It was a long pisser line during Mexi Cous.

Good seats once again, thanks to Pie-Guy!
I also took a piss during Mexican Cousin.  I'll never forget that trip to the bathroom.  The dose I got from an old head hit me like a freight train, and along with the chocolate I had eaten, I was on cloud 9.

Awesome read, so far, rj.  Thanks for all of this. :-)

"Because," said the Lord, "Sandpeople always ride single-file, to hide their numbers."

its funny as i read this second night compilation i got this feeling of "...and, it's all over"  after the post of the length of the gumbo.

i mean, after all the years of anticipation, gumbo's crazy posts here, etc.---5 min.? lol, wow.

really was there any chance after that for 3.0?

game over.

But didn't we have an amazing time?

I'm so glad you came out for those shows.

So, I've been relistening to the shows as I've been compiling these posts... There is some nice stuff here.

For 3.0, that is.

We now pick up where we left off, in the break preceeding

Night Two, Set Two

DWD will open set 2....

on paper that was the best setlist so far

I'm calling AC/DC Bag, but it will go into DWD.

drinking a 2007 & 2008 Bigfoot for the 2nd set!  Cheers!  I cant wait for sunday!!!

DWD is the safe bet.

I'll take Buried Alive for the long shot.

I'm feeling Bag

That's rather lewd.

cities opener

I unfortunately think that's the longshot.

no covers till the encore slots....

Just popped one of these for set two.   :beers:

Beer updates! Another fine LST tradition is born!

Poured myself a fresh Guinness...

One of my favorite concoctions; Brandy and Dr. Pepper

Its weird, but I like it.

(ew)

Rocking the Sunkist Orange soda up in this piece.

Set 4
Rocknroll

there it goes....

oh hell yea!

March 7th, 2009
Hampton Coliseum Hampton, VA

I:  Get Back on the Train, Runaway Jim, Brian and Robert, Split Open and Melt, Heavy Things, Punch You in the Eye, Gumbo, Reba, Mexican Cousin, It's Ice, Halley's Comet, Beauty of a Broken Heart, Guelah Papyrus, Lawn Boy, Run Like An Antelope

II:  Rock and Roll

Set 4
Rocknroll

Did I miss a couple of sets

Fourth of the run, of course...

Set 4
Rocknroll
That works for me.

I dunno...<cough>lame<cough>

HATE!

I must have napped longer than I thought

Set 4
Rocknroll
Looks like we were all way off

That's why I don"t gamble.   :-)

its because none of us are on LSD....
speak for yourself  :-o

its because none of us are on LSD....

speak for yourself

Really?

It was alright

> Jam > limb

ALLSOME :-o
LxL

I like Limb, hopefully the jam sounds different from the Taste yesterday.

Aw, man. Well, I'm glad to hear that great list for those that are there.

Mike's will still be in play tomorrow though.

trainwreck....wowza
The nugs or the setlist

If they play Mike's Groove tonight, I have no idea what I'll do for my first concert, tomorrow. My Phish virginity is nearing its end.

Please don't say Bathtub Gin next, RJ...

I bet they save that too.

Ghost could be coming up here though.

Ghost

Hicks nails it!

II:  Rock and Roll>Jam>Limb By Limb, Ghost

Ghost!
Now this is what I wanted.
Some hopefully improv.
Not much at all yet.

OH NO! Ghost > Mike's Song, not good for me. Don't really care much for Ghost though...

Don't really care much for Ghost though...

Looking for some jams....

QFT

save the jams for sunday hehehe

this is a great thread to pad my post count in!!!

They're not gonna play Mike's tonight.
2nd set opener tomorrow night.  You heard it here first.   :-D

Mikes->2001->simple->week4paug set two

If there is a god...
That include Groove and Simple too?
We can hope

> Piper

YES!

at this point, do u really see the playing style changing?

they haven't stretched too far yet

I think its kinda early to make that call either way.  Haven't heard the rest of the run yet.

