Not to toot my own horn, but I totally called that YEM encore pre show! I'm kickass
I will definitely be giving this second set a proper listen.
Looks like a pretty sweet Phish show to me.
i missed the first 3 songs of the second set, was the Light or Twist any good? i like the piper, it was cool how they peaked and then broke it backk down. the YEM jam started out as solid as any YEM of 3.0. The way Page waited to start soloing during the Tramp part and it allowed the band to kinda break it down and sat the tone for the start of the jam. Trey killed it. I was dancing in the seat of my car.
Many people here know more about the Phish then
me, but I could swear we witnessed some jamming tonight. More tomorrow when I get home

nice. looking forward to hearing more about it.
Anybody know the count on how many songs phish played this leg? It has to be 200 or so, on July 4th I think it was like 194 or so?
Does this YEM actually have some legs?
official song count i believe stands at 207 now.
Piper is over 15 minutes. Bested in length only by YEM. Thats the real Phish.
Great looking show to me.

Ya...the stand ins have been showing up for the entire tour previously.... :shakehead:
Best tour of 3.0? It certainly looks that way so far......it just kept getting better and better.....Trey is finally starting to show some signs of his former self, and its really nice to hear/see....he's still nowhere near the consistant levels of Mike and Page but it is progress in the right direction.....
Let's just hope they continue to play durring the break and build on the momentum they gathered on the first leg....if the trend continues, dare I say that they are finally getting near where they
should be playing wise....
Set 2 was monstrous. I didn't know 3.0 was capable of consistently jamming throughout a set like that. The Light/Twist/KDF segment was nuts, capped off with a brilliant and unexpected post-KDF jam. Don't sleep on this set at all.

We could easily put together a great shows worth of highlights from this run. Definitely the best first leg of summer imo and probably the best of 3.0 too. I watched the Fee video late last night and was blown away by how well they have progressed since last year. There finally seems to be an upward progression in not just the confidence to take a jam out there but the cohesiveness of the band as well. Thankfully we have Mike and Page to pave the way but overall there is a lot of new music to be discussed.
I am at work and can't listen yet but I'm curious about the SOAM. Can anyone give an honest review?
This is easily a contender for best 2nd set of the tour:
Axilla > Light -> Twist > Kill Devil Falls > My Friend My Friend > Swept Away > Steep > Piper^ > Free > Kung > Harry Hood > Cavern > David Bowie
Band didn't stop playing the whole time! Look at all those segues.
Not trying to be a sensationalist, but I really really liked what I heard on the stream last night. Light was nice. Twist was ok. KDF was atypical (and even kinda type II ish). Myfe was raging. swept away > steep is the perfect mid 2nd set breather. Piper was easily the highlight of the set.... lots of good thematic playing from Trey and also went to type II territory after a peak. Cavern fakeout closer > pretty cool bowie which also had a face to it.
I'm super happy with that set. After how disappointed I was walking away from Jones Beach, I'm really glad that they ended this leg with a show like this.
Can't wait to listen back!

Split didn't sound TOO messy and seemed above average for 3.0.
Last night was a great :phish: show. 24 hour rule be damned. It was friggin great.
Yep. This show was on. The only song that felt awkward to me was KDF. Doesn't fit in the midst of trip vehicles.

Truth. Listened up to the Hood so far and really dig how theyve played everything. I thought the end of Light>Twist was really good, and the end of KDF before MFMF was really solid, and i hate KDF.
Steep is really good too! Nice little lite jammy bit.
I re-listened to Piper. It's still good.
Might be my fav jam of the tour, as I never really got into that Cinci Twist as much as a lot of others did.
SARATOGA SPRINGS — A naked woman plunged from a 25-foot-high light pole that she had climbed Sunday outside the Saratoga Performing Arts Center during the Phish concert, authorities said Monday.
The woman, who was "under the influence of something" in the Victoria Mall section of Saratoga Spa State Park, was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital at 9:36 p.m., said Sally Drake, a state parks department spokeswoman.
Phish played three concerts at SPAC over the weekend, with 20,000 in attendance each night.
The woman's name and condition could not immediately be obtained.

