the laptop  i just got has a mini spdif out... does anyone know what  i need to hook it into my receiver?

More than likely this is an optical TOSLINK out.  You'll need an 3.5mm optical > Toslink cable to run into your receiver.  That is, if you receiver has a TOSLINK input.  If your receiver has a RCA SPDIF input, you 'll need to run the TOSLINK into a HOSA ODL276 to convert from TOSLINK to SPDIF.

BTW, I've only ever seen a TRS SPDIF output on the Denecke AD20.  That require a special 3.5mm > RCA Digi cable.  If this s indeed what you need, seek out Taperssection and find a cable makers...

For those that don't know, TRS is Tip/Ring/Shaft.  Your standard headphone 1/8 plug is a 3.5mm TRS.

i jus ordered a mini>optical cable, i think it'll work, but i've read that i might have to change my laptops output settings to allow digital or something... we'll see...

wooooohooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1    :music:

it worked !!! i finally can Bump my digital music collection over my HT!! it only took me about 4 years to get to this point... i'd like to thank... GOD... and rowjimmy...