I'm going to have to say, so far....only from hearing the first nite.....no...

i was driving around today today thinking piper was going to be played

Looks like the Ghost was about 13 mins.

 This could be real fun

II:  Rock and Roll>Jam>Limb By Limb, Ghost> Piper

both sets look improvisationally promising.

Not the first one IMO

second set looks like a heater tonight.

Birds

Looking for some jams....
Exactly.
Thank you for pointing that out.
I didn't really dig the first night because the only improv to be had was YEM.
Too conservative/uncomfortable IMO
Did you hear how bad YEM started and trey never really sounded comfortable playind it

I think that will change in time with them playing together more.

Last night was disappointing on the improv side

I bet they've got some coming, come summertime

You can see the beginning of the discussions that we've now been having for 2 solid years. "Where are the Jams? They won't jam. They'll be jamming on the upcoming tour!"

Have any of the Gamehendge narration songs been played yet?

No

Nights not over yet.   :-)

It is for a Gamehenge.

hmmm maybe Twist next?

holy crap, birds..

LOL. Six minutes elapsed from the time I posted that Birds was being played to the first comment on it.

any gamehenge song tonight will eliminate the chance for a full narration sunday

I had forgotten about all of this Gamehenge speculation...

If no 'Henge song has emerged by tonight's end I wouldn't best against it. The surprises are flowing so far for me...Fluffhead, Guelah, etc...

First set tomorrow?!?!?

I'm stealing this one!   :beers:

I used that as my desktop for a while...

Wolfmans

Cool

slave would end the set nicely
always like slave as a closer

I love how people are talking about the end of the show as if it's impending... Had they already forgotten the previous night?

This set is officially epic on paper.

Man this set is getting me MOIST!

Trying to be fairly non-spoiled as far as exactly what was played, so I'm not backreading the thread.  Can anyone tell me what the general impression from night 2 is so far without being song specific?

II:  Rock and Roll>Jam>Limb By Limb, Ghost> Piper, Birds of a Feather, Wolfman's Brother

whooops!

No spoilers, lol. Nice try.

Looks like another good one.
Last night's set list looked better on paper, hopefully this one's played better.

I disagree tonight looks better imo
TONIGHT is the better.
Well the second set anyway.

I would perfer a 30 minute hose down out of Jennifer Dances than anything they've played so far.

:-o

Caspian

Sunday night > full Gamehendge narration

Rich, lol.

Also,

Danje is wrong
QFMFT

Set 4
Rocknroll
10:08
How long has set II been going now?

Mikes

And thus, the dreams of those only attending Sunday's show toppled into dust.
Not really, but this does fly right in the face of some of the earlier speculation.

Old school mikes groove it is then

It's officially "ON" now, and I'm 0-3 on my calls.

Noticed...

D'oh! and  :-o

wonder if they'll give out an H2

set 2 is looking quite nice
Epic even!
They needed to settle in apparently.

Tomorrow is going to be the heat

Gamehendge tomorrow is almost guaranteed, there's nothing else left.

I think you're right.

LOL

Hydrogen#

I was fairly giddy at this point because, as many of you know, I prefer the classic Total Mike's rather than the odd variations.

Looks like they're kickin' this one old school.

paug to close it?
gotta be

Very nice whats up with no tweezer reprise???

i think i'm gonna stay up to see if the downloads come up at 1am here again..

# = ecstatic typo

Week, duh

II:  Rock and Roll>Jam>Limb By Limb, Ghost> Piper, Birds of a Feather, Wolfman's Brother, Prince Caspian, Mike's Song>I Am Hydrogen>Weekapug Groove

No Gamehenge songs yet...my head can't process that possibility right now...

Divided Sky, Possum

Also PYITE, but those aren't part of the original piece.

There have been full GH sets with no Possum or Div Sky. Each is more supplemental than necessary.

I just love how we try to support our wild theories...

Zero

that should do it huh?

Rawk bitches!

End set

Nasty set 2

I'd love a Carini

Great encore material right there.

naw, i see that more middle 1st set

Didn't say it has to be tonight.