Just got back home.... too tired and lazy to give anything but a generic :wtu: review for the whole weekend right now:
Shows were incredibly fun and high energy -- all 3 SPAC crushed the JB shows in both playing and crowd energy, imo, with this third night being my favorite. Was SO psyched to see La Grange and I really dug this Piper and SOAM jam. Phish is still the best touring band out there. booyah.

Surely there has to be some security camera footage out there.
this second set is working out nicely so far. i was amused at trey saying something about switching the verses during Light. has anyone ever paid any attention to the lyrics of that song?
and then an Inna Gadda Da Vida groove going on in Twist.
Thought this was the best night of the run. I LOVED the If I Could and thought the Split jam was pretty dope. I liked the way the song has evolved in 3.0, it teetered on falling apart for the last few minutes but it really worked for me.
Second set was just a great jam. Heard the Twist coming from a mile away. Piper and Hood were both solid and you can't argue with a YEM encore.
It was great meeting a few new-to-me paugers; Mango Emay and Mar, and of course seeing usual faces Wtu, Matt, Kelley, Redden. And big thanks to Pie and Superfreakie for making the whole weekend complete. Paug rules!

Whatever it is, it's SUPER Adult Contemporary.
I think Light is a pretty good song and has great jam potential. It's definitely cheesy, but so are a ton of other Phish songs that I love

Yeah, you're right. Trey is too melodic in that song.
the bowie is beyond solid.
the light jam is bright.
the KDF is played with some great authoratative trey licks and then gordo takes it somewhere completely different.
the SOAM is one of the cooler SOAM jams Ive heard.
the Piper is really tight and has a write-home-about it jam.
shows gives me some real hope.

Sophist & The Whores of Babylon
Overall I thought it was a solid show. The first set just kinda sits there until Foam (which, except for the ending, was pretty slick). But I really enjoyed If I Could through La Grange and I thought that Melt made nTelos its bitch. The second set was definitely nice though I think I'd still give the edge to set II from ntelos2 or Burgettstown. But I thought the Steep was well placed and well played and I loved that they pushed past the initial peak in Piper when I was sure they were gonna ripcord. I'd have enjoyed myself if I was there for sure.
As for hope for the future, I've been burned by that before so I'm gonna wait and see what leg 2 brings.
I still don't get why nTelos II enters the conversation of best set of the tour, Burgettstown, Cinci and even AC1 all had better 2nd sets by a mile.
Still need to relisten to this show but from the stream I was really impressed by the Piper.

Might be my fav jam of the tour, as I never really got into that Cinci Twist as much as a lot of others did.
My favorite parts of jams now are always the last minute or so, this piper included.. right at the end is when I REALLY want it to go further
I just want them to break through that wall (for lack of a better word)
the first set is nothing out of the ordinary for the tour, i.e. fine but i'm not going to relisten, save for that Split, which is hot. certainly a lot better than the earlier version we all argued over. and La Grange is fun, if a bit messy.
nice second set. flow, even. i remember that.
wish I was able to meet up with the other paugers - poor prior planning and text receive fail on my part...
Not much to add to what has been already said, show was outrageous.
Cavern was particularly appropriate - stepped into some primal soup and didn't wipe it from my shoe quick enough.
personal highlights
set 1-gumbo (page solo), If I Could > set break
set 2- the whole thing, especially My Friend>Steep >to the end
YEM encore blew me away (called it as set 2 closer)

about time you figured this out. Next time you have to come spend it with the kool kids. We had a great zone in the pav for the last night, great sound too with lots of seats. They might not have been our proper seats but it was our ordained section. The Saturday night we were a little farther back in the pav and I thought the sound was really grinding in the highend, even the keys, but that venue (balcony) steals the lower register.
most have mentioned the highlights already, but I seem to remember the Party Time having a real nice slinky jam.
Obviously had one helluva weekend... Thanks to all who helped make it such, including but not limited to, birdman and his brother, superfreakie, wtu, sunrise, MBW! And everyone else.
Two big standout highlights from the weekend for me. Both were great major-key jams where all the pistons were firing and phish was playing like I remember from my youth. The first was Sneaking Sally on Friday and the second was Piper on Sunday. Those two jams make all the effort to get there worth it.
Lotsa love in that place as they dropped into YEM. Perfect, perfect encore.

