1st set > expectations > 2nd set

Maze was cool, though. Probably get a meatier 2nd set tomorrow. Too bad it's up against game 7.

Shoutout to the home viewers or commentary on the state of the band?

I know this is weird, but there was some sort of run or something Trey did in that Ocelot that was awesome.

Bet everyone was psyched to hear ginseng. Love that song.

Gin sounded pretty cool. Trey was playing fast, lots of notes, and mike and fish were super locked in. Seemed very energetic, although pretty standard in the grand scheme of things. Light up had a really cool start to the jam, some good layering going on in there. Will def re-listen to that.

So many weird repeats in the 2nd set from this tour. Carini again? Sand jam started off cool and kinda quiet but turned standard. Nice little jam in DWD but nothing mindblowing popped out to my ears, other than some sweet cowbell from Fish.

Maze had pretty awesome pay-jorgan. Meatstick again?  :| Antelope again? So soon?

Didn't really like the 2nd set, but the boys seemed pretty pumped. Also got a call from WTU at setbreak and he said the crowd was REALLY wild. The south'd! Made me start to reconsider my decision to not go to charlotte even more. Oh and WTU seemed to really enjoy that first set.... like a lot.... he was all  :wtu:

Overall, I think if the energy stays high tomorrow night, we're in for a better show.

Pretty psyched to see at least 2-3 shows below the mason/dixon line... should be fun...

I can guarantee, that game 7 will be much better then the Phish show. Look at the set from 3 days ago and......bingo!! that will be tomorrow. Tomorrows game is going to be incredible. No more second chances. Winner takes all

Caught the second set at a webcast at a bar, I had fun.

Seriously though, DWD> Maze was a highlight.  The rest was alright.  I agree, a lot of weird repeats was really surprised to see Meatstick again in particular.

Highlight had to be Light Up or Leave Me Alone.

Not really a big fan of Carini but the Sand DWD Maze combo packed a punch.  It's easier to overlook all the repeats and killed jams when you're on the couch having only forked over $15, rather than having travelled really far and spent a ton of cash.

I thought Bathtub Gin was a bizarre mix of energy and slop.

Does a show have to have mega bust outs to considered good?

I had a great time watching from the couch. The band looked happy and subsequently made me happy. Well-played too, so no real complaints from me. Go ahead, abuse me now for liking Phish.

Meh.  That was below average to me.  I saw some positive things, but overall I felt like they defaulted to their 3.0 fall backs for the show.  I did really like the DWD jam and Maze as well.

He's not wrong about the good parts of the show. The Light Up was, indeed, amazing. The Maze was worthy of it's 2nd set placement. The second half of the 2nd set was weak sauce, and he said so. The Quinn was solid.

I love this couple of sentences regarding Possum.

QuoteIf I see someone with a Possum sign, I will tackle them. Speaking of Possum, it wouldn't be 2011 if we didn't get another version. Preceeded by a MOMA Dance that found Trey stretching his legs on the solo a little, we had yet another Possum. This song must die. Why? There are two theories. Holdsworth needs the royalty checks or there's some inside joke.

No, but only six songs that haven't already been played in the last week or so makes it seem like they were kind of going through the motions for a big chunk of the show.

Wow, i can't believe all the meh reviews. Y'all need to get over the fact that they are going to repeats ton of songs, that's just the way it is this tour. Can't let it take away from the quality of a show.

Last night was way better than both MPPs, Camden and Mansfield imo.

Light Up or Leave me alone, Gin, Sand, DWD and Maze were great. I can't wait to listen back to that Light Up or Leave Me Alone, Trey was really going off.

The Alpharetta crowd is bonkers. The south knows how to party!

LUOLMA was really nice, great fiery playing from Trey. Sand -> DWD was all great as well. And the Hair Metal licks from Trey in Maze were really fun to watch and hear.

And the little Page interlude between Bug -> ADITL was beautiful.

Calling that Ocelot "sneaky good" is on the money. It was a dope rendition.