GOLGI

Encore:
Day in the life

Day in the Life is an excellent cover.

indeed

First time Phish played Hampton, they played ADITL... Loved it.

E:  A Day in the Life

Sick show!  I wonder if they'll play more than one song in the encore again?

Awesome choice

Gnight

axis bold as love

I said "Gnight"!

SICKNESS is an UNDERSTATEMENT!

sunday has some epic potential

No kidding!

And I sure as hell can't wait to hear tonight's!!!  :beers: :beers:

Epic

cant wait to hear that reba.
second that
Well thanks rj and everyone else who updated work, in morning see ya tomorrow

Can't wait to hear that second set.

Thanks again RJ.

You're welcome.

So I guess I'm the only one hoping for a 30 minute Jennifer Dance's?
quite the contrary... i'd LOVE a 30 min jenny dances

What
The
Hell?
 :-o  :?

and on that note....

g'nite

I like that song.  I really don't know why everybody hates it.

:? :?

ANYway...
rr had a comment for us at 3 or 4 in the morning... (Time changed that night so, honestly, I have no idea what time it was really)

straight up.  8-)

That's a strong response. I certainly know that we had a blast and a whole nother show ahead of us too!
Hilarious LST on this night. The Gamehenge talk, seen through the power of retrospect, is just cracking me up. Bummed PhishPhan wasn't going to get his Mike's on Sunday but, oh well.

More next time...

I know it's a lot of reading but, I hope you guys are still hanging in there.
For perspective, I went through ~2000 posts to put this together.

We're gonna move into night three today and things get a little hairy.

I plan on reading it eventually.  thanks for taking the time.

I've been thinking about Hampton '09 a lot lately.  I wasn't there but I remember the excitement.  I remember frantically hitting refresh constantly in the LST threads.  I remember the hub chatroom.

It's amazing how things have changed from my perspective.  I wish I still had that same enthusiasm.

Third night. Some of us were tired, all of us were stoked.
We'll rejoin our cast of wookies and whatnot during some pre-show banter, already in progress:

For tonight:
Tweereprise as an encore tonight to finish the whole thing off.

DWD opener.

fully agree 110%

although 2001 > Tweeprise would be cool too.

Made a list of songs that should be played tonight, by process of elimination.

DWD
Lizards
Mockingbird
Forbin's Ascent
46 Days
Walfredo (Eh)
Fee
Velvet Sea
AC/DC Bag
Free

Simple
Axilla
Bathtub Gin
BBFCFM
Camel Walk
Curtain
Wilson
Tube

Tela
Harpua
My Sweet One
Guyute
Slave To The Traffic Light
Llama
Sloth
Sparkle (Meh)
Destiny Unbound
Golgi Apparatus
Gotta Jibboo
TMWSIY
2001

These are some I though of last night after I heard the news of Mike's Song and couldn't sleep. Thinking A-Z it's pretty easy to remember the songs. Quite a lot of Gamehendge songs, I think the only one used so far are Divided Sky, PYITE, and Possum. These are all original songs too. Care to add (or take away) songs to our list of hopefuls for tonight?

Strong list... I've taken the liberty of bolding those which actually were played.

Good Call. Gin and Wilson tonight, I hope...

Ser.

Emphasis above was not mine... Easy calls though.

Harpua > Gamehenge opener

was thinkin the same thing, if not as set II opener

are you even paying attention to what is going on?

gamehenge is not happening.

now a bathtub opener?  thats more like it

Oh yeah... the Gamehenge talk.

are you even paying attention to what is going on?

whats going on?

exactly... i must be the only one with a level head around here.  the rest of you are following all over yourselves to let phish urinate in your ears.

"Falling" dude.
"Falling".

Also, who are you talking to?

not played:  Llama, The Lizards, Tela, Wilson, AC/DC Bag, Colonel Forbin's Ascent > The Famous Mockingbird, The Sloth, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters

right, but thats not the point.  the point is that they are not playing gamehenge.

