increase my bt downloading speed?

hey, i'm trying to increase my speed downloading bt's. i'm know this is a pretty basic thing but i'm struggling with opening my ports. does anyone know how to do this on XP. I also want to turn off my fire wall correct? any help would be great thanks!

matt's right, utorrent will forward your ports and configure your firewall for you when you install it as part of the install process.  Easy as that.
