Any thoughts on the decision yesterday?  How do you feel about outlawing "partial birth" abortions?  Personally, I am all for it.  I consider it murder.  IMHO, the baby has been brought into the world by that point.  And they said yesterday that 90% of all abortions happen in the first 12 weeks.  But I am curious to see what others thought?

For me, this is nothing more than a political move (for both sides) to rally the troops for the 2008 election.

The ruling doesn't outlaw partial birth abortion in the case of a medical emergency, so the option is still available if the women needs it to save her life.

Sorry, I should have worded my original post more better.   :-D  You are correct Phan.  BUT....I will say I hadn't thought about it as a political move yet.....puts an interesting twist on it all.

In my view anything can happen where the mother cannot  perform her duties as a mother at any period of gestation.  I'm sure the frequency of abortions past the third trimester are less but I don't think we should close those doors because it may lead to more rogue clinics.
Interesting how technical the definition is.

I do not believe it is the government's place to legislate a woman's control over her own body.

(Big surprise)

I love how conservatives care so deeply about the fate of fetuses, but the moment it's born they couldn't care less about providing that child with education or health care.

first off, i'm not really down with abortions unless its a medical emergency.

but outlawing them leads to coat hanger clinics in the back alley. which is frightening.

partial birth abortion isn't right, tho. so i could go for outlawing them unless a medical emergency arises.
oh politics... when will you leave us something to call our own? (like our bodies)

Please, propose an answer to the health care system....I'm all ears.

I agree with outlawing PBAs, but IMO EVERY law should cover the grey areas and admit that there may be a case where the law does not apply.

That being said, there's still not many people who can argue that this is a good practice.

QuoteThe procedure at issue involves partially removing the fetus intact from a woman's uterus, then crushing or cutting its skull to complete the abortion.

Although perceived as a win for conservatives, it's just outlawing a method.  I'm sure the "coathanger in an alley" method has also been outlawed.  It's a good thing.

I tend to think the doctors that are willing to perform it have a more informed professional opinion than politicians and judges.

Me too.  Now go find a doctor that thinks this is a good practice...  I think most would have another method.
