i've disabled the ability to smite on these forums. it was getting childish and out of hand for some people - and, it will prevent the smiting of brand new members to the board, despite the chances that their first posts will be ISOs. this keeps the karmic balance positive around here...
people should be awarded good karma for their actions, but bad karma will manifest itself - we don't need to be doling it out.

There is a plugin for SMF that does this but it is only compatible with certain versions. (and I don't think 1.1.3 is one of them.)
how long does a smite last? permanently? i swore RJ smited me last week, and now, it is no more. What's up with that?

It was a misunderstanding, as I understand it.
I could see a smite war as soon as someone can see who did it. 4 years and 3000 smites later they realize they have no idea why they are doing it.

Do you think people's behavior will change or that they respond better to positive reinforcement (rewards, i.e. +k) or to negative reinforcement (punishment, i.e. -k)? Will people act nicer because they want the applaud, or will there be more confrontations because you can't hide behind the -k you could just give someone. Interesting indeed.
