9) RJ - "Idi i smotri" aka "Иди и смотри" aka "Come and See" (1985) directed by Elem Klimov

It is on NetFlix but it is not streaming. Queue it up early.

Also, this is not for the faint hearted or the kiddies in your household.
Whats with russian movies being so insanely intense/heavy?

Have you ever BEEN a Russian?

not exactly a happy-go-lucky place/group of people.
I guess that's true... Same thing as there being so many serial killers from oregon/washington...

You'd think there would be more in Alaska. They can all see Russia from their houses and all, you know.

And yet the women can be smoking hot.
Sometimes we live no particular way but our own.

So, whoever's week(s) it is should start a thread specific to their film.

I have The Thing in my instant queue... Been ages since I've watched it.

In thinking about my pick I can't decide if this group should take on some ser. Russian cinema or if I should lighten up...

i'm not sure how netflix does all of their streaming, but i've seen in some cases that movies are NOT widescreen, but pan and scan.

The Thing should not be seen in pan and scan. it's shot in 'scope, like john carpenter shoots all of his movies, which is extremely wide, 2:35 to 1. so watching in pan and scan you lose at least one quarter of the image. don't cheat yourselves!

Come And See.
awesome.
i watched that off of your recommendation years ago and loved it. but yeah...that is one seriously bleak movie.

selection 1 looks interesting:
Quote
Scientists working in Antarctica are forced to abandon their research after a helicopter crashes near their camp, bringing a lone dog into their midst. But the plot thickens when the otherworldly canine changes form in the middle of the night. As it turns out, the dog is a shape-shifting alien that can attack animals -- and unsuspecting humans. Kurt Russell stars in this creepy John Carpenter-directed remake of the 1950s classic.