I love his confidence. It would be 1,000,000,000x funnier if they had played it, though.
Plus, I was there so... That would have been nice.

I don't see a gamehenge either, but that's just my $.02. I could see a Harpua, with narration covering the last 5 years, but not the full story.

Ok...listening to last night, it's getting better.....

The Reba was promising....weird that the flubs happened in relatively easy sections, and the majority of the insane composed parts were nailed....well. It's Ice was done well....I liked hearing Page's tune....it seems like that might get a workout.....Guelah was executed well, a lil slow, but well....funny Trey still can't remember Hydrogen.....'Paug was decent....any show without Zero is better than one with one, and this is no exception....encore was perfect....

MUCH better.....MUCH......tonight should be a step better yet....

EDIT: I like this trend of non-funk/fewer covers.....I think they got into a huge rut playin that all the time.....it also helps that Trey is awake the entire show now.....

You'll never earn you satin hater's club jacket like that!

the point is that they are not playing gamehenge.
I agree its not going to happen

After some sleep, I definitely have to agree, that and they already played Possum.  Not happening.

I agree.  And I don't mind.  No Gamehenge = fine with me, preferable actually.

Gamehendge is a thing of the past.  The tunes are good, but the narration...I just don't see it happening.

Oh.
Damn your correctness.

Does anyone know if Paul is doing sound?
No, he's not.

And I was just kidding about the Harpua>Gamehenge thing, btw.

Nice backpedal, there, bro.

Does anyone know if Paul is doing sound?
No, he's not.
That does not suprise me as I recall a interview with him saying the road can get old. I think he just wants to chill and make guitars. Bitter sweet as he could really dial the boys in

Tonight:

I: 2001>DWD, Bathtub Gin, Guyute, Sparkle, Maze, Simple>Free, Seven Below, Horse>Silent, Golgi, Slave

II:Gamehendge

Great Scott!!!

The only thing that can generate that sort of power is a bolt of lightning!!!!!   :-D
so that means that at 10:04 pm tonite lightning will strike the mothership

LOL. Not that I think less of anyone for this sort of guessing. That day, it seemed to me that anything was possible. 30 minute jamming seemed unlikely but otherwise, who knew? Besides, making predictions has always been a part of pre-show chatter. It's only natural that it become a large part of the LST tradition.

Lorraine, you are my density.  I mean. . .   destiny.

Wait a minute, Doc. Ah... Are you telling me that you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?

The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?

Doc ya can't just walk into a store and buy plutonium

Look, I don't wanna mess with no reefer addicts, okay?

Another LST tradition?
Tangents & threadjacks.

Inside. Rail fish side. With igbo.
Ready?

Too bad. Its a long time til showtime.

I'd fogotten that we went in early to get on the rail.

whatup RJ.  BRO.   haha.

So wish I could be there...   this weekend was unreal.  I can't believe its over, already....

Ut oh.
Gumbo's first LST.

Ok
F waiting on the floor. I'm old and I know it.

Paug section on Fish side.

Ha! Didn't last an hour.

Time to get this party started again.

Thanks again for keeping us updated RJ, say hello to the folks for us.

so much for no spoilers, hicks called the whole show already  :-o
hick's prediction is about what I was thinking except I was thinking mfmf before 2001 to open

maybe we could all spin night 1 or 2 right at show time and review along the way???

Woah. This could get confusing. Another LST tradition begins?

aiiight, im gonna spin last night as soon as rj drops the balm
Good thinking

hmm this hasnt started yet? has everyone at the coliseum forgotten about daylight savings time?

Showtime
Set 5
Sanity

D'oh!
I wasn't even close.

DAMN, totally didn't see that one at all!!

Are we going backwards in sets tonite or just a call for the longest show ever :-D  NASTY!!!!

Fifth set of the weekend. It's not that complicated.
To paraphrase Janis Joplin, "It's all the same fucking show, man."

