I swear I'll never understand this whole watch thing.

ETA: I'm getting vertigo just looking at this thing.

OMG it's really expensive. $349

About 2 minutes ago I was going to pre-order two of them. Now... not sure.

Lulz. An iPad is more affordable than an Apple Watch. And it won't be ready for the holiday? Ball = dropped.

Investors loving Apple Pay. The watch? Not so much.

From my experience watching the market, anyone buying/selling Apple stock based on product rumours or product announcements is unlikely to make money.

Indeed. Saw something this morning that AAPL on average returns 23% in the 6 months following a new iPhone announcement. Always fun to watch the real time reactions though.

It tells time with atomic clock precision (because it syncs with one).

Not selling them this year is not a ball-dropping move. It's strategic. Their customers will invest heavily in the new phones. then, next year, the watch will hit the streets. This ensures two amazing quarters for Apple. In the mean time, developers who were not in on the early access program for the AppleWatch will be able to develop for it increasing the number of apps to what will likely be an impressive amount.

AppleWatches will be on more than half of the major hollywood stars at the Oscars. People will flood to them.

People scoffed at the iPod.

NFC payment will be a big draw.
All the health/fitness/heart rate monitoring stuff
Controlling my AppleTV will be gimmicky but cool
Turn by turn walking directions

That said I wanted it to be a standalone product, with it's own internet connection, and some wireless Beats Audio bluetooth headphones for taking calls and listening to tunes.

Yeah, I'm not buying this. Cash flow is king, and one jaw dropping quarter beats two good quarters. Plus, early adopters were always going to be preordering this the first day possible so lack of apps is not relevant to them.

They had promised new product lines in 2014 and they failed to deliver. No way this was on purpose.

A new iPhone is clearly not a new product category, and Cook has at least implying (I'd argue he's done more than that) for a while now that this was the year (http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/24/5644896/apple-closer-than-ever-to-entering-new-product-category-ceo-says). In the scheme of things, it doesn't matter when it goes on sale, but there's no way an early 2015 rollout was a part of some concerted strategy. COmpanies want cash now, not in two quarters. Factor in the required pairing with iPhone and no mention of battery life (spoiler alert: it'll suck), and this comes across to me as a disappointment. I'm not saying Apple won't revolutionize the wearable market, I'm just saying this doesn't look to be it. But yes, I LOL'd at the iPad, so...

I don't have any shares of Apple to sell but I have considered shorting them. That's a dangerous strategy in a "market" that's not allowed to go down though.

all i have to say about smart watches is i hope apple has made theirs with a good battery life. because if that shit dies in 12 hours then you are just stuck wearing a piece of plastic on your wrist that does nothing.

I think this is a fine start for them in the "wearable" market. It's an easy pass for me since I don't wear a watch. The fact that I can already do a majority of the same stuff with my phone isn't motivation enough to start.

Anyone going to pre-order next month?

Looking at a 42mm SportWatch then maybe get a nicer band for my work day.

Sounds stupid but the past few days I've been thinking about how much time I waste pulling out my phone every time I get a notification... the Watch will kill a lot of those unnecessary distractions.

I'm intrigued and will try it out in a store before committing, but they definitely have potential.  I agree with mattstick in that it will reduce having to constantly check notifications on my phone all day.

And yes, those new MacBooks are amazing.  I'm really hoping that Thunderbolt doesn't go the way of Firewire, as I love my Drobo...

Yes, I am intrigued by the health/exercise monitoring aspects of this watch. I am looking at the same model, black band. One band will do. If it can truly do what it says it can do in terms of calories burned, memory of past activity, etc...it is pretty slick, and being a nurse I always need to count rhythms/rates so watches are a necessary evil.

That said, NOT thrilled this has to be charged daily, or tied into a minimum level of iPhone (obv trying to get one to propel the other and vice versa). The latter is particularly lame. They should be selling these to you for $49.99 whenever you upgrade on your phone if they want to do that nonsense.

But, I am in for this first round.

Unfortunately those won't be out until the official Watch SDK ships and you can have real apps ON it that load quickly, but that's probably in the fall...  so in the meantime, the stock apps kick ass, and if you've used Dark Sky before, it's just as great on the Watch.  Right now the killer app is that it is just a natural extension of the Apple notification ecosystem, and does so seamlessly.  If you exercise (or want to), those abilities are awesome too.

Picked up the "Classic Buckle" to class up the Sport Watch, trying out a new watch face as well.

2 things:

1. Bob and Phil both wearing Apple Watch last night
2. I wore the watch for almost 24 hours yesterday and only got the battery down to 27%

damn that looks really good with the black sport!

noticed Bobby's watch, not Phil's - will have to pay more attention tonight.

and yes, the battery life is significantly better than i hoped for too.  i've gotten 2 full days of usage out of it...

Phil wore one?
I didn't know they were making a sweatband edition.

Super late to the party, but I just got the Apple Watch and this thing is AWESOME.

It's especially convenient for me because I get to listen to music thru my headphones for a good part of my work day, and it's nice to be able to navigate my library via a watch.

However, I got the 38mm, and quickly realized I think I want the 42, so am going to have to exchange it.

I'll be an apple watch guy come 12/25. I know it. The wife is no good at surprises.

Might get my wife a series 2 for mothers day this weekend.  Kind of on the fence.  I think it might end up being one those presents you buy someone because really it is something you want.  Not sure if she will like it.

I want my wife to wear one so I can mute her amazingly loud notifications.

Ha. Well, my wife always lets her phone just go dead, so I think she might do the same with the watch.  She down;t check notifications or anything.  She has like 2500 unread emails lol.  Drives me crazy.

Got the Tag Connected watch as a gift.
Super sweet piece, but seems kinda crazy just to get some alerts and stuff.

The Carrot apps are great. Esp the weather app (carrot5). They use humor and have a cool layout. Plus, its a face complication, so I have the weather/forecast, including a funny one-liner on my watch face at all times.

New watch pic while holding baby... not much noticeable improvement with the Series II, gold watch and cocoa band looks slick though...

Good on ya for being motivated enough to do it.