I really enjoyed the whole first set quite a bit really. Energy going into the Gin jam was nice and bouncy, felt like something was really gonna happen. Felt like they could have kept going after they peaked it but were just happy that they hit a nice peak and called it good.

Gotta echo everyone else on the Sand>DWD>Maze enjoyment, although obv I felt Maze could've come about 10 minutes later. If they cut out Carini and Meatstick and expanded a smidge on a couple other tunes (2001 perhaps)  that set would have been a lot better.

2001 is getting played just as much as Possum, but you don't hear anyone complaining. Love that tune. I just hope when I see it later this summer its an 8 min + version rather than a 5er. Eh, at this rate I'm gonna see it like 4 times so I'm sure one of them will be a heater.

Psyched for tonight! Couch terr party at my crib with Hicks, Caravan and Burmesepython.  :rawk:

I really agree with your assessment of this show. I was pretty much feeling the same thing.
I honestly felt pretty let down when the opened Set II with Carini, this should NOT happen. I should be all  :wtu: for a Carini. Also, the launching into Meatstick really had me down. I honesly can't believe I'm saying that.
The positives now: I really didn't hear what you're talking about with the Ocelot, but I'll re-listen. The Gingseng was nice! Also, I really dug the Gin (even though I thought it was too soon yet again) it made up for that because it jammed. Light up made me smile for sure, and the jam was again pretty nice. Totally ready for SetII...

I disagree with the repeats not taking away from shows for sure. It takes a lot away for me to hear the same thing night in, and night out. It's part of the reason I don't want to go see a lot of other shows. IMO the ability to create, or explore is severely dampened by the playing the same material over and over. It's cheap, and it's a cop-out.  I think it would be even worse for me if I was on tour (very jealous of you) and hearing more shows than I'm going to be able to see this summer.
COMPLETELY agree about the Gin, and the Light up though. I'm sure it was fun partying in Alpharetta, those GA kids are crazzzzy.
Have an awesome time, man. Again, I'm not trying to kill your vibe at all, and I'm not trying to hate too much, but the song repeats get me all sorts of down. I'm trying to get over it ;)

For those of you that have listened to or been to every show this tour...is there an improvement in the "repeater" songs? I'm just wondering if maybe they have chosen to focus in on a few specific songs to play while they become comfortable with playing together again and once they master this small number of songs they will reintroduce others into the line up.

I attest to the statement. Also, asides from the tunes already mentioned, dig the Dinner and a Movie opener.

Very cool but what's up with it being so short (going off the tracking of Phish.com)?

had a blast last night.  pit tickets, waited in line, did the run, had the rail right in front of trey.  it was great to watch him closely all night long.  the jams in kill devil (yes, i know), light up, and maze really stood out.  page was about to cut off his solo in maze and trey egged him on to go longer, then he really started rocking it, which kicked the entire tune up a notch.  fun times.

i thought they played it a little safe just because of the webcast.  and yes, there were repeats, but you gotta get over it.

there were a ton of song signs and the band really seemed to look over and read each one.  i really got the impression that trey was considering each and every one.  at the end of the set you could see each member scanning and reading each sign.  trey even commented on the prep school hippie sign...he seemed impressed w/ that one.

gearing up for night two right now!

On Quinn now.

I'd say you can condense this show down to

Dinner & a Movie
Bathtub Gin
Light up and Leave Me Alone
DWD ->
Maze
Quinn.

Boom.  3.0 mix tape'd

One thing I can definitely say is that this venue looks absolutely sick. Regardless of the repeats, I would have loved the show (I always do even if the show completely blows ie. Alipne '09) Gonna have to rage this place at some point with the ole' conductor.

The DWD > Maze is so fucking on point it's not even funny. I listened like three times back to back yesterday, it put a huge smile on my face.

Edit: this ocelot bores me to tears. How could they legitimately think that was the best choice for the vimeo?

I really liked the majority of this show upon listening back tonight.

High energy Gins (10:10-10:30 is great!), Light Up, and DWD > Maze.
