Star Wars, Avengers, blah blah blah.

This is the movie I can't wait to see this year. Written/directed by George Miller himself.

Yup, I saw this trailer over the weekend in the theaters, it looks fucking sick.

I'm glad two of us are into this. I've got my ticket for friday night.

So of course I re-watched the original trilogy in preparation. Which I recommend to all.

And wrote up a thing on it here:

it is utterly insane.

in short, to quote myself from the above:

"Watching George Miller's new apocalyptic vision, Mad Max: Fury Road, is like having your head stapled to the side of a fireworks factory strapped to a rocket on top of a tanker truck launched at a zombie/punk pyromaniacs convention in the middle of the desert."

Movie is not stop from beginning to end

blatboom

the commercial hype machine is a little much  seeing the tv commercials declaring it the best action movie ever made, lol.
looks very slick though visually, and i love me sum Charlize for sure.

i guess it's sort of a reboot, in that the last one was 30 years ago, but really it's just a straight up sequel. it's yet another of Max's adventures, and takes place after that last movie. best analogy would be to James Bond when a new actor steps in.

Shit was pretty cool.
Edge of your seat, popcorn movie at the worst.
A significant entrant to the action pantheon for sure.

Fine review. Interesting that you mention some little CGI flourishes etc. that you found bothersome. I think I just found the prevailing realness of the production to be too refreshing and engrossing to take much issue with any digital assistance that might have been layered on. The film's tangibility was all the more impressive coming after a slew of trailers for this summer's assorted computer-generated action tentpoles. That San Andreas disaster porn nonsense? Good lord.

compared to what's normally out there these days, no, the CGI wasn't bothersome. i loved the amount of actual stunts and explosions and car mayhem.

but i was trying to figure out why i find The Road Warrior more compelling, despite the massive scale of Fury Road, and part of it was the kind of cartoonish vibe the CGI created out of all the real stuff they filmed. which is what Miller was going for, surely. it just felt a little strange to me. maybe when i see it again i won't mind so much...

I also hadn't picked up on the orange/turquoise motif until you pointed it out, now of course I see it in every still. So thanks a lot!