Tonight is going to be insane.
I can feel it

Wilson

Sweet zombie jebus

Sanity, crazy opener!
And I bet the place is nutz right now during Wilson.

nutz deep!

Lewd!

was Sanity an update or a call?

I'm keeping a running setlist based on RJ's posts for us and the peeps at the show (via RJ).  His posts are updates.

Foam

I love Foam

qft

My beer foam keeps getting thicker

Can someone handle the setlist updates for a bit, the kid needs a bath.

Thanks

Sucks when life interferes with a proper LST.

March 8th, 2009
Hampton Coliseum Hampton, VA

I: Sanity, Wilson, Foam, Bathtub Gin

I waited 3 days for some gin...

This is shaping up to be quite tasty

thought gin would've been saved for the 2nd set... what's gonna be the big 2nd set jam now?

80s setlist so far!   :-o

The hits just keep coming.

Set two is gunna be  all about 2001

No way.  They're still gonna do Gamehenge, but they'll replace Wilson with The Bruno Song.

Mango > Slave to end I  :-P

The slave poster hung on the deck of the coliseum has yet to be honored~!

Wait, you didn't go to all three? :shakehead:

they better jam this gin the f out

That wouldn't hurt my feelings.

If they don't jam gin life is over

Undermind

While people die from drinking and they slip and die in bathtubs, authorities have yet to attribute any deaths to the brevity of a Bathtub Gin.

/whew

Kinda short gin

did you die?

lulz

Undermind.  First time played by phish right?  Love this song!

Kinda short gin

looks like 11 min roughly

Not exactly short.

No mirth didn't die cause I still want to hear the 2001
Ya 11 min isn't bad guess I was just expecting a little longer

phish.com hasnt added undermind yet
nice work rowjimmy

He's consistently 4-5 minutes ahead, sometimes more.

Interns, lol.

I think the weekend has shown so far that the epic jams aren't coming yet.

Bag

I: Sanity, Wilson, Foam, Bathtub Gin, Undermind, AC/DC Bag

yeah this run feels like a greatest hits run which is good and bad

melt - pretty safe, trey had some low tone jam going for a sec that coulda been dope, but he pulled back to straight noodlin, pretty good though
heavy things -  i'll admit im a fan, sounds good

::wonders if anyone else is playing along or cares::

I feel the same way about SOAM.

I'm not a fan, but last nights Heavy Things was probably the best I've heard so far.

My friend

Awesome, love that tune.

Tits!

:-)
the "lights the fuse" section is one of the best personifications of lyrics to music there is

It would be better if they played some of these tunes rather than just whipping out a best of.

yeah i think thats just gonna be the theme for this weekend

Agreed, but I think (hope) that will come this summer.

I'm hoping they are just laying the groundwork.

Optimism: it's not just used for making glasses anymore.
wait...
Let's just move on, shall we?

And once again, a round of +K's for everyone playing along in this here thread.
x2

A fine paug LST tradition...

Mule

Had a feeling about his getting played tonight, but thought maybe 2nd set.

speakin of sloppy, pyite
page tried his best to save it
....its been five years though

That was a train wreck

But what about the Optimism?

I love laser beams

Had a feeling about his getting played tonight, but thought maybe 2nd set.

I never liked this song in the 2nd set. That's cool they pulled it out in the 1st I guess.

Cities 2nd set opener?

//moist

I'm thinking a 2001 opener, but I can see Cities in there.
I'll go disease>2001

All of these dreams

gumbo.....just glad they played it

got word that he was "such a cool kid"  :-)

Glad to see they busted out My Friend

Really more of a kickdown.

I: Sanity, Wilson, Foam, Bathtub Gin, Undermind, AC/DC Bag, My Friend, My Friend, Scent of a Mule, All of These Dreams, Maze

Uncomfortable silence around here as All of These Dreams sunk in

I don't doubt it that's a wired placement between mule and maze

Don't know it very well and can't even think of what is sounds like right now, so I had no comment.

At the show it was awkward; like farting during sex.

