck.

On the other hand, her failure to circle around and light those sailboat fuckers up from the backside was borne out of grief. She's a shitty warrior. that is true, she really dropped the ball a few times. even back when she was defending that big pyramid thing a few seasons ago, that was a badly miscalculated battle.

Agreed that the show has been leading up to this whole time, anybody shocked/surprised by it wasn't really paying attention, "Fire and Blood" has always been Danys destiny. And it sort of served as both pandering and at the same time an indictment of what we the audience wanted see. I definitely got a "are you not entertained" vibe from it by the end. By giving us what we've been waiting for in such graphic detail, it makes you question why a story like this appeals to us in the first place.

I just re-watched. With all of the great cinematography and what not, there was some bad editing. At one point Cersi's hand is like, "we need to go now, it's not safe," as she stood in the window. She was all, "but the Red Keep is the safest place in the city." He was all "the unsullied have breached the gate"
Dany was already burning down the towers in the Red Keep before this was said. Fuck the unsullied there is a fire breathing dragon 10 feet away from your fucking window burning down the building you are in. :hereitisyousentimentalbastard

Yeah, that whole bit and the anit-climactic end to Cersi and Jamie were big downers for me. I really wanted a more 'Game of Thrones' end for Cersi. 8 seasons of brutality and she gets to quietly disappear as a building collapses?!? Jamie, Tyrion or Arya were supposed to kill her. (Technically, Jamie and Tryion did kill her... Tyrion had Jamie lead her to those tunnels and Jamie did as he was told. Being in those tunnels killed her, so it

This season was a perfect example of the dangers of executive producers "taking" over a story.
Wish I had the will power to not watch any of those episodes and wait to read the book(s).

But seriously, all things considered i think they put a bow on things as best they could and overall i enjoyed this season.
It all really comes down to i think they couldnt have done any better considering any sort of realistic production time/budget restraints.
I mean the whole epilogue of Bran beign named king really could have stretched half a season if they were able to do that.
Both last season and this season probably got cut down to 33% total of how much the storyline should have afforded.
Though waiting for the 5 years of production that probablywould have taken is just completely unrealistic, so I'm content with what we got.
Now we just need an Arya goes west of Westeros spinoff. :samurai:

Welp, late to the game but I finally finished this up after starting the whole series over from episode 1.
I kinda didn't hate the last season as much as everyone else I guess. Clearly, things got rushed but I only really despised the final 20 minutes. Bran the Broken? You've got to be f'n kidding me. :|

around but there's so much focus on Jon Snow and his journey that Tyrion's path seems less.... epic perhaps?... but really, he was the glue between everything..

That's sort of inline with the book Fire and Blood. They definitely do that in the book, I'm expecting a pretty serious time jump in the next couple of episodes. Also, the book has a humorous, and often wrong, narrator. If they had used that the show would have a different feel, but it would have a more Tyrion-like humor to it.
