Certainly in the conversation for best ever jazz pianist with the likes of Ellington, Monk and Hancock.

Spinning the Real McCoy right now and it's simply fantastic.

RIP.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

Expansions is a classic, a great showcase for Tyner's sound.

Coltrane's classic quartet is all jammin in the afterlife now.

A Love Supreme is one of the books of my bible. I study it regularly. Tyner is in my soul from that album alone. So much more from him I need to learn, but so much I've already taken in.
I've been coming to where I am from the get go
Find that I can groove with the beat when I let go
So put your worries on hold
Get up and groove with the rhythm in your soul

Words can't really describe how deep this album goes.

A masterpiece.

Dude was a monster

I saw him about 5 times, both in Cambridge MA and the Blue Note in NY. Always great. He just pounded those keys, played piano with the same intensity that Trane played tenor

memorable "side men" I saw were Michael Brecker, Billy Cobham, and a special appearance by Savion Glover at McCoy's 70th birthday celebration

Tranes great quartet is reunited

RIP

This one is heavy.
I love every piece of music I've heard him create or contribute to .
RIP
Everything is connected, because it's all being created by this one consciousness. And we are tiny reflections of the mind that is creating the universe.

One of the first jazz cds I bought in college back in the day was The John Coltrane Quartet - Africa/Brass.  The alternate take of Greensleeves has long been a favorite.  RIP McCoy.