definitely have to plan better next time, and count on some better luck to get pavs instead of lawns.
Actually, the sound on the lawn was quite good. We had enough room to dance (most of the time), It did get congested, and moving around was tough. I had to consider my fluid management (spare bottle under the blanket won't fly anymore) . I'm young at heart but my prostate is almost 54.
Also, we got to be entertained by Glo-Man, who was on the ramps for most of the 2nd set

Piper was pretty good upon re-listen, guess I kind of liked it less than I did at the time though........ Anyone catch the similarity to the Festival 8 Piper around 5:05?
Think I still liked the AC one better
My 40th Phish show and I really dug this show. I loved the Split. The Piper was pretty easily the jam highlight of tour for me. Thematic peaking that I've been chasing since the Camden Sand. I think Trey really broke some new ground in that Piper, as I was surprised to see him keep the jam going even after they peaked it.

yep. it's some decent Phish.
(I really wish that KDF had been a dirty Tweezer.)
listened again, like it as much as I did when I was there.
some thoughts (I know I implied thinking was no good, and maybe it's not, but anyway)
the jams for the most part "made sense" - some were shorter, some were less short, but they had a beginning, middle and end - for the most part they didn't seem like someone (ie Trey) just cut them short.
I would have liked the KDF jam to be longer, but then a jam like that with KDF was a nice surprise, so I'll take it.
The only jam I felt ended prematurely was Hood. Bowie could have been longer but ended at it's natural progression.
Don't get me wrong, I love improv and endless jamming. But, to me, a shorter or middle length, well played jam is better than long, wandering musical masturbation.
OK, time to stop thinking again.
So.
I've been trying to figure out what to say about this show, especially the 2nd set. I'm still totally unsure, except to say that we have Light, KDF, Piper, Hood, and Bowie, all of which are top versions of 3.0. Piper is easily the best of 3.0, and I'd love to hear a legit argument positing otherwise. KDF, I'm going to declare the best until a thorough re-listen of whatever the other good one this tour was, Blossom? I forget. But the fact that A) Trey kills the main jam, B) Trey pushes it into a reprise, and then C) they turn it into Type II for a few minutes into an actual -> MFMF.... basically makes it the winner.
Now, this whole weekend. I mean, guys... this IS the best 3.0 run of shows, right?
I mean, I've been re-listening to everything over the last week since the run trying to get a handle of the actual music played.
The Sally -> Ghost from 7/6 is enormous. The 7/7 2nd set is great, especially the Caspian jam, Mule, and Mike's is pretty great. and 7/8 second set, I mean...fuck. Yeah, MFMF is kinda stumbled, but who gives a flying god damn fuck, right? Like, are you going to complain about that, when it was surrounded by the glory of that Light and the Piper?
This show, specifically, is a new Phish, and I'd be hard-pressed to legitimately consider an argument to the contrary, although I would absolutely love to hear any such opinions.
I mean, my best friend Bob, who typically bases shows on a setlist/DMB-basis (ie: they played song X, and Y thats why it was a great show, not because of the jam in Z) and who would only get jazzed over Suzy, Sparkle, Ocelot, Free, and Caspian, actually gives a shit about jamming now because of the Sally -> Ghost, the KDF outro jam, and the Piper.
His words were something to the effect of "Now I understand what you mean when you say that Phish can create compositions in the jamming and not just noodle over chord progressions".
WTU: you are right about Piper, it is very similar to the F8 Piper at 5:40ish. Made me think of the Manchester Ghost 2nd movement tho, before it glides into Mango. Similar.

Similar.
dude - going to have to say the best KDF is the 'roo '09 version.
....for ser?
He's definitely serious. I've suggested before that the Bonnaroo KDF is the first big jam of 3.0.
Too bad those Bonnaroo SBDs sound so hideous, they're unlistenable... not that I would actually want to listen to them fwiw, it's just too bad.
