Excellent Pick.  I will blare this shit today as I sit around drinking and eating greasy food (thank you state of GA for the "official" state of emergency down here).

How much snow ya got there ramz? I plan on doing the same since the 8in. of snow we've got caused Wofford to cancel class for the second time in 150+ years. Phish rage + stocked up on beer for the snow-in = happy phil
8-9 inches.  I walked to kroger to get plenty of beer and oven pizza.  George will be proud.   :hereitisyousentimentalbastard
Can we talk about the Dead?  I'd love to talk about the fucking Grateful Dead, for once, can we please discuss the Grateful FUCKING Dead!?!?!?!

Set I:
Makisupa-  I think many of you know my thoughts on this tune.  However, there is a level of space and chillness in this version that draws me.  So it works really well here.  Solid pick for opener.  Nifty little segue into

Maze- Holy rage Batman.  I forgot Trey could play Maze like this.  Sweet fuck baby Jesus in the ass.  Dissonant and Chromatic runs melt together to form a psychedelic fretboard from hell.  To Gumbo up my post, "YEEEEEEEEEEES TREY!!!!!!!."  Killer version and with the second song of the first set, my face got fucked.  Sickness.

Bag- Tight version.  I really dig the beginning of the breakdown/Trey Solo.  The pseudo funk works well here, and it only builds the anticipation for when Trey just tears into the solo.  Well done Boys.

Mule-Great version.  Ladies and gentlemen, Page McConnell.  Page straight rips this.  We're on pace for a perfect game ladies and Gentlemen.

PYITE-Pretty tight version.  The kind of play with the intro.  Lots of energy in this version.  I love hearing them nail the Landlady section.  Almost brings a tear to me eye.

Simple-> Catapult -> Simple-Teh Dankness.  Dirty, dirty simple.  After the melodic section, they play this awesome chord theme that segues into Catapult.  Well Done, the segue back into Simple is flawless.  The segue into Lizards is damn good too.  Just one of those WOW moments.

Lizards- God damn.  So tight, like a 16 year old virgin, this one begs to be laid down and pummeled.  They pound this shit like a porn star.  Pro'd

WWMGGW-Perfect set closer.  Well played.  Nice solo by Trey.

SET BREAK.  Smoke 'em if you got 'em.  Beer me.  Be back in 20-25.

SET BREAK.  Smoke 'em if you got 'em.  Beer me.  Be back in 20-25.

Set II

Possum- Great version.  Gets spacey and atypical for a moment.  They bring it back around and peak it hard.  Very solid.

MMGAMOIO- Solid version.

Axilla- Shit rages.  Killer version!

Reba- This is the clear highlight of the show for me.  This is an amazing Reba.  Good god.  They nail the composition and the jam straight rages, and gets atypical.

Nellie Kane- Solid.

Sweet Adeline- Nailed it.

Bowie- Loved it,  they nail the composed section and the jam straight rages.  Huge, huge peak.

Golgi- A few slubs, but still a solid version.

Encore:

the horse -> Silent- Tight,  great slot in the encore position

Rocky Top- Solid.

Okay, this one is a grade A heater.  Both sets fucking are face melters.  I give this one a solid A.

Raged this this morning and loved it.

You know it's money when the opener gets a little spacey (Makisupa) and goes > the serial rage (Maze).  Bag is strong and on point. Mule didn't hit me but is probably good if you like that sort of thing. Nice PYITE there, too.

Simple > Catapult > Simple > Lizards is rawsome, revelatory improv an dkiller playing from all parties. Perfect showcase performance. WMGGW is a beautiful closer, of course.

Possum rips the joint up. I didn't google it, but I'm thinking that they probably had to do major renovations to the theater after this show. All that fire on the stage probably caused some severe smoke damage.

Jumping ahead, Reba is just.... Wow. I've listened to it four times today. It gets so damned quiet and deconstructed in such a beautiful manner before building back up to a "typical awesome" closing jam.

Nice bluegrass & babershop break before Bowie gets all dark and shit. What!?! Only 13 minutes?! they must've got 3.0'd in 94! HA! 3.0 has wet dreams about Bowies like this. All-around solid.

Golgi isn't perfect. Who fucking cares.

Horse > Silent, Rockytop is classic 94 and therefore fine by me.

Excellent pick.

McGrupp

Nice reviews dudes.

I'll be spinning this and writing up a review tonight.
Just two whiskies, officer.

I'm not sure if I followed this thread correctly, but what guys are saying is that Dave Thomas sold crack in inner-city DC in the mid-80's, right?

PIE-GUY

Set 1:

Makisupa Policeman – Freakin' great way to start a show. Back in 94 Makisupes was always a treat.

Maze – bold solo from Page followed by a scorcher from Trey. Love it when you can hear Trey screaming above his guitar at points!

AC/DC Bag – Early part of the jam features some crunchy guitar from Trey. Dig it.

Scent of a Mule – I never didn't like this song, especially the traditional Trey vs. Page Mule Duel's of 94.

Punch You In the Eye – Somewhere between 12/30/93 and fall tour 94 Page started playing all the intro stuff to PYITE on the Rhodes instead of the piano. I approved wholeheartedly. Love it!

Simple -> Catapult -> Simple – Never mind that the Simple jam gets off to a great start (and it does). The Catapult jam is what this one is all about. Love Mike's playing throughout this thing. Page is on that Clav that he just added to his arsenal at the beginning of this fall tour for the first time (the first couple of shows that fall I only saw him use it for Guyute, but he was really comfortable with it by December). By the time Fish is chanting "Saxaphoooooone" my face just melts!! My old tape of this set had an unfortunate tape flip right in the middle of all this.

The Lizards – One of my favorite songs ever...

While My Guitar Gently Weeps – Still pretty fresh from the Halloween show just over a month earlier. I love how slow and patient the tempo is. Really captures the mood of the original without imitating it.

Set 2:

Possum – love the nearly 3 minutes of intro! Also, love how quiet it gets at the beginning of the jam (if only the crowd would shut up ;-) – oh wait, they do!) Mike even gets a turn at quiet jamming!

My Mind's Got a Mind of its Own – much like SOAMule, this one never gets old for me.

Axilla (Part II) – love the craziness in the "Shine that thing in my face" outtro.

Reba – If a Reba shows up in the second set, it almost has to be good. This one does not disappoint. They are really listening to each other here. Love the stop-start jamming.

Nellie Kane, Sweet Adeline – Fall 94 acoustic mini-sets FTMFW!! I know it's just one acoustic and one a capella number, but still... no mics - gotta love it!

David Bowie – Great intense Bowie... this is the tour of the first HUGE Bowies. This is not one of them, but this one smokes!

Golgi Apparatus – I saw you!

Encore: The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Rocky Top – Great encore. Can't complain.

Overall, this is a solid A show. The first set lived in my car's tape deck for a long long time. The recording Aug posted is an upgrade to any prior recordings I've had. Thanks for that!! Great pick!
I've been coming to where I am from the get go
Find that I can groove with the beat when I let go
So put your worries on hold
Get up and groove with the rhythm in your soul