By the way this set is going we should get another 15 song set.

Wouldn't expect anything less after the first two nights.

All of these dreams

now that is some funny shit

True dat.
Lets have a five song second set.
//hopes

How many people actually knew that tune and Undermind that are in attendance.
//me thinks 10

How many 'paugers in attendance tonight?  Them.

That was pretty good

Cactus country song:

I: Sanity, Wilson, Foam, Bathtub Gin, Undermind, AC/DC Bag, My Friend, My Friend, Scent of a Mule, All of These Dreams, Maze, She Still Thinks I Care (per Phish.com)

Another new one curious to hear it

I think that Cactus tune was played on his last tour.

Was hoping the would play Andelman's Yard if they did a Gordo tune.

Me too

"She thinks I still care" I think is the name it's slow

army of one

* George Jones original, sung by Mike  from phish.com

I like army of one I saw page do it the first during vida blue efac

Huh?
My Jezmund Decoder Ring translates this as:
"I like 'Army of One'. I saw Page perform that song for the first time at the Electric Factory Vida Blue show."

Next: Secret Smile ;-)

one of my fav page tunes, very personal
he seems to be on top of his game the most
dare i say, fish.... has been rusty

HATE!

Tube

TUBE!!!
SWEEEEEEET!!!!!
HELL YES!
Woo!!!  .. and mirth, I think you're right.. Fish seemed the "rustiest" to me on Friday night
ASTEROID CRASHED AND NOTHING BUUUUUUUURNED!
"Tuuuuuuuuube!!"

I second that errr 5th or whatever

Expectations, lol.

tube>?

***last night review
ice - i really enjoyed it, the breakdown got real dark and good, whether intentional or because they didnt know what to do is undecided....  :-P

That was a good breakdown either way

yes, real good

I'm a fan.

Ctb

Can I ask:  how was that tube?

About a 7 min tube= weak sauce

Expectations, lol.

Ctb

nice!  page is the man this run

***last night review
beauty of a broken heart - sounds fresh and alive  :-)

About a 7 min tube= weak sauce

I'm all for a long Tube, but they've been playing with some ferocity which compensates.

Free

Can't wait to hear this tube

Wait its really over already

About a 7 min tube= weak sauce

I respectfully disagree.
Seems like they are going through the motions.

Maybe an adjustment period?
Not a bad thing at all but they are not ferocious or on fire.

And so begins a classic 3.0 debate.

diggin the set so far.

esp tube ctb free.  Was the end of Free evil like it's supposed to be?

amen

old Tubes were never long jams...wasn't until much later...the cow funk era...that Tube became a real jam vehicle
I realize that but free was a vehicle and none of the songs have been
any sort of vehicle.
There is no jam in this jamband right now

just put it on repeat.  it's all good.

Really? Listen to Possum from night 1 again.

Possum was not ferocious in the least.
There is no jam in this jamband right now

Rawk, Bitches!
Frankenstein

Page on the guitar-slung clav edgarwinter style

Epic

foreplay to summer sex, boys and girls

Hawt

Really hoping to see this one now this summer.
Glad someone decided to -k me because they can't handle an opinion
that would differ from theirs.

my cock
//suck it

I'm totally smiting you everyday now....

I'd probably be more likely to say that this "jamband" has less jam, but def not none.  I'm kind of glad.  IMO, 2000 and PH got a little jam oriented and everything had to be rocking and on fire with less emphasis on space.  I'm really enjoying the Stash jam from night 1.  It's a bit spaced out and not all up in my face, but still very enjoyable.

End set

nice set on paper. Thanks for the play by play RJ

Woah...
Wild set with a bit of a sag in the middle and suddenly things got a little heated in the LST.

Will Phish pull out of that set one nose dive?
Will Jezmund post a coherent complex sentence on his phones?
Will someone have to suck newplanet's cahk?
Who the hell is voopa, anyway?

These questions and many more may be answered in the exciting conclusion of Hampton '09 Remembered!
